During the recent Scottish election Galloway re-tweeted a false, photoshopped anti-Semitic tweet that he said was from Janey Godley's twitter account, trying to make out that SNP supporters were anti-Semitic. He took it down after a few hours and "apologised" . "Sorry if you were offended" kind of thing.

He will stir s*** for any reason at all, just to get his name in the news.

Aye good luck getting into it with Janey Godley, she’s not been seen crawling about licking feet in a cat costume

What exactly could this government ( or any government) do
About Gaza? Even the US can’t do anything.
Should the Labour Party ( again, or any Party) become anti-Semitic just to garner Muslim votes? Corbyn did, of course, although it didn’t do him any good!
Batley and Spen have see-sawed between political parties for years, so it wouldn’t be totally ‘off the wall’ for the Conservatives to win it back. The White British population of the constituency far outnumbers any ethnic group there.

Which leaves a huge section of the community unrepresented and resentful MaizieD but I suppose it's their own fault for imagining there might be someone or some party in British politics that would stand up for the oppressed and for human rights. And then people wonder why someone is radicalised!

MaizieD the problem is that Starmer may not be anti-Muslim but appears to be, by his appointments, pro Israel. The result is that he, and therefore the party, is not trusted. The issue of radical Muslims wanting LGBT education stopped involves only a small percentage of the community, some of whom are reactionary and will not vote because they abhor the system. A far larger number watch the events happening in Gaza and want somehing done.

Well, letting the tories in isn't going to to get anything done about Gaza, is it? They can't give a monkey's.

Galloway won't win, so that isn't going to help, either.

The whole business of expecting a whole community to vote for a particular party is awful. I am angry that the subject of the teacher who was suspended from the school in Batley and who is afraid to go back has not been discussed.

I'm not surprised at your feelings griselda but I imagine people are sticking to the topic.

It's quite simple though isn't it? Starmer could bring all the Muslim community back to Labour if he made one speech supporting Palestine and condemning Israeli oppression. But he won't will he? So whose fault is it if the seat turns Tory? I don't think it is Galloway's.

It's ironic, isn't it, that a possible cause of Cox's murder was her support for the local muslim community.

Galloway is stirring the excrement, trisher. Labour hasn't suddenly turned anti-muslim.

Namsnanny Tue 29-Jun-21 11:10:39

Isnt that just appeasement trisher?

I think a few Muslim protesters are incensed about the LGBT teachings but certainly not all parents.

If you're referring to the widely publicised incident it was a 'few Muslim protestors' from Birmingham (which is not really anywhere near Batley & Spen) It's a very dirty campaign.

As for not many of them actively wanting a conservative, winterwhite, that's what they'll get if they vote for Galloway in any significant number.

winterwhite Tue 29-Jun-21 09:58:11

It would be surprising if many of them actively want a Conservative.

Galloway can’t be blamed for everything ( much as I don’t like him.)

Perhaps they want a change from Labour this time.

So what is the Conservative Party offering them? Didn’t even Baroness Vardey and the new health Secretary question the Conservative Parties attitude towards Muslims?

Yes, they have. It's Galloway stirring up sh*t.

so what does the Muslim community want
I thought the article made it very clear what they want. They don’t ( and won’t ) be taken for granted.
This is yet another wake up call for the Labour Party. The trouble is they won’t / can’t understand what has changed.

Actually, the reason they object to Kim Leadbetter is because she refused to condemn LGBT teaching. I think you should check your facts MerylStreep. This is the politics of division and how it works in practice.

Chris Williamson is campaigning for Galloway. As if I didn’t despise him enough.

Have you seen this?
Since when is George Galloway entitled to call himself “Honourable” ?
It’s not the epithet that springs to my mind.

I think the Muslim community made up their minds some time ago about the Labour Party her without the help of fake leaflets. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/batley-spen-byelection-kim-leadbeater-george-galloway-b1869052.html

So what does the Muslim community want? How does it think it would benefit from a Conservative MP, whom it will vote for by default.

The people who have attacked Kim Leadbetter are extreme socially conservative Muslims. In any other context, Labour opponents would be criticising them for being proto-terrorists and not fitting in with British values.

As if it was not bad enough having two far right candidates, including one from the group that Jo Cox's murderer belonged to, we also see the ghastly George Galloway laughing as thugs from out of the constituency attacked the Labour Party candidate and her supporters, and now fake leaflets aiming to alienated local Muslims from the Labour Party. This looks like being one of the dirtiest elections we have ever seen.
