In an explosive interview with the Observer, Bercow says he regards today’s Conservative party as “reactionary, populist, nationalistic and sometimes even xenophobic”.

How can well educated middle-class people accept this? If they do, then, what can I say, they are part and parcel of this.

Why would what John Bercow says carry any weight with what I accept?

Labour chums/colleagues/family members in this neck of the woods are not happy to see Mr Bercow in the Labour Party. He's not going to be much of an asset .He'll be putting himself forward as a candidate for leader next time he gets the chance.

What a vile, nasty thread this is. Those of you claiming that the recent by election was due to 'nimbyism' have got it wrong, or believed the nonsense you have been told. The revolt was due to proposed changes to the Planning Regulations which put simply, means that the developers have more heft than local democracy such as Neighbourhood Plans. You know, developers, those people who make big generous donations to the Tory Party. If this doesn't concern you, wake up. As to Bercow, a marmite character I admit, but it is funny isn't it how anyone who stands up and says what many people think ie that Johnson is a liar, is unfit for office, has no concern for anyone other than himself, is immediately ripped apart. Bercow witnessed Johnson, he knows better than most.

It does seem to be the people who know Johnson better than most who have the lowest opinion of him, although not all are prepared to speak out for fear it would harm their career prospects.

The biggest Johnson fans seem to have never met him, but swallow his carefully manufactured image as a jolly buffoon.

GillT57 I agree NIMBYism rarely exist now. In my area almost every village has accepted up to 500 houses being added to its stock without murmur. However we do worry about building in the Green Belt and AONB. Land is put in these categorys to protect the countryside from development.

In our village we objected to a development whose access roads ran along 2 sides of the village school putting children walking to school at risk.

I do believe the strong reaction and 'excuses' re Amersham and now JB- is due to many Johnson supporters, and Brexiters- do know that things are turning, and turning fast.

Over the past 5 or so years I probably had as many dealing with members of the. Conservative party as I did Labour and Lib Dem’s. Several of whom have now left the party, mainly out of disgust with the people now leading it. It all started with speaking with a group of people who I assumed represented Labour only to realise they were Conservatives. I feel so sorry for people like Dominic Grieve who are good decent people who are appalled at what is happening to their party. Those I met that had had dealing with Johnson loathed him.

I so wish Dominic Grieve would join the Lib Dems. Yes, huge respect for him.

He will, no doubt believe in the Conservative approach he has always believed in but Johnson's is not that approach. I agree that he is a decent and honest person; there are those people in all parties.

What I keep thinking at the moment is that we must stop seeing Johnson as a buffoon. Everything he does is deliberate and he should answer for it all.

Reds in the bed, wife Sally has longtime been a Labour campaigner and candidate at several elections. With no prospects with the Tories Bercow decided to jump ship, I don’t see any direction changes for either party he likely won’t get elected at the next election.
It’s happened before, Alan Howarth did it and became a minister in the Blair government

I was just listening to a history podcast about Napoleon that said he followed patterns set by other successful leaders ( as usual I didn’t listen to it properly and need to listen again). I wonder if Johnson is following some sort of pattern? I’m sure Cummings studies different strategies.

Personally I could not careless he was an ineffective little man with a huge ego…. So in my opinion anybody is welcome to him.please form an orderly queue,,,,, no fights…?
