“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

But the Queen doesn’t lecture us all about poverty and deprivation Alegrias which is the difference between her and her GDIL.

I seem to remember that Harry used his dread of having to go and do the usual royal duties was part of the reason for him fleeing to America. So what has changed? Not to mention the hypocrisy of lecturing about climate responsibilities then flying home in a private jet. I could go on about Herself and her outfits and jewellery going on about poverty but why bother? You couldn’t make it up.

Not like our own dear Queen, eh? She'd never wear expensive clothes and jewellery thoughtlessly when people in "her" country were suffering deprivation and poverty.

They were quite a bit shorter - that's when tights came in!

Meghan’s white mini dress looks like a 70’s bridal outfit.

I had one like that too Callistemon. I never did suit that length sleeve though!

I was quite a lot slimmer in those days too!

Actually, I made myself a white dress like that in the 1960s when mini skirts came in.
My friend like it so much she asked me to make her one as well grin

Pity Harry lives in America, he could be in Strictly Come Dancing. I read that this years celebrities are D list celebs.

Deedaa Mon 27-Sept-21 12:09:01

Do they really think that giving a speech about vaccination being a human right to a crowd in New York is going to have any effect? Will politicians and pharma companies be getting together and saying "Oh well if Harry and Meghan say so..."? If Harry had stayed in the Royal family he might have had more contact with world leaders and had more chance of working for change than he has as a celeb.

Josianne Mon 27-Sept-21 12:06:33

shame all people are talking about is the mustard when so much more interesting things about Prince Phillip were told

I agree, but shame PW, Zara and Peter all had to bring up the comment in what was a very short programme.

I agree, it seems to be what anti-monarchists will fixate on though!!

Josianne Mon 27-Sept-21 11:25:18

What Sparklefizz? Do dressing gowns really cost that much, not forgetting the white nightlife. grin

Sparklefizz Mon 27-Sept-21 11:17:36

M's 3-day wardrobe apparently amounted to $75,000 +. I have also read that Harry was wired to a mic, so there are suspicions that this was being filmed for Netflix.

I don't know. They were shown meeting the Mayor and other dignitaries, visiting the Nine 11 site and photographed with the dignitaries, visiting a school and other places etc. Just like a royal tour.

Your last sentence says it all maddyone.

Harry and Meghan appear to be doing a royal tour of New York according to the news.

H & M visited a school where 97% of the children need free school dinners, yet she didn't dress down - she wore an outfit apparently costing $7,500 and was dripping with jewellery. Thoughtless imo.
