I am just watching the debate on Afghanistan and must admit to being absolutely astounded to see that Johnson has had a proper haircut. I wonder if that means that he is going to take his job seriously .

grin gets things right
as if.

What he looks like is irrelevant, it’s what he does that matters. Would we rather he looked suave and sophisticated like some but were inept and governed by hindsight. I’m not saying he gets things right before the inevitable pile on, just that his appearance isn’t the be all and end all. Just my opinion.

I always though the dishevelled look was an attempt to cover up the fact that his hair was thinning a bit. Has he had a weave???

If he has then he should demand a refund ?

Blossoming Tue 07-Sept-21 16:21:54

Looks like the beginning of a Trump-style combover.

Sarnia Tue 07-Sept-21 15:30:06

He couldn't have looked much worse, could he?

While looking smart is not a guarantee of competence, with very few exceptions (mad scientists) someone who always looks a mess and seems constantly in chaos, is rarely competent.

NotSpaghetti Tue 07-Sept-21 07:58:44

I don't care how he looks to be honest. It doesn't reflect how effective and competent someone is - but I would like him to "step up" to be honest. As MayBee70 said, he could start with answering questions in parliament.

No one said anyone had to look the same, but for someone in a high profile public role to deliberately foster a look which shows disrespect for that role - appearance which would get you continually reprimanded for if you were a secondary school student - untucked shirt, tie not done up properly , unkempt hair, then I think it worthy of comment. It shows a lack of effort and a lazy attitude which possibly mirrors his attitude to his work.

...and still only a handful wearing face masks...

NotTooOld Mon 06-Sept-21 22:42:20

Oh, leave him alone. Why this obsession for everyone to look the same?

Callistemon Mon 06-Sept-21 22:41:44

Callistemon Mon 06-Sept-21 22:39:23

Tomasz Schafernaker has had a haircut too!
Looking so much better, Tomasz

Perhaps the lockdown ungroomed look is passè now

MayBee70 Mon 06-Sept-21 22:21:12

The Speaker said he wanted everyone to look smart when parliament resumed so maybe it was in response to that. Now perhaps the Speaker will attempt to a) get him to actually answer questions and b)answer them truthfully #i’mnotholdingmybreath

This is what was printed in “India today “

Callistemon Mon 06-Sept-21 21:40:03

hair cut with a knife and fork which reminds me, having looked in the mirror, I must make an appointment at the hairdresser's.
?‍♀️

NotSpaghetti Mon 06-Sept-21 20:57:49

Oh Gill!

GillT57 Mon 06-Sept-21 20:08:01

I shall look tonight and see if there is a difference. He is a disgrace usually, hair cut with a knife and fork, wearing a suit with all the style and panache of a burst sofa. Compare him to Trudeau and Macron and it is embarrassing. As for a new squeeze, I don't think he would dare.......but maybe he has been inspired by seeing Gove throwing shapes on the dance floor....grin

Framilode Mon 06-Sept-21 19:59:42

He had a haircut but still didn't manage to tuck his shirt in. When he pushed his jacket back a bit his shirt was untucked over his bum.

I heard today that he spent the weekend at Balmoral with the Queen so maybe he was encouraged to tidy himself up. Not before time in my humble opinion.

That will be it!!

And going back to skool.

NotSpaghetti Mon 06-Sept-21 19:43:12

"Reaction" says he may be getting ready to assert authority in a reshuffle.
They also say:

Boris is obsessed with what voters are saying and when they’re saying he looks terrible then action is required, even from Britain’s scuffiest man. Even his fans could not fail to spot that on a recent trip out mid-Afghan crisis, he sported unkempt hair that was worse than ever. He looked like a shellshocked Michael Heseltine after an accident with a lawnmower.

loopyloo Mon 06-Sept-21 19:42:11

Yes I bet that's the Balmoral haircut!

Devorgilla Mon 06-Sept-21 19:31:55

TopsyIrene06, I think you've got it bang to rights. Perhaps the Queen sent him a new comb especially for the occasion. A bit like Queen Elizabeth 1 who told a returning self exile when, after many years, he reappeared at court, that she had forgot the fart. Or.....he's preparing for an election.

This proves that the tousled scruff look was an affectation.

Of course it was/is.
He messes it up on purpose.
