We just watched this.
DH was annoyed by Cummings but I noticed why he was annoyed.

The classic sign of a liar is that someone who constantly puts their hand or fingers across their mouth when speaking which he did. He also put his fingers on his face, touched his ear (didn't want to hear what Kuenssberg was asking).

When he spoke of how he and his group manipulated Johnson his hands were nowhere near his mouth. Nor were they when he talked about he conned the British public. So much was truth.

He wants to overthrow the government (democracy?.

Respect! to Laura Kuenssberg who skewered him again and again.

Perhaps Laura K could get some straight answers out of Boris ???

Nannashirlz Wed 21-Jul-21 11:50:14

Personally I didn’t watch it, I think he comes across as a bitter ex. Also if that’s how he treats his friends imagine how he treats his enemies. I am however surprised that. Anyone who works in high power roles not under a gagging order. That should they leave or be sacked mention anything that has being in seen or said.

henetha Wed 21-Jul-21 11:47:58

Isn't he a rat! I loathe him.

jaylucy Wed 21-Jul-21 11:46:25

Oh boy, has that man got a large axe to grind!
You could just say what was in his mind as soon as he was seen stomping out of No.10.

BBC hated him when he was in with the gov and Boris. Now he is against Boris as are the BBC they think Cummings is flavour of the month. Biased Broadcasting Cooperation. Defund them now!!!!

I don’t think we’ve had the truth about Castle Barnard either. It didn’t sound right at the time. You don’t drive 30 miles to check your eyesight is ok to drive. Aren’t there some science labs or something there?

Baranard Castle science labs. That’s precisely what I said to DH last night. I didn’t know about the Taxpayers Alliance. All I knew about were the ERG and the CRG.

cummings should have sat the other way round to show his best side. The fact he had his hand over his face through the interview hiding that side of him says it all.

Yammy Wed 21-Jul-21 11:14:41

I watched the program and listened intently, didn't really pick up on the body language just the hint of a smile now and again.
Would he really be able to tell so many lies if that is what they were when he kept saying there were other people there? Are they keeping quiet if what he said was true for the sake of their jobs or a rocky government?
I hope there is a big enquiry at the END of the pandemic then we will find out Cabinet, medical and other associated agencies views and actions were when it appeared to be a world pandemic.
Laura Kuensberg was superb straight to the point.
I also ask like others what is this chaps agenda?

maddyone Wed 21-Jul-21 10:55:30

I haven’t read the whole thread yet, will read it when I’m at the hairdressers shortly. I just want to say I have never liked Dominic Cummings, and this interview has done nothing to change my opinion.

He said he was abroad when he received the call from Johnson to handle the Referendum campaign - Kuenssberg should have asked him where he was. Was it Russia?

Yes, I think it was.
I was waiting for her to skewer him on that one too but she didn't.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 21-Jul-21 06:17:27
It could be a figment of his imagination!

He could be completely delusional, but, if he is not, this makes a mockery of democracy and is extremely sinister.

Sinister - I think that is the word that I would apply to him.
I'm just reading about Rasputin at the moment.)

Yes Maizie, one should probably watch it again since there was a lot to digest; some of it rather poisonous!

I wonder what future generations will make of this period in our history. Things definitely seem surreal at times.

The way he was grinning when he talked about the message on the red bus and how its aim was to mislead voters makes me shudder.

I didn't think he was claiming that its aim was to mislead voters. In fact, when Kuenssberg suggested that didn't he deny it? He said it was to annoy the Remain campaigners. As was the 'Turkey about to join the EU' message (and, by implication, the rest about the EU army etc.)

Didn't he also claim that they were 'discussion points'? Except that the Leave campaign never actually discussed it, just shouted 'Project Fear' at anyone who did try to 'discuss'? So ironic that the whole Leave campaign was based on a massive Project Fear and they turned it round to accuse Remain of perpetrating it...

Have I got this wrong? Should I watch it again?

Not a lot of interest in the manipulation of democracy and its blatantly planned overthrow, is there?

Polarbear2 Wed 21-Jul-21 10:08:56

I’d agree with the Tufton St mob being the ‘we’. Johnson is just the front man they put in. Once they’ve done with him they’ll out him and put their next man in. And we think we are in charge of who is in power?? Not in a million. There’s very dirty dark dealings going on behind this government.

PippaZ Wed 21-Jul-21 09:26:06

he is one he isn't one.

PippaZ Wed 21-Jul-21 09:25:44

I think the "we" varied through the interview. At one point it is his "team", i.e., those working with and for him. At another it seems to be MPs - possibly those he worked with on the Vote Leave campaign.

I am surprised by some of the comments. Some seem to expect him to behave like a politician - he is one. Sometimes those behind the throne prefer the power that comes with that job.

“Anyone who thinks Brexit is a good thing has a screw loose” - he got that right.

But having said that he later appeared to be saying that Brexit was absolutely the right thing for the country. Enumerating the benefits that no-one has seen yet. Quite contradictory really.

The more I think about it, the more this interview feels fake. Cummings slid past answering questions directly and Kuenssberg's surprise/shock etc. looked like acting. And she barely looked at him. Interviewers usually look their interviewees in the eye.

Overnight reflection brings the conclusion that 'we' are the group of far right libertarians based in Tufton St. Their best known organisation is the Taxpayers Alliance, which has nothing to do with actual taxpayers but which campaigns for the very wealthy to avoid having to pay any tax at all.
They backed the Vote Leave campaign and are associated with figures such as Steve Bannon, who orchestrated Trump's 2016 campaign...
They are also very keen on deregulation and withdrawal of worker's rights.

Yes that sounds much more likely than my theory.

I’ll go with your idea

Astu Wed 21-Jul-21 08:39:23

The interview made me so sad. These people are running the country.
River walk - I’m afraid I do believe that Carrie is a political animal and bound to be involved.

I think,- but somehow it doesn’t fit - that the most likely group are the shadowy and not so shadowy Tory backbenchers of a particular group.

They seem to have enormous influence with each prime minister never making any decision without at least half an eye on them. Even with a big majority.

But that doesn’t make sense given what Cummings has said in the past.

Must think about that.
