Johnson's lies (again) Why do people still believe him?

People like Boris because he comes across as being like lots of us, a bit bewildered at times, a private life that is chaotic, a dog that doesn't behave well, he has had the virus and been in hospital, he goes to the England semi-final and behaves like any other fan wearing his England shirt. Never underestimate him he knows exactly what he is doing, twice mayor of London, newspaper journalist, editor of a political magazine, well educated, well connected and can call in any favour whenever it suits him. He also has a lot of luck.

What's to be done about it, what can we/anyone do to ensure a person of good judgement, honesty and integrity is the next PM, rather than some likeable (to some) chancer?

I didn't vote for Johnson, I can't watch or listen to Johnson and I KNOW he lies within his personal life so why would he not lie in his professional life.

My mother was heavily involved in national and international politics on behalf of the conservative party, and to help HER out I assisted at many a cocktail party on behalf of Heseltine, and then Johnson. Johnson would swan in, dishevelled and spitting as he does, boasting about his having had to sleep in his car as Marina had found out about his latest paramour.

He disgusted me then and my opinion has never changed. He is totally untrustworthy in his personal life, so why on earth can people believe or have any confidence in him as the leader of our country?

I was a firm supporter but no longer especially now I've learnt about the pysop they've unleashed on the British public. I recommend everyone reads A State of Fear by Laura Dodsworth, it will open your eyes.

99% of all politicians lie. I don't believe most of them most of the time. That was before Brexit or Covid-19. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of say in what any party that is the government at the time does or says. We have to toe the line in general and do what we can to make sure our own lives are the best we can make them.wirhin the law of the land. I hate voting and avoid it like the plague most times.

I have been saying this for months on GN; irrespective of your political affiliations or beliefs, why on earth would you vote for a person with a moral code which is ( I assume) completely opposite to what most of us believe, contrary to how most of us raised our children. You know the stuff; don't cheat, don't lie, answer questions politely, take the blame if you get it wrong, confess your mistakes, be loyal to friends............I would be just as disgusted if this man was a Labour party leader. I am not prepared to take the argument about all politicians are liars because it is not true, and if you think that, then frankly you should not vote.

I don't think it's true that 99% of all politicians lie.

I cannot believe we have this liar in office, where is this £325 million for the NHS? or the 'oven ready' deal? People I know and like said they wouldn't vote for Corbyn because they 'didn't like him' which is a great shame and voting for the wrong thing in my opinion, its not a personality contest, the PM spends our taxes and too much is going on private health care, & in the industry I work in, private foster care, which doesn't bring better services. But the profits are stunning, which is why so many Tories have shares in them. There is much corruption in this gov't & I can't wait to get rid of them & am furious that they are rigging voting in their favour.

Johnson is lazy, a liar, a cheat, immoral and went into politics for what he could get out of it, I'll never understand why people prefer him to a decent, honest, hard working MP who went into politics for what he could do for other people (Keir Starmer)

I've come to the conclusion that many voters aren't interested in politics but love a "character" and Johnson plays on being a "character" with all his photo opportunities and dressing up in work clothes. I even doubt he's ever been interested in football before now but watch out for all the photos of him wearing an England shirt.

Well I don’t fall for any of his “wit and charm”. I have never voted Tory and never will. To me, this is the worst government I have endured in my lifetime. I do not trust any of them and my own Tory MP is a nightmare!

I think you are right Lucca, he did want the job...until he got it and, even before Covid, realised the amount of work and decision making involved, and the somewhat reduced opportunities to "leave everything to everyone else" model of working that he has been doing all his life! He must have had the shock of his life ...and then along came Covid! I just wonder how much longer he will stay there!

Remember the crowded Brighton beach, the Lake District inundated with litter left behind for the locals to clear up. When the situation has demanded it, he has had to change direction. Is this lying or is this trying to do the best he can for us. Perhaps he deserves our support instead of all the incessant critisism.

Err. That’d be a resounding no. I don’t know a single person who thinks he’s ok. Even those who thought he was ‘fun’ now think he’s the most appalling PM we’ve had in our lifetimes. You might find yourself in a fast reducing minority.

I think all prime ministers are as bad as each other. They've all taken advantage of their position and if you fish around enough, there'll always be dirt to dig up. It's a tactic they all use, so it falls on deaf ears with me. I happen to like Boris Johnson, he's not a snow flake like a lot of the other " yes" men.

Well said Vaselli... I'm totally with you, I think he's done a grand Job re: covid. It's the idiots who flout the rules and the anti vax protesters that are to blame. Not Boris. The man's got guts, unlike a lot of the other weak prime ministers. I liked Churchill too.

People love a larrikin to use an Australianism. One of the lads etc. Similar to the late lamented Bob Hawke who also was a womanising so and so. Not a very good recommendation but there you go, human nature.
