“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

Farrer & Co considers itself a "full-service" firm for the British elite and "HNW" (high net worth) crowd, offering financial, legal, public relations and other services. One of those services provided for RF & Prince Andrew this week was this: Lawyers acting for the queen wrote to major British newspapers warning them against taking or publishing pictures of the royals at Balmoral the same day that Andrew arrived there.

Leah McGrath Goodman
Interestingly, Farrer & Co's Julian Pike is listed on a trust with Prince Andrew, Duke of York As a journalist, I would like to ask, how many others at Farrer & Co have financial ties to the
@RoyalFamily
even as Farrer & Co does PR for the Queen and her kids?

I don’t get the relevance of this , but don’t bother to explain it to me, I’d rather stay blissfully ignorant grin

I am puzzled by ‘one of services provided for RF & Prince Andrew’

When was Andrew adopted ?

Afghanistan is collapsing.
Haiti has had their president assassinated, they suffered an earthquake and a tropical storm.
We are trying to get over the worst pandemic in 100 years.
Climate change is accelerating and we won't act to stop it.
We are governed by possibly the worst government in our living memory.

But the fastest growing thread in "News and Politics" is whether an entitled pair have upset their entitled granny. Light relief I suppose.

Alegreas So very true and sad. Does seem as if people are trying desperately, to avoid such issues as they are all so extremely disturbing - and find solace in discussing some other family's problems.

Smileless2012 Sat 21-Aug-21 10:06:00

"Light relief" for me. I tend to discuss more serious world events with Mr. S. and family and friends rather than here on GN.

I don't agree that the interest shown in this thread is "sad", we're free to discuss what we choose and shouldn't be judged for choosing lighter topics.

maddyone Sat 21-Aug-21 10:10:20

Well world events are not worrying Harry too much either. Yesterday he apparently used a friend’s private plane to fly to and from a polo match which was a two hour flight away.
Shall we discuss climate change maybe?

Yet another republican link

MawBe Sat 21-Aug-21 10:24:21

It is the sheer hypocrisy which sticks in the craw.
Fair enough, play polo if you have nothing better to spend your millions on, but stop pretending it is some sort of “charity work” and don’t lecture us, the poor bloody infantry about “saving the planet” from your private jet.
(Equally applicable to all celebs with similar tendencies! )

I think that’s the case for most posters ?

wise words meryl and smileless and franbern
'and find solace in discussing some other family's problems'

its strangely comforting to know that other families have their black sheep or rogues

i think if you say you have the perfect offspring you are either very fortunate or lying

i may have called my tribe a few names to friends in rl but would never criticise them on gn so maybe harry and meg fill that little gap

yes this is far more important maddyone

1. the use of the private jet for a fancy flight

2. harry still yearning for elitist royal past times like playing polo

but hang on he doesnt like being royal

Anniebach Sat 21-Aug-21 10:49:25

The same old - his age

well said mawbe

Mollygo Sat 21-Aug-21 11:22:12

These private flights really irritate me, especially when the fliers, royal or not, pontificate about climate change.
I’m glad I’m not famous, but that’s why I will never admit to flying off on holiday given the chance, and regularly driving from one end of the country to the other just to see family and friends or booking a helicopter flight for my poorly sister’s bucket list present.
They’d do better to keep schtum and risk them inventing what he might have said.

eazybee Sat 21-Aug-21 11:39:35

I saw the photograph of the polo match and it answered my very silly question-- do they play polo in the USA?
How could I not know, I have watched Pretty Woman dozens of times.

My capacity for discussion is not limited.
We've also discussed many other issues this week in our family.

There are some issues I can help with, do something about, others are beyond the scope of my ability to change.

Callistemon Sat 21-Aug-21 12:23:45

I have, in the main, avoided threads about Afghanistan on here - why would want to discuss such a very emotive subject people I don't know?

I think Harry needs rescuing. Can't we send in the SAS or something?

Yes, she married an Argentinan polo player, Hector Barrantes if my memory serves me correctly. She left the family for him, the girls stayed with Dad, Ron.

The fact he was Argentinian raised a few eyebrows when Fergie married Andrew as it was not too long after the Falklands war.

Calendargirl Sat 21-Aug-21 12:33:48

No sign of Meghan or the children at the polo match.

To relocate him to a remote part of the world? Easter Island?
