Andrew Neil compares GB News to ‘UKIP tribute band’

No surprise there, I'd say.

25Avalon Tue 14-Sept-21 12:24:09

Andrew Neil has stood down as chairman, which is no real surprise. He will, however, make occasional appearances on the news show.

Andrew Neil on Question Time this week

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:51:01

Avalon I couldn’t understand why it was a TV station in the first place.
It would have worked much better on the radio.
The whole format and content is suited to radio.

25Avalon Fri 10-Sept-21 09:48:13

Who cares? If you want to watch it, watch it, if you don’t want to watch it don’t watch it. Economically it will swim or sink at the end of the day. Personally I now listen to Radio 4 news and debate programmes rather than watch. Yes it is part of the BBC but there is more bite by the presenters and much more multi sided debates.

I don’t watch Farage or Dan Wooton, but at least you have a choice to switch off their programmes,. GB news has different presenters, unlike ITV and BBC where you get the same old presenters day after day, and they come across as arrogant and sneering.

Here are lists of news presenters on ITV and BBC.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_BBC_newsreaders_and_reporters

www.tvnewsroom.co.uk/itv-news/itv-news-presenters-2333/
There are over 30 people on the BBC list and 12 on the ITV list.

You do not get the same old presenters day after day at all.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:41:45

He fell out with the owner of the station

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:41:21

Now we're really getting cross posts grin

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:40:35

I wonder if that's why Neil is reportedly leaving? He thought it was going to be a proper station where he could make a mark but instead they are a bunch of amateurs with daft opinions?

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:40:34

That was to Alegrias
I’m all over the shop today confused

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:39:57

Oh, I agree with you.
I’m damning with faint praise by comparing him to the others.
He’s like a cross between Frost & Dimbleby compared to the other muppets

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:38:35

I forgot to say ‘unlike most of the others’
I’ve honestly never seen such amateurish rubbish on TV

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:38:14

Not so sure about the claim that he is "coherent" Fannygrin.

A man may smile and smile and be a villain.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:37:10

At least with Farage, he knows his way around a studio and can talk coherently to a camera.
I don’t agree with any of his opinions, but he is an engaging presenter. I used to enjoy his LBC shows, prior to him getting the boot

I have put it on a couple of times but didn't find it very interesting, the sound quality also seems really poor and I know my hearing isn't as sharp as it was but I can hear the news on BBC and ITV so don't think it is that.

I turned it on last night to see what it was like and the presenter was Dan Wootton. He seeemed to be having a bit of a rant about vaccines and it wasn't very balanced.

For a different view of the news I sometimes watch Al Jazeera. They do some interesting documentaries and they are often about things that don't seem to hit the main channels. I wouldn't make it my main news channel but it can be a change.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:04:19

I predicted on here that Farage would take over as soon as this clown car of an station launched.

Lucca Fri 10-Sept-21 08:55:53

Anything that contains Nigel Farage as a presenter, guest or stand up comedian is a no for me and anyway I don’t know where to watch it and I rarely watch tv news.

Lincslass Fri 10-Sept-21 08:44:42

Absolutely, why are they even bothering if it offends them so much, to prove a point, of what I’m not sure. Find GB news refreshing, it knocks the gov as well as the opposition, and of course the snp . Good all rounder, middle of the road. More interesting topics that the BBC, and ITV. Just seen an interview about Mansoor , a British Afghani who escaped from the Taliban twice, very moving and uplifting.

Alegrias1 Sun 05-Sept-21 10:19:14

Oh. Well knock me down with a feather.

For many years we have been told not to believe anything that the Express, Mail, Sun, prints.
So why should we believe this: because it suits your wishful thinking.

I don't know who "we" is and who has been telling "us" anything.

Here's some real data about viewing figures from BARB:

From 2 Aug - 8 Aug 2,392,000 watched GB News for even a very short time. That represents 3.79% of the population. The total share of possible TV programmes watched was 0.22%. The average viewing time was 22 seconds.

To put that into context, these are the equivalent statistics for BBC1: 46,862,000 people watched BBC1 (74.2%). They watched 22.7% of all possible viewing for an average of 36 minutes.

GB News has some way to go before it becomes mainstream.

Well I certainly haven't said anything previously about those newspapers and my post didn't display any 'wishful thinking' on my part.

I was just posting what was reported and leaving you and others free to do your own thinking and believing as you saw fit.
