Kuenssberg Cummings interview

We just watched this.
DH was annoyed by Cummings but I noticed why he was annoyed.

The classic sign of a liar is that someone who constantly puts their hand or fingers across their mouth when speaking which he did. He also put his fingers on his face, touched his ear (didn't want to hear what Kuenssberg was asking).

When he spoke of how he and his group manipulated Johnson his hands were nowhere near his mouth. Nor were they when he talked about he conned the British public. So much was truth.

He wants to overthrow the government (democracy?.

Respect! to Laura Kuenssberg who skewered him again and again.

Re checking his eyesight, driving when he wasn't well or she wasn't well with a child in the car has been hashed and rehashed so many times on other threads it is becoming irrelevant now.

It was the references to the shadowy group who think they hold the power in this country that is most worrying.

The fact that Cummings received the electorate over Brexit and now seems so contemptuous of the fact that many believed him.

He displays more than arrogance - a brief insight into his mind is terrifying.

To be honest, I don't care what LK wore, what people read into the behaviour of the BBC or whether Cummings was scratching his nose so obviously (to our ham psychologists) lying.

I don't care what LK was wearing, what DC was wearing, that LK looks older or that DC had a shiny pate.

But to dismiss other posters as ham psychologists and childish says a fair amount about you

Great post. There are a couple of grown-ups on here then.

I don't quite understand what you are getting at with this statement, PippaZ. I think there are considerably more than 2, though the children do seem to have come out to play in the last hour or so...

I don't know why people are asking why, then, did his wife not drive. Do we know his wife can drive? And even if she can, how would a jaunt out with her driving have made him able to determine if he was fit to drive 300 miles the following day? I'm sorry but "why didn't his wife drive?" as some have asked, is completely the wrong question.

I would be astounded if his wife couldn't drive; this is the 21stC, not the 19thC. Women do drive these days. Didn't I say that I've done much the same journey all alone, on many occasions over the past 40 years. When a last checked I am definitely a woman.
The question is very relevant. Either she can't drive, in which case he would say she can't, or she can drive, in which case she could have driven back to London and there would have been no need for the test drive to Barney.. He's still lying through his teeth with that story.

Re official secrets act I personally know more folk who have signed it than not! Both sets my parents, brother, husband, daughters have.

There is a thread running today
‘How did a large snail get in to the toilet’
I thought it was going to be the same subject.

LauraNorder grin

We once wondered why the toilet wouldn't flush properly and found a snake in the cistern!

Callistemon Wed 21-Jul-21 14:48:07

I did notice she was looking down and to the left a great deal of the time. I wondered why she was doing that as, as another poster has said, interviewers usually look at their subjects. I wondered if she was checking her notes or something
Jillybird I assumed she was looking at her notes.

If this interview was rehearsed, why was he so bad?
Perhaps that could be why he had his hand over his mouth - he was spouting pre-prepared lies.

MissAdventure Wed 21-Jul-21 14:43:59

I noticed the signs of a liar ages ago, when he wasn't sure whether covid had affected his eyesight, so had to go out and about in his car to check.

Perhaps Laura K could get some straight answers out of Boris ???

Do you think so?

It would be like trying to pin down water.

People like Cummings are ten a penny in governments and business. They come and they go. It is because he is so unattractive in appearance and in personality that he makes Boris so appealing to people. Boris has known Cummings a very long time as Cummings wife took over from Boris at the magazine he edited. So is it all for effect and ratings.

Don’t ever be tempted to watch Basic Instinct.

What does this all say for the governance of our country? The voting system that puts a Johnson in place and the way those employed in the government work? Do we get monkey's running our country because we pay peanuts? Should Parliament be in such old and inappropriate buildings that these machinations are easy to carry out etc., etc?

muffinthemoo Wed 21-Jul-21 13:59:24

He is a man who absolutely believes the ends justify the means.

He also does not realise or accept that he and a bunch of mates do not get to decide what the ends look like for an entire nation of strangers.

I have had plenty digs at Carrie Antoinette myself, but she did the UK a great service in chasing off this man.

PippaZ Wed 21-Jul-21 13:54:00

Not keen on someone with Le Pen's politics though.

PippaZ Wed 21-Jul-21 13:53:02

Weasel, yes. But no more than Boris deserves. All of them a complete shower. I think I would rather live with the ghastly Le Pen if she wins the election in France next year. Unlikely but more acceptable that this lot in UK.

Laura Kuensberg is a brilliant journalist/interviewer and I couldn't care less what she wears, it's irrelevant to thinking people.

Great post. There are a couple of grown-ups on here then.

Alegrias1 Wed 21-Jul-21 13:43:20

The least alarming thing about that interview was Kuenssberg's legs.

Here are some Newsnight ladies for comparison.

Pippa22 .... “What!” (Re Laura’s dress and ageing) ... as Oprah would say. I personally found her absolutely fine.

I did ask DH if he would feel uncomfortable sitting in front of a woman showing lots of leg and he said he wouldn’t quite know where to look and, yes, he would feel uncomfortable. The Newsnight ladies don’t dress like that. I do realise it’s a petty point I’m making but it’s different dressing like that if, say you’re in a board meeting and everyone is sat round a desk.

^I just kept wondering who 'we' are and why 'we' think we can run control the country better than anyone else^

Exactly this. And what are ‘they’ up to now?

Regardless of who was wearing what and wasn’t that a cheap and nasty pen that Kuenssberg was holding, this is the one serious message that we should take from this interview.
There exists a group of people “we” who want to control whatever government has been democratically elected by us. What the hell can be done about that?

Lin663 Wed 21-Jul-21 13:29:40

If everything he said was true, you have to question the judgement of the PM for appointing such an arrogant, manipulative snake. If nothing he said was true, you have to question the judgement of the PM for appointing someone so lacking in honest and integrity. Basically, neither of them came out of it looking anything other than even more awful than I already thought they were!

Chewbacca I like weasels, in fact I like all animals. Dominic Cummings needs a descriptor all of his own ?

Theoddbird Wed 21-Jul-21 13:02:50

I too noticed the signs of a liar. A lot of the time he looked away from her when he was answering questions as well as the ones you pointed out. He is a very bitter man....

Growing0ldDisgracefully Wed 21-Jul-21 12:59:03

Regarding the OSA, I worked for a local government dept, which was taken into the civil service. All staff received a generic email confirming our transfer of employment and stating that by dint of accepting the transfer, we were deemed to have signed the official secrets act. Not sure how binding that was, given we never actually saw a copy of the act, were never told what it covered, or actually signed anything! Not sure if it covers this revelation, but it became so hideously beaurocractic and formerly decent staff turned into monsters because of the policies, that I was glad to leave. Please would some of you still write to me in prison, if I get carted off to jail for revealing that?
BTW, it wasn't a high profile job, it was a humble office job which I then got paid less for than I had previously. I'm not bitter mind you....
