This is a list of companies who have withdrawn their advertising from the anti-woke channel known as GB News, but doesn’t actually seem to give any actual news.

There is footage of one of the female presenter giving someone the finger on air! And myriad errors and technical failures.

It is so heartening to know that there has been sufficient pressure from people who are appalled at the divisive character of the station.

Populism isn’t so popular after all.

25Avalon Fri 18-Jun-21 18:05:23

And it’s the obsessed snowflakes who are divisive.

They may give examples of “obsessed snowflakes who are trying to see offence in everything” but they don’t tell us they are obsessed snowflakes. You use the rationale to see for yourself.

Eh?

But it's called 'Woke Watch'. Isn't that a dirty great clue as to how they expect their viewers to think?

You think it's not an invitation to have a good old chunter about those daft people with their strange PC views (as 'woke' seems to be the new 'PC') ?

What on earth are you trying to defend, Avalon?

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Jun-21 18:24:43

Avalon sorry, I get it now.
But surely calling the slot "Woke Watch" is flagging it up a bit?
It's not exactly balanced is it?

Who are they dividing and how are they doing it?

MerylStreep Fri 18-Jun-21 18:26:48

It was good to see Yasmin Alibhai- Brown adding to the conversation in the studio.

25Avalon Fri 18-Jun-21 18:27:20

By cancelling everything they don’t agree with. And if you don’t agree you are branded racist. No rationale at all.

MerylStreep Fri 18-Jun-21 18:28:25

Maggi Oliver on now.

That does indeed sound promising

Quote from The Independent “ if GB News manages to establish a reputation for fair-minded, centre right reportage and that pulls in prosperous viewers, then they will be an attractive market that advertisers can’t ignore”. Quite so.

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Jun-21 18:43:26

I think that the operative word there is if
I rather think that that quote may have been taken out of context

What have they cancelled so far?

muffinthemoo Fri 18-Jun-21 19:18:14

Fanny the word ‘if’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that quote

25Avalon Fri 18-Jun-21 20:35:43

Lectures for students for one.

25Avalon Fri 18-Jun-21 21:06:35

I think MaisieD you are being disingenuous.

Corisanda Fri 18-Jun-21 21:32:11

I pretty much gave up watching the news because of the obvious bias and am enjoying GB News. As for the list of companies who have decided to withdraw advertising, I shall reciprocate and won't spend my money on any of their products.

That’s fine, it’s your right and I sure they’ll be very sad to lose your custom.

Maybe. But I genuinely would like to know what 'woke' people have cancelled. How can you state that they cancel things and not be able to give any examples?

I 'm sure they won't miss my custom at all but they may not be quite so happy if enough people stop buying their products. I know at least a couple of other people who will be doing the same.

Chestnut Fri 18-Jun-21 23:20:44

Corisanda - read my earlier post with a reply from Octopus. I think these companies are just being cautious because this is a new and unknown channel and they intend to wait and see before advertising.

Chestnut Fri 18-Jun-21 23:30:56

There is another thread on using the term birthing people which is exactly the sort of thing which might be discussed on Woke Watch!

... if people have time on their hands and want to get het up about something. Maybe they should just buy a punch bag.

Presumably because the bias is in line with your own thinking.

But that's a gross exaggeration of what's happening anywhere.
