So if the bill is passed and a journalist exposes a act of corruption, or fraud or breaking the ministerial code or the law or lies, or just incompetence - all reported since this government took office what will happen?

Imprisonment? Fines?

This government has more in common with China that western democracy.

Today's Peter Brookes' cartoon in the Times is spot on , a brilliant commentary on the lack of " trust, truth, reliability, leadership, competence, honesty, integrity, probity, rectitude" of Johnson , under the heading "Short supply".

Dawn Butler was breaking Parliamentary rules, she knew this and still carried on.

Johnson breaks the rules every time he appears before parliament.

The speaker is not in top of his brief. He isn’t up to the job.

Lies are truth
Truth is lies.

I don't normally join in with these posts but was utterly appalled hearing Lady Heywood on the radio today. Sounds like the Greensill enquiry led by Boardman was a complete stitch up job of her husband who died in 2018 and was unable to defend himself. Just sickening. Also listened to the first two podcasts of the DC/LK interview and totally disgusted that this vile man was at the heart of government. His only redeeming feature is that he thinks BJ is a rubbish PM and not up to the job. Welcome to the club DC but many of us knew that before he got the job!

No respect for a liar calling out a liar.

Could you please clarify here- are you saying that Dawn Butler was lying when she called Johnson a liar?

Because a vast majority know that she was 100% correct- and are very grateful that she was brave enough to say so, using the correct word, and refused to retract. I hope many others will follow from the opposite bench. Ian Blackford has done it several times recently.

It is a very worrying turn of events and reminiscent of the sorts of policies that are followed in dictatorships.

Apparently most of the correspondence between ministers concerning covid was on whatsapp and the govt is trying to get rid of it so that it won't be available for any future enquiry.

At last a courageous MP

But just look at our democracy that punishes the person calling out the lies but never hold the person lying to Parliament to account.

Dawn Butler was breaking Parliamentary rules, she knew this and still carried on.

And thank goodness she did. I for one is very grateful- respect.

Ah, I also forgot. They don't want the population to be allowed to peacefully protest, even when they have just cause.

Journalists can already be jailed for up to2 years for leaking sensitive information. Depends who they leak it to I suppose. 14years will not be passed through Parliament I would hope.

This government is becoming more like a dictatorship everyday. Truth is not allowed now, if it exposes the government's corruption.

So journalists can be imprisoned for writing the truth about a corrupt government.

MPs are thrown out of Parliament for speaking the truth (Dawn Butler thrown out for pointing out Boris has lied repeatedly).
