Decent MPs - who do you rate?

To be honest I can't think of anyone who could step up to be P.M, or a government minister.. No one comes to mind . They are a wet bunch with no grit, integrity or determination.

I agree that Yvette Cooper is really sensible, Jess Phillips has conviction and Caroline Noakes talks sense. Shame Andy Burnham isn't available at present to lead the beleaguered Labour Party

Another vote for Yvette Cooper, also Stella Creasy and, my own MP, Chi Onwurah. As these are all female I'll add Keir Starmer, To me these are all MPs who really want to make a difference and not just feather their own nests (yes, I know they are all Labour)

Rachel Maskell, our local MP. Always around in York and very approachable. Also Jess Philips - says it like it is.

Martin Vickers. Local man for local needs. Fights our corner when everyone else gives up on the area.

I respect Dawn Butler after what she did today.

Philippa Whitford is the MP for Central Ayrshire, and is also a breast surgeon. When she speaks about the Health Service you can tell that she knows what she is talking about.

She's not my MP but I have met her and she is very impressive.

So did I....until I read some of the posts.

We haven't seen neither hide nor hair of our MP since they shut the local golf course for covid over early last year. But I'm sure he'll pop up again when there's an election.

Whenever I've asked me to look into a problem for me, all I've been given is sympathy, no action from him at all, he's pretty useless in my opinion, but keeps getting re-elected as its a safe seat.

I agree with Kim19 and find most MPs are just trying to talk the talk without any conviction. I too am disenchanted with politics and give up thinking any one is doing anything.

I have been trying for almost 6 months to get something done about the small house next door to me. The man died in
January 2021 and his son cleared out household items and rubbish in February. The son did not live there and has not been seen since. I have constantly tried the Housing Association and asked to have the place cleared without any thing getting done at all. In the end I contacted my M.P at end of March explaining everything. I was told he was really busy and given a case number telling me he would do something about my problem soon.

This morning I opened an e-mail from him which was so long and went on about the country and coronavirus and talking about the conservative government and Boris. It was just a waffling e-mail and actually it said nothing about my original reason for contacting him. The only thing about the e-mail was it displayed the case number I had been given.
So I bloody give up it was the most random e-mail I have received and a bloody waste of time contacting him.
I wonder who will get my vote next time I just might not bother voting.

I haven’t got much time for most (if not all) politicians from any side of the House.As for being ‘decent’ unless we know them well personally, we can’t possibly know.
All I ask is not for saintliness but for MP’s who actually do try their best for most of the time, and a government that makes the best decisions it can, at any given moment, for the good of the whole country , while acknowledging they will often get it wrong.... I don’t expect miracles.

Of the Welsh MPs I’d better not name mine, suffice to say she’s less use than a chocolate teapot. I rate Wayne David, who’s Caerphilly MP highly.

Mhairi Black of the SNP for, amongst other things, her anti-nuclear weapon stance and the way she has campaigned for WASPI women.

Absolutely Jess Phillips. She is brilliant, and a champion against domestic violence. I follow her on Twitter.

Weirdly, an MP can lie to the House with absolute impunity, but another MP calling them a liar is punished...

No, they can’t lie to Parliament with absolute impunity....if proven lies have been told in the House then the PM (or MP )is held to account for it for deceiving members.
What Butler ( and anyone else) can’t do is to call a member a liar ....there are ways of doing things, in other words ‘thems the rules’ and she knew that. It’s all part of playing politics.

I agree Fanny about Margaret Beckett. Also now like Dawn Butler and I still like Jeremy Corbyn. Keir Starmer seems decent and honourable too.

For the first time in my life I cannot find a single MP lurking anywhere in the background that I have a slight admiration for. To be fair, I'm currently thoroughly disenchanted with politics in general and have been paying much less attention. Don't think I would recognise half of them far less know their names. I'll have to have a serious word with myself and buck up before the next election as I will definitely vote.

Especially when those at the top are positively working against the interests of their constituents. (I'm assuming you are talking about tory MPs struggling against the bunch of lying incompetents in the Cabinet...)

Not my MP, but whenever I hear the Conservative backbencher, Andrew Percy, speak in the Commons, he comes across as an honest, decent, hard working chap, in the job for the good he can do for his constituents.
