English people want to bring back mask wearing and social distancing

My gs and gd both caught covid since the restriction on masks was lifted, one works in a supermarket and the other does security at nightclubs. I still wear a mask but I would much prefer it if it was made law and we had to wear them indoors in any public place.

I was out in our local town today, most people were masked up in public places, except for some of the younger demographics Like most I don't like wearing a mask but I shall carry on whilst in shops and when I enter a restaurant, library, hairdressers or anywhere else where it's deemed necessary for the foreseeable future, for myself and as a courtesy to others.

I believe there has been a spike in infections in the 20 something age group since nightclubs have opened.

Weirdly I am not bothered about young people going to nightclubs

It does seem high. About 2% of the UK population are agoraphobic - but you would think they wouldn't be interested in what others do. Then you have the "extremely vulnerable". However, they wouldn't benefit from others staying home.

Perhaps that is just divided between the very fearful and the bloody-minded?

I take a mask with me and wear it if others are doing so or I am asked; I sanitise my hands, don't go abroad and avoid nightclubs (!).
I am not surprised to see that 17% wish to keep people in their homes, (I know some of them) although these same people are perfectly happy for manufacturers, shop workers and drivers, and even their husbands, to prepare and deliver their essential supplies to their safe homes.

I still wear my mask and I am being sensible but I tend to get the impression I'm more at risk from Covid denying non mask wearers than they are from me so it's all very well saying use common sense and personal responsibility but it isn't ABOUT ME, it's about everyone. I suppose masks were just a simple way of controlling the spread of infection.

I realise someone will now post they fainted on the bus because they were wearing one or similar.

Nothing is stopping anyone from wearing face coverings Lucca . I have been out shopping and dining since 19th July and the majority of folks are still wearing them along with respecting each other’s space.

I know that! I just would have preferred them To be compulsory in certain cases.

My dog contributed to that % - she hates me going out.

Nothing really, the implication, rightly or wrongly was in the inference that the You Gov poll indicated most were Labour voters who wanted this.

Its not an inference, it's the actual result

I share your amazement Alegrias1. I'll hazard a guess these are people who are quite content largely remaining in their homes in normal times, and don't find it a hardship to abstain from social interaction. For the rest of us, cite restrictions which are sensible, necessary and science based and most of us will comply.

My friends who live in England are delighted that the restrictions have been lifted and do not want them back. I will not wear a mask from Monday in Scotland. If people can stand at bars and drink and also dance in hot steamy night clubs with no masks. Many of these people may not even have been vaccinated either. NS knows that she cannot lift some restrictions in certain indoor settings, its all or nothing.

We don’t need MORE. We just IMO should continue with the masks.

As SAGE predicted 100,000 infections a day by mid August which hasn’t happened.

Infections/positive cases are falling, all over 18’s have been offered the vaccine why do we need more restrictions?

As infections are not rising I can see no reason to do this.

We have noticed less stomach bugs ( ? Hand washing ?) less summer colds ( masks ? ) but less socialising means more black moods ,
we build up our immunity to bugs by catching minor ailments , so I’m not sure about continuing total distancing ,
we might end up like the tribes that were wiped out by bugs when explorers brought illnesses to cut off areas !

As a Conservative voter, as are many in my town, many are still wearing masks, keeping social distancing, some are not, usually young to middle thirties, but that was always the case, as in anything you always get those that won’t comply. I also think it was too soon, but we are were we are, and up to each of us who believe in personal responsibility to carry on doing our best to stay safe.
