RNLI and Farage

I am finding it difficult to get my brain around the concept, that there are people in this country who would rather let a world wide respected maritime organisation see people drown than save them.

I just hope that Farage criticising them for doing their job ensures that they have the best year yet from donations.

MaizieD. The call comes from the Coastguard who will have assessed the situation and decided whether lifeboat, helicopter or shore based rescue is best.

The Coastguard gets their information from different sources. On board distress calls, flares, 999 calls by the public, other shipping, nowadays satellites play a role.

I was just about to ask whether this happens as I have lived on the Kent coast and the RNLI always came out if needed confused if the coastguard was called! People are talking as if the coastguard has a fleet of boats like ambulances and I just wondered if I was being naive!

In real life, I think quite a lot of us might look at those whom folk chose to associate before forming an opinion.

Someone who chose to be associated with Nigel Farage, Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson, Marine le Pen, Donald Trump. Narendra Modi, Rodrigo Duterte, Viktor Orbán, Jair Bolsonaro and Vladimir Putin would be someone to avoid.

So how could anyone ever have justified voting for the abomination that is brexit???

‘Ere we go, ‘ere we go.....Brexit worked into the conversation again.Got to hand it to you varian....?you never give up.

why do you think? Are you saying Brexit has made no difference to our relationship with the French Governement and policing around Calais and other ports?

And you don’t comment on the subject in and so I wonder if chestnut will attack you ? Hmmm. I think not.

Men in family have been lifeboatmen since 1822 and probably unofficially saving lives at sea before then.

They are volunteers and put to sea to save lives. Any life, any creed, colour, origin, circumstance, foolishness, inexperience, accident, any life. Without judgement.

I’m proud of my ancestors who crewed and skippered the lifeboats and of those who do today.

The Government hasn’t asked them to do this. They do not answer or respond to them.

They put their own lives at risk simply to save others. Because they won’t let them die if they can be saved.

Lucca I think you've misread what I meant, it was a comment typical of the posts on this thread, which are just having a pop at Farage but not discussing the actual content of what he said. I wasn't saying all your posts are like that, but that particular one was, and had no bearing on the subject.

How did it have no bearing on the subject ?? I was commenting on the video of Farage from GB news ???

“Luccas post is typical, complete ignores the subject ..etc etc” how is that not about my posts ?”

Two questions for you please.

You were commenting that there was a mention of Harry and Meghan in the video. This does not relate to the RNLI subject.
I'm sorry if my choice of words made you think something that was not intended. I've explained in my previous post.
But your post was after all just an excuse for a pop at Farage, with no mention of what he actually said about the RNLI and migrants. Calling someone names does not really add to the discussion.

This is the thread title “ RNLI and Farage “. I commented on Farage’s. Video about the RNLI

MaizieD Thu 29-Jul-21 19:27:53

I'm not clear about this. Who is calling the RNLI out to aid the asylum seekers?

frightening number of Farage supporters on here today. Must be the weather

Not a Farage supporter but adult enough to understand a point made by someone even if I don't like them.

lemongrove Thu 29-Jul-21 18:55:09

Are they though? Is the government asking the RNLI to do this?If so, then entirely wrong, but we need to be sure of all the facts first.

Barmeyoldbat Thu 29-Jul-21 18:51:02

Once again, just like food banks, this government is relying on charities to do their job.

I don't like Farage but having watched the clip I can see his point. Using a charity such as RNLI to do the work of the authorities is wrong. Of course the RLNI will go out to save people at risk but I don't believe this is how they should be used.

It isn’t how it should be used.If the RNLI are getting distress calls and responding to them and liaising with the coastguard all well and good, of course they would never ignore people in trouble at sea.If, on the other hand they are actively going into French waters to look for migrants off their own bat as it were, that’s different and needs to be looked at.
So which is it?

valdali Thu 29-Jul-21 18:37:29

The RNLi are brilliant, luckily for them they have a fairly affluent clientele with the big motor yachts - I do hope a small proportion of what they spend on mooring fees & fuel (+++) is donated to the RNLi who will get scrambled to save them should they get into problems (sea is no respecter of affluence).
Farage is more of a shooting chap isn't he? Hope he's shot himself in the foot.

Hooray, people have now donated thousand so Farages rant has done them a service

Barmeyoldbat Thu 29-Jul-21 17:42:02

It is not the fault of the RNLI that the people they rescue are refugees, they will rescue whoever is in danger. The fault lies with the government, they should be doing a great deal more than they are to help refugees who need help in obtaining a safe place to live and shame on Farage and all that support him.

Lucca Thu 29-Jul-21 17:39:34

I took the time to listen to his “speech” on GB news

Lucca Thu 29-Jul-21 17:37:29

Chestnut. Lucca's post above is typical, completely ignores the subject itself and picks on two irrelevant things which have no bearing on it whatsoever just so she can have a pop.

You know what? I Think you’re rather rude. Do I typically ignore the subject itself ? When ? Where ?

He mentioned Meghan and harry !

Well how rude.

Chestnut Thu 29-Jul-21 17:29:07

Well, WWM2 I wonder if you can 'get you head around' the fact that your OP is complete nonsense. Who are these people you mention who would rather let people drown than save them? And who has criticised the RNLI for doing their job?
