You’ll get zapped as your bump irritates people and stops the flow of conversation - allegedly ?

Callistemon I get the free Waitrose in-house newspaper/magazine with my deliveries.
Yes, I could have that one if I request it, Grannygravy
But where's my weekly dose of The Sun?
(Actually I wouldn't even line the food waste bin with it!)

Which you pay for in the long term, by increasing Waitrose's profits. If they lowered their prices a bit, they wouldn't be able to afford to produce a free newspaper (which I've not read, as I don't use Waitrose, but I am willing to bet has a lot in it about their products and their philanthropic gestures.)
This thread has become a bit of a gem
I hope that it doesn't get taken down!
(There, it's positively done for now...)
But Elegran, I save so much by shopping at Waitrose - my bill states that I've saved as much as £35 sometimes!!
This is an interesting website.

They do a weekly free newsletter.
Lots of product advertising in it, but always a good article about some topic related to Jane Austen and her work.
The videos of the costumed events held pre-pandemic are wonderful, including dancing.

I've found it highly amusing.
I do know a word that might get the thread pulled, though it was a few years ago now that I had a very strict message from the mods telling me off for mentioning it. Different mods now might not worry about it.
But I'm not going to say it because I don't particularly want this thread removed now
About 70 years ago I used to go to square dancing, weekly , at the local football club social hall.
It was great fun for us teenagers but we were a bit too lively for the more mature regulars and we would get told off for not taking it seriously enough.
I can tell you one wrong step and we were out.
annsixty we'd better watch our steps!
I used to go to the Young Farmers' dances but I never met a Young Farmer I liked enough to become a Farmer's Wife.
Ooh, Maizie, what is the word?
Can you give us some clues?
We can play charades!

Thank you for that link.
My dad is an Austen fanatic.
I always try to buy him Jane related presents.
These include a JA 'action doll' (she comes equipped with a quill); a JA finger puppet; and a version of Pride & Prejudice reenacted by real guinea pigs in bonnets.
For father's day I bought him a plant pot in the shape of Jane's head.
Maizie we played 'Dish the Dirt' earlier, so how about a round of 'Spill the Beans'?
I am thinking that this thread is like a House of Commons adjournment debate before a general election where MPs can talk about any topic they ;like.
So if this thread goes or we need a restart we could have a thread entitled
That this thread do now adjourn
EP wow! It really is a good website!
Lots of future presents for the old man!
EP that often happens with long running threads, people just start chatting and having a laugh.
It's quite magical.
To use one of your words, serendipitous.
In fact, that's why I started the Royal Chat thread, but it always seems to go one way (ahem)
Well I'm the kiss of death to any thread, mix up the RF with a choice of footwear and either they will zap it or people will stop posting.
But to be honest this thread is too convivial, no one to call a bully.
Isnt that a big reason threads get pulled?
Callistemon I must be shopping in the wrong supermarket. I was only told I had saved £1 on my last order. Perhaps they should raise their prics so that they can tell me I have saved more?
Maizie Is that the Billygoats Gruff word? I have seen it used unchallenged recently, I think they have eased off on deleting that one. I's meaning seems to have slipped a bit lately, too. It is now being used to mean people who disagree rather vehemently in all honesty, as well as those who deliberately set out be spiteful, or do start a fight by knowing luring people into lasing out at each other.
Well I think that you're all wrong and we've been infiltrated by the KGB....conspiracy theory!! ?

FannyCornforth @ 09.25 Goodness me, I hadn't heard about that incident, it sounds awful. Sorry to hear you were involved; not a nice experience for you.
Re; the MN night time troll
It was quite a strange thing really.
Luckily it wasn't anything personal.
It was last Spring, and I was in loads of pain due to my new disability, and was usually awake all night, and I went on MN a lot.
Anyway, this troll posted literally hundreds of posts over a period of weeks.
Some nights they would post dozens and dozens in just a few hours.
Most were weirdly harmless, but they followed a certain pattern and had motifs that I was very adept at picking up. But some were a bit pervy (about clothes).
They constantly changed names (you can do this on MN).
I would alert one of the Night Watch (volunteer mods - one in particular works tirelessly) and she would hide the threads.
But the really sinister thing was, they would often (every night) pretend to be an abused woman; or a woman with a very sick child; and even abused children.
They would ask for 'hand holds' etc and then tell their tale of woe.
So many people (women) got sucked in, and they would post the longest and most caring posts, even pming the troll and offering RL help.
It was really awful.
And however often MN tried to get rid of them (typically on a daily basis) they would come back.
Noone seemed to understand how they were doing it.
The last thing I heard, the police had been brought in.
The troll must have got a thrill through controlling women. In fact one of their most popular personas was an abused and controlled woman
Some very sick people about.
On a lighter note does anyone else think that GNHQ staff went on a jolly and haven't been allowed back into the country?
It is the only thing I can imagine.
