Plimsolls, cheap ugg boots, cheap school uniform, falling out the shower, my oh my what can we say to get deletion
Well the thing is if anyone wants to say anything normally unheard off come along to this thread
All welcome

I went to Shoezone the other day.
I bought my DGD some Vans and my DGS some plimsolls.
Then I went to Primark and bought them both onesies.

School uniform is so expensive nowadays.

It is interesting to read of the everyday minutiae of the everyday life of people.

Historically there is much of battles, treaties, and so on, but not so much of everyday things.

For example, what people ate on some particular day in the 1800s. Just generalisations often. Not about going shopping and what they bought and for how much.

Such as with the early co-op shops, how often did people go in to buy something.

I saw something on television some time ago. An elderly lady used to go to the corner shop to get some item about four or five times each day. The shopkeeper suggested she made a list and he could put it for her all at once.

But he did not seem to realise that maybe that was what she did all day, have a walk to the shop and get something several times rather than just go once and then sit around all day with nothing to do. And maybe she would not be able to carry it all at once.

Bluebelle mentioned plimsolls.

I remembered Mr Plimsoll and the Plimsoll Line.

I read about Mr Plimsoll.

The article mentioned the television drama The Onedin Line.

I found it on YouTube.

I have been watching Episode 1 of the first series.

It is good.

Oh Chewbacca now you are really pushing the boat out
If this doesn’t get deleted then they ve all gone home and we really can say anything we want
Perhaps they are giving us one thread where we can be adults

nanna8 Tue 29-Jun-21 06:03:27

Actually talking about another thread has always been an absolute no no.

So I will start.

I think that the news and politics thread are being weighted which is why they are not going in some cases to the head of the active thread when you post.

I tried to mitigate it by bumping them up to the top, but the bumps got zapped???, because it would annoy people??

In our exchange of emails with GN HQ I asked about the problem, but they simply didn’t reply.

Now two theories is that they are either clueless or haven’t the time or money to fix it or are weighting the topic, because people moan about it a lot. But then they would have to weight the games as well as I reckon that has been moaned about for years.

But my money is on weighting.n

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jun-21 07:35:07

Actually as you were?. This didn’t go to the top either.

So they are either clueless or haven’t time or money to fix the issue.

BlueBelle Tue 29-Jun-21 07:39:08

…or it’s all done on purpose Whitewave
Do you remember the song Spam spam spam let’s sing onesies onesies onesies, ok perhaps not, doesn’t have the same ring to it does it ?

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Jun-21 07:39:54

Yes, it's definitely clueless and no money.
I don't even think that they know much about the site.
On my 'hidden threads' thread the management posted a couple of comments which honestly didn't make sense.
I noted that yesterday one of them posted something that completely missed the point.
I've been saying that they are useless for months

Mollygo Tue 29-Jun-21 07:41:44

I’m not reporting this post, but this whole thread. Why are you allowing it to stay? What purpose does it serve in not removing it. I accept that the simplest way to get rid of it would be for posters simply not to post and let it sink into oblivion, but ignoring so many requests for it to be removed seems rather childish, or even disrespectful. I am trying a simple, polite request.
Please remove the thread.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jun-21 07:48:49

Well on the Martha Hancock thread one poster said that there are no such thing as free newspapers.

We get them on our public transport both bus and train and we get a free newspaper in Waitrose.

I live in the south, do others get free newspapers where they live?

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Jun-21 07:51:25

We have the free Metro on buses.
Not sure if they are available now, they may have stopped doing it due to Covid.

Charleygirl5 Tue 29-Jun-21 07:52:12

Perhaps if I say I do not like Games threads and there are too many that may get this deleted as I am discussing different threads.

What else is newsworthy? I have had a shower and washed my hair all in preparation for Wimbledon and Wembley this evening.

I have had enough of this thread and I will now be sinking into oblivion, goodbye.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 29-Jun-21 07:53:01

Oh yes covid - so easy to forget!!

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Jun-21 07:53:53

This thread should currently be at the top of the active list, but isn't.
It's definitely not working as it should / did

Lucca Tue 29-Jun-21 07:55:35

You only get a free newspaper in waitrose if you spend £10 dont you ?

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Jun-21 07:57:45

Whitewavemark2

Oh yes covid - so easy to forget!!

Funnily enough, I have actually started to 'forget' about it.
For instance, I was musing on the small number of people who will be at the unveiling of the Diana statue.

The Covid rules had completely slipped my mind for several minutes.

Still on the royal theme, my Royal Chat thread rarely moves from the bottom of the active list, regardless of folk (usually me) posting on it

FannyCornforth Tue 29-Jun-21 08:59:09

Ooh! The Royal Chat thread is now at the top! How exciting!

Chewbacca Tue 29-Jun-21 08:59:25

No newspapers in railways or Waitrose around here. No magazines in the hairdressers either now. I used to like flicking through a magazine that I'd never consider buying whilst waiting for my haircut. Happy days.

annsixty Tue 29-Jun-21 09:31:10

We get a free newspaper through our door each week, it is of local news but is so dire it goes in the recycle bin unread.
It was only interesting when it was used to advertise local houses for sale.
Then, my nosy side would come out to check house prices.

I think we should speculate on GN members no longer posting and wonder why they have stopped.
Apologies if this has already been suggested, I CBA to go through the thread.

Elegran Tue 29-Jun-21 09:44:05

"no such thing as free newspapers. " It costs money to edit, print and distribute a "free" newspaper. That money has to come from somewhere; no-one is so philanthropic that they can take on all that cost. So they are funded by advertising - which itself is funded by the profits from whatever you buy as a result of seeing the ad in the "free" paper you have picked up, or by donations by those who want their activities or opinions to be publicised or their fame increased or their representatives voted into power. The bottom line is that the community (you and I) foot the bill.

ElderlyPerson Tue 29-Jun-21 09:49:04

Whether the thread stays or goes, here is a memorable video that you may perhaps always joyfully remember.

I think they meant the ones in a rack which you can read whilst you're having a coffee then put back..
They aren't there any more because other people may have touched them shock
I think that's right, although I got completely muddled on that thread myself. I blame Andy Murray ???
Was his opponent Portuguese?
Oh beg his pardon, he's Georgian.

Lucca

Why don't they offer me one if I spend more than that in a home delivery?
I'm being swindled

GrannyGravy13 Tue 29-Jun-21 09:58:40

Callistemon I get the free Waitrose in-house newspaper/magazine with my deliveries.
