I wish the media would leave this lady alone. Over the weekend she has been described as a private person and suffering from Long Covid after picking up the virus when her husband had it. After his revelations to her that his affair was about to be made public, her world must have been turned on its head. She has 3 children to care and support as well. It must be awful for her leaving her house to have cameras thrust in her face hoping to catch some emotion from the poor woman. Leave her be. Go and pester the ones responsible.

I’m not sure you quite understand. Re Waitrose

Newspapers are on sale. As a customer spending more than £10 I am entitled to a free newspaper from which I take from the newspaper stand. I can take it home to read.

So unless you think all newspapers should be banned I think that you will agree that the free Waitrose newspaper is acceptable.

Sorry I should have made myself clear but I thought most people have a Waitrose near them - I was obviously wrong.

Ellianne Tue 29-Jun-21 08:59:11

Does WWM2 not mean the free paper in Waitrose you pick from the stand with your coffee after shopping? No one else has touched it.
At my rather posh, private dentist in London the chosen free papers in the waiting room might have surprised some!

Shropshirelass Tue 29-Jun-21 08:55:42

I agree 100%. Private life is just that and should be respected. Press are appalling!

Chewbacca Tue 29-Jun-21 08:53:51

In the 2 Waitrose stores nearest to me, they've not had free newspapers since April 2020 and I'm astonished that other branches do have them. Same for the West Coast railway stations too. But, even if they were available, I wouldn't pick it up.

lemongrove Tue 29-Jun-21 08:49:41

A local coffee shop used to have them for customers, but not since Covid.

lemongrove Tue 29-Jun-21 08:48:12

During this last year? Not very responsible of Waitrose, when newspapers are picked up and looked at by so many hands.

As we know there are no free papers laying around. You have to make the decision to buy one or look on line.

Oh but there are free papers.

Get one in Waitrose with a cup of coffee.

Get them on public transport etc.

I expect there are others as well.

Actually most offices I know are still working from home, meetings held via zoom etc, hope that helps sandycat.

BlueBelle Tue 29-Jun-21 05:38:38

Blimey sandycat what a ridiculous post
so because the couple have known this lady for 20 + years it’s all ok
What planet are you living on ?

MawBe Tue 29-Jun-21 03:06:03

Pretty irrelevant Sandycat !

Sandycat Tue 29-Jun-21 00:33:30

I don’t believe anyone who works in an office environment is sitting there with a mask on all day. Bit difficult to speak to people on the phone for instance with a mask on and avoiding each other as you are doing things around the office must be impossible.

Galaxy Mon 28-Jun-21 23:55:12

Although of course there was the hand on arse exemption for us all.

Galaxy Mon 28-Jun-21 23:51:30

Do you mean in the way people in workplaces have been asked to maintain social distance across the country.

Sandycat Mon 28-Jun-21 23:23:31

How on earth do you expect him to be socially distanced from her when she is his appointed aide and works with him and travels with him to visits around the country?

Chewbacca Mon 28-Jun-21 23:08:40

Correct Lucca, sandycat has missed the point entirely.

Lucca Mon 28-Jun-21 23:03:16

In case you hadn’t noticed he was Secretary of State for health, gave us instructions about social distancing and broke those rules. It’s not all about his silly affair.

Callistemon Mon 28-Jun-21 23:01:51

He’s a man isn’t he, so why so shocked at his infidelity

I assume you're joking, sandycat

but he has known this woman since uni, in fact his wife has too
Even worse.

Sandycat Mon 28-Jun-21 22:59:20

Wow I’m just so amazed at the hatred towards Hancock over this. He’s a man isn’t he, so why so shocked at his infidelity. Okay you don’t like the man politically but he has known this woman since uni, in fact his wife has too. Willing to bet she’s suspected for a very long time, would account for her still going out as normal.

Callistemon Mon 28-Jun-21 22:58:54

I read what I thought should be there and not what was in fact there.

That'll larn me not to multi-task!

Kali2 Mon 28-Jun-21 22:56:50

No I didn't- Maw picked up on it and I have said it was an error, of course.

Our local garage has all the papers out of the shop with clear covers- so I always look at the First page and headlines currently- and also rely on FB and other internet sites for access to access to main articles from a variety of newspapers.

Callistemon Mon 28-Jun-21 22:39:42

Kali2

I have read many things I don't disagree with- to better understand the mindset and context. Mein Kampf when I was young, as an example.

I also did a course recently on the Press, and the issues some raise, and the reasons and context behind. This did not make me complicit. But you know that... you know exactly what I mean.

No, sorry, I don't understand that.
I had one eye on the tennis when I replied earlier.

I don't think you meant to say that, did you, Kali2?

Chewbacca Mon 28-Jun-21 22:33:20

confused

Kali2 Mon 28-Jun-21 22:20:57

this is currently the same all over the UK - as we all know, not just in your neck of the woods.

Chewbacca Mon 28-Jun-21 21:08:54
