The public should have a debate on the monarchy Billboards

Grany It looks to me as though a debate about the monarchy is taking pace - on GN anyway.

A debate about the monarchy takes place every single day on social and other forms of media.

So if we got rid of the monachy what would happen to all the royal buildings would Windsor Castle become an office block?, Buckingham Palace a hotel.? Kensington Palace a refugee center? Would the head of state live in an ex royal residence? I dont think the monachy will be abolished not in my lifetime anyway.

At the risk of being derided, I do want to ask two questions.

Which country already has an elected head of state? I’d like to know so I can find out how their system works.

Why do we need a head of state? Do we really need one?

There have been endless programmes about the Queen and all the things she does Grany. You must not have been paying attention.

I think that many of them do work harder than you think doing charity work etc and things which give the U.K. some good international standing. Princess Anne does a lot of charity work and Edward is taking over the Duke of Ed Awards scheme.
I am sure mr Google could give you a better idea.
Much of the Royal estates actually make money - the Duchy of Cornwall pays for Charles and his family and it gives a lot of employment. I watched a TV programme and was pleasantly surprised at what they do - land husbandry too.

What has the Queen done for you nothing her job is to do what the PM asks she is on governmentside not the for the people. When do you hear from her once a year in a speech written for her read from an autocue.

Her and her family waited on hand and foot and the finest chefs. They have various houses, modes of transport royal train helicopters, cars, at their disposal plenty of time to spare, spending public money every day of every week costing a fortune. The train has private quarters, an ordinary train, not enough leg room, suppose 1st class same. .

Even the RF must think how long are people going to put up with this farce. Remember they don't work hard Charles been waiting all his life to be a king now past 70 I think he looked embarrassed when queen put in a word for him to be Head of commonwealth even though that role is not hereditary Ann probably keeps busy with her horses and animals on acres of land. Then there is Andrew enough said about him. Then Edward what does he do life of luxury only because his mum happens to be queen what job or work has he ever done. It's true what Harry said they are trapped. But trapped in unheard of luxury.

They are in a soap opera the press always fawning over them what they wear trivia Is this what we want to hear? A HoS should be on the side of the people. There for the people. And Harry and William have they made up will they won't they or not.

The monarch is a stable HoS - if there was an elected HoS the best people are likely not to want the job or think they are not good enough for it - or maybe be like David Attenborough and be far too busy to want to stop their real passion and deal with politicians. How long a period would they serve would be a big question too.
Parliament should decide most of the laws of the country and knows it is on a limited time - a monarch can do great service for a country and keeps out of open conflict with politicians or other HoS.
I have never given the question much thought but if the question did arise I think on balance I quite like our system so would vote for the status quo.

IMO she's very effectual, way above average as a monarch and has achieved a great deal due to a life time of service to her country.

Mm negotiated a very good deal which made sure she could pretend to be paying taxes whilst dodging any that might significantly impact on her personal wealth (although I suspect it's a financial advisor who put her up to it)
