I would also like to add that everything around, from bus services to shops to eateries was also clearly severely impacted by lack of workforce!

I've just spent 5 days on a campsite based on a Pick-your-Own fruit farm, but they had to remain closed for 4 of the 5 days "due to staff shortages".

A bit too flippant as far as the very elderly are concerned Bluebelle. My parents are in their nineties, and too vulnerable to adapt as you put it. We children will help out with their gas bills and food so they will manage, but not all have families to help them, and very elderly people on their own don’t move much, so even with extra layers of clothing they will not all survive, particularly if it’s a harsh winter.

If it’s a very cold winter I ll put extra clothes on and up my hot water bottles if they don’t have my favourites on the shelves I ll buy something different
We all knew Brexit would bring this about and now ?perhaps the Brexiteers will understand more too ….add to that Covid lockdowns and you can see where we are heading but there is no point in getting upset or worried over it

I’ve seen no shortages here in the south of England and food deliveries have been complete.
Might buy an extra ticket in the pub meat draw, just in case ?

We had our 3-4 weekly grocery delivery today and there were no missing items although they had substituted a different brand of crumpets (but given me an extra packet as compensation).

I wonder how much of this is scaremongering by the media? Today they are saying that in less than two weeks there will be shortages of meat due to problems with the cost of CO2 which is used in the meat trade - not sure why it is necessary though! At first I thought oh dear, I eat a lot of meat as I’m not fond of vegetables so for about two seconds I wondering if I should buy extra this week. Then I realised I was being ridiculous, I don’t have a big freezer and mine is full now and anyway, I won’t starve if I cannot have as much meat!

But if other people read the newspapers today and now start stockpiling meat then that will create shortages, thus proving these articles correct!

Yes I think you are right Alegraise1, I was being generous with their intellect saying they were lying and self serving.

I find it more scary that they are incompetent than any of the other things Barmeyoldbat. If they were lying and self serving, at least I'd think they knew what was going on, and that eventually somebody with a conscience would pop up amongst them. But I do actually think that they are just completely incompetent and couldn't run a p***up in a brewery, And we're stuck with them during the biggest crises that most of us will ever see.

All I can say is it is going to be a hard winter for many, and the government is lucky it has COVID to blame instead of Brexit and the incompetent, lying, self serving politicians who are running the country.

I didn’t laugh or cry just felt and enormous rage at the lies that people believed and are still clinging into.

I just watched the video too and I seriously thought that someone had put that together after the event, somebody anti-Brexit, being sarcastic. But no, it seems it was a real campaign video.

I don’t think CS gas is at issue though is it? Isn’t it what the French (and other nationalities) police spray at rioters?
