Rant away - I am speaking for all those that are weary of your carry on but are not inclined to speak up for fear of your response. I can take it !!!!!

You are not speaking for anyone else. Did other posters ask you to make these comments? Was there a vote?

You are adding nothing to the discussion - I doubt if you can. Your posts are there to stir, nothing more. I think there is a word for that. The best thing all those who want a proper discussion can do is ignore your sense of entitlement.

I, for one, will do just that.

Make U.K., an organisation that represents U.K. manufacturers has reported that after talking to over 1000 businesses not one has reported a single benefit from Brexit.

Food and drink exports have dropped by 50%

17% are no longer exporting at all. Nearly all the advantages are in the EUs favour.

Supply issues of components are causing severe difficulties.

I'm reading our exports to the EU are back to pre Brexit levels

Well, took about 30 seconds to disprove that one.

Exports to the EU overtook non-EU countries in May 2021 and remain higher in June 2021. However, monthly data are erratic and small movements should be treated with caution," it said. "With the ongoing pandemic and recession, it is too early to assess the extent to which this reflects short-term trade disruption or longer-term supply chain adjustments. We will assess this over the coming months.

Compared with Q2 2018, the last stable period before EU exit, total exports, including the EU, were down by 4.4% and imports by 2%," he said. "Comparing June 2021 with June 2018, total UK exports (including to the EU) were down by 7.4% and imports by 2%.

A thread on the problems of exporting to the EU. This is the original thread only

This link is the thread and the conversations that resulted from it:

It's easy enough to read, just scroll down it.

Though I can't see any of the Brexit cheerleaders reading it and trying to even attempt to understand what problems it's causing and how much the country, and individual businesses, is losing

How very public spirited of you, well done. After this are you off to tell the Gardening posters that you are really fed up with all this talk of geraniums?

Bin collections (or lack of) is an issue here, too.
Copied from Torbay Council's Newsletter, received today by email:-

"Waste and recycling collection update
SWISCo is still working hard across Torbay to catch up on delays to collections.
We hope to have all outstanding residual waste and recycling collected by the end of this week so please leave it in your usual spot ready for collection.
We apologise for the delays and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
If you hold a current class 2 HGV licence and have an awareness and understanding of the health and safety implications that can affect HGV driving in the community, then we’d love to hear from you.
You can report missed collections online via the ‘My Bin Hasn’t Been Collected’ feature on our website”

A shortage of drivers has been caused partly by other companies offering more money. Other companies are short of drivers due to a backlog of HGV driving tests but also because some European drivers have chosen to leave because securing settled status post Brexit was too difficult.

Most people would have the nous to realise that benefits from Brexit would not be instant but take a few years. No point bringing up all this criticism now. If there is something to say in a few years time - it would then be valid.

It's really odd that all the leaders of the Leave campaigns didn't have the nous to realise that benefits from Brexit would 'take a few years'. They were promising instant benefits.

It's only after they'd sucked in the suckers and got their Brexit that they started to change their tune.

Pathetic. Au contraire, we members of the remain gang had the nous to realise this was going to be the biggest economic and social catastrophe that any civilised country imposed on itself by choice. Your silly comments say much about how you voted and why

Who made you the thread police "gangy5".

You are obviously all seriously consumed by the fact that you lost the Brexit vote.

I don't think so. We are "seriously consumed" by the lack of democracy. We are "seriously consumed" by those who took us out being idiots who are unable to make an agreement with Europe that works meaning we are all worse off, and "seriously consumed" by some of the infantile, ignorant reasons for voting us out too.

Our garden waste hasn’t been collected fir 5 weeks. Apparently the whole of Kent is the same, We are charged extra for this but there is little we can do, so will await refund! Asif!

NotSpaghetti Fri 13-Aug-21 16:20:17

What a mess Jane

JaneJudge Fri 13-Aug-21 15:38:34

I may have the wrong thread, so apologies if I have but our waste collections have been disrupted and the council blamed isolation of staff due to covid 19. Now it seems garden waste wont be collected at all for the foreseeable future. This is the explanation they have given to one of our town councillors. I just thought people might be interested;

It also seems the Council has changed its tune as it has now admitted that isolation is no longer the issue and has provided a statement which blames the continuing issues on Brexit saying "Brexit has reduced the availability of both skilled and unskilled workers and this is impacting FCC’s ability to secure qualified drivers in particular." It went on to say that "As a sector, waste services have been historically reliant on agency staff but even this route is problematic as agencies are also facing the same challenges." and also blamed "the substantial backlog of outstanding LGV tests due to COVID and recent changes to the HMRC rules concerning individual limited companies (IR35), all leading to a reduction in the number of qualified LGV drivers available."
Which is frustrating for the contractor (FCC) but residents who have paid their Council Tax and expect a service might argue the contractor should have done more to prepare for this.
The council says the contractor "are exploring ways to improve staff availability" which include "reviewing pay and conditions for drivers and developing new ways to attract people into the waste sector"

Oh, I don't know, gangy5. Some anti EU folks bleated about it for 40+ years. Did you regularly b*llock them for it?

He said that he never said it - which was true of course, it was a government slogan. But he kept very quiet about it during the campaign because it suited him.
