Anyone else rooting for Pen and his animals ?

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 11:54:15

I have always rehomed dogs mostly people who could no longer keep them. They are more characterful.
I just hate the thought of people going to Disneyland or buying a flashy car on the proceeds of a litter of Puppies.

And the breeders looked like Roald Dahl's Twits.

Quote of the day!

But yes, it does seem more common than we know (the puppy farming) I know a couple of people who have sympathy bought a puppy from such people and they've been riddled with worms and pathetic looking creatures sad

I have only ever had rescue dogs too

You and me both Whatdayasit. What a dreadful experience you had. I have only ever had stray or rescue pets. I don’t support people who sell pets.

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 07:24:42

It is awful Callistemon.
In 2008 I found a tiny chihuahua at the side of the road. I contacted the local police left my number and had it for an hour. I thought it was a family pet.
When the owners contacted me I took the puppy back. The kitchen had 30+ puppies and the breeders said to me you can have it for £300.
I don't believe in buying dogs. I left very upset at the sight. They go for about £1200 now. I just find it appalling.

Callistemon Fri 27-Aug-21 23:27:39

There are still puppy farms operating whatdayisit, my friend's dog was a puppy rescued from one such disgusting place. The poor mother was found a kind home too.

Whatdayisit Fri 27-Aug-21 23:23:34

And I wish some Government would make tighter restrictions on dog breeding. It's time people stopped making money in their living rooms from puppies.

welbeck Fri 27-Aug-21 23:22:25

why didn't he, animals and staff etc leave weeks ago ?

Whatdayisit Fri 27-Aug-21 23:21:46

I do too Callistemon. I feel it's the most terrible mess I have ever witnessed because our countries are responsible for it.

Callistemon Fri 27-Aug-21 23:16:46

Whatdayisit

I passed a baby badger killed on the road this morning and that just finished me off. I keep thinking about there scared, trusting little faces in the crates.
Obviously I know every single being waiting at the airport is desperate but the dumb animals can only trust and wait.
I don't know how Pen will cope if he hasn't been able to achieve what he set out to do.

I'm fine with him bringing his dogs and cats here, although we have more than enough abandoned ones here already, their scared and trusting little faces gazing out from cages in dog and cat homes in the UK.

However, it's the scared little faces of the children that I find devastating. Poor mites.

Won’t they have to go into quarantine for six months? I doubt if they have pet passports.

My thoughts too.
Have the quarantine facilities here got sufficient room?

Zoejory Fri 27-Aug-21 23:01:03

I was wondering about that Ladyleftfieldlover

Saw this on the Government website

You can enter or return to Great Britain with your pet cat, dog or ferret if it:

has been microchipped
has a pet passport or health certificate
has been vaccinated against rabies - it will also need a blood *test if you’re travelling from an country that is not ‘listed’
Dogs must also usually have a tapeworm treatment.

Your pet may be put into quarantine for up to 4 months if you do not follow these rules - or refused entry if you travelled by sea. You’re responsible for any fees or charges.

So if Pen has done all of the above, quarantine isn't required.

Zoejory Fri 27-Aug-21 22:42:46

The staff wanted him to go. They will be a lot safer now that he's gone and taken the dogs with him. Dogs are reviled by many over there.

They are going to try to sort out evacuation for the staff.

Oh and the dogs and cats all have homes organised.

Alegrias1 Fri 27-Aug-21 22:42:45

JE, you're just sounding increasingly ridiculous.

Thanks for the update Zoejory flowers

JenniferEccles Fri 27-Aug-21 22:38:18

Actually you couldn’t make it up could you?

He flies home with 200 animals yet leaves his staff behind.?

JenniferEccles Fri 27-Aug-21 22:35:07

200 you say? Ye gods, I didn’t realise it was that many.

All needing to be found homes of course, along with all the other unwanted animals here already in shelters.

Could be worse I guess, he could have been bringing back 200 alpacas.

Sorry. I know an awful lot of people are desperately concerned about the fate of the famous alpaca.

Zoejory Fri 27-Aug-21 22:24:58

Well he's been in touch with his wife and has been able to bring the 200 cats and dogs with him. Devastated at leaving the staff but they were all encouraging him to leave.

JenniferEccles Fri 27-Aug-21 22:02:33

I feel sorry for his neighbours if they are.

lemongrove Fri 27-Aug-21 21:51:01

Hope the pets aren’t just his personal pets?

lemongrove Fri 27-Aug-21 21:49:03

If the Americans won’t let him through his argument is lost so no one is to blame here please stop arguing the toss of who said what to who and when etc etc etc.
The whole debarkle is very sad.

It's NOT the Americans stopping him It was the Taliban.

For goodness sake, the amount of misinformation on this thread is horrendous.

It certainly is.
Reminds me of the Monty Python film Holy Grail, the characters in the tower who can’t understand they have to stay there....We’re coming with you!
I hope he gets out with his staff and animals but have had a bad feeling about it since I first heard of their plight.

I hope his staff managed to get out too and some animals, this story and how people have reacted to it negatively has really upset me

LondonMzFitz Fri 27-Aug-21 19:58:29

I saw the tweet too from the MOD Press Office. They say Pen and his "pets" which makes me think it might be his two personal dogs and the one that belongs to his Norwegian wife. I had another weep and went for a lie down.

Maudi Fri 27-Aug-21 19:41:34

Wonderful news, let's hope its true.
