Well I'm from a working class background but please Angela Rayner having a go at Raab did herself and Labour no favours.

Rayner’s rant shows that the Labour Party only wants to appeal to its more extreme elements (Momentum) and is not interested in learning from its latest electoral defeat - that it needs to attract much wider public support if it is to get back to power.

Yes I agree with you Urmstongran

She was of course talking down to those she hoped it would appeal too.

Meanwhile we waste out time on social networking complaining! not much else we can do ayse really until we go into a ballot box. At least Boris can be voted out at the next GE if that’s what a majority want. Even if it’s slim at 52/48% it would happen!!
?

Lucca I will come back to you later. I’m in a dash this morning!

We were at the tip one day and one of the workers there referred to a couple who were tipping things as scum. Apparently this poor couple did house clearances and brought stuff that was no good to the tip.
Husband and I were baffled as to why doing this made the tip workers label them as scum. We thought if they were scum they would be fly tipping and not using the tip.
If they were fly tipping we would call them scum ourselves.
So yes I would use the word scum to refer to some people. Is it a northern word or a working class word or even a word used by the generation who were brought up on Ben Elton and Alexei Sayle comedy?
Personally I call this Government scum on a daily basis if only for the way they voted against helping to feed poor kids in the pandemic.

*The Labour Party hate Britain? That’s a fact is it ?*

I tried to elucidate Lucca but seem to be failing! I meant to illustrate they hate the British faction who don’t swoon over their claptrap.
?

But you said “they hate Britain”. Quite clear.

What claptrap and what “faction” ?

It occurs to me that 'scum' is a label which many posters would not hesitate to attach to someone like a rip off tradesman, a thief, a swindler or similar so long as they are 'lower class'. Yet they object to the same epithet being applied to a government whose corruption, lies and cheating entirely justify its use.

It's forelock tugging deference, isn't it?

Exactly, MaizieD

Absolutely

I probably didn’t express myself well ayse. Sorry. I meant they hate Britain because we don’t subscribe to their wokery (Keir Starmer’s views on who has a cervix for instance: clue .. it’s not just women. Gah!) and the fact that Labour love the EU yet the Referendum five years ago showed most of us don’t!

52% to 48% or thereabouts, I seem to remember in reference to the EU. We spend far too much time devoted to workery etc. and not enough debating general societal issues such as global warming, poverty, health, education….

Government should be there to ensure the well-being of the people. See Thomas Paine for his expose in the 1700s.

There is a deal wrong with both the EU and the governance of this country, now in crisis. I’m so p*s**d off with the continual inability of out government to govern. Sound bites is all they and the media are capable of. Meanwhile we waste out time on social networking complaining!

Casdon Sun 26-Sept-21 22:49:54

It’s not okay to call anybody scum. I never would, would you?

Yes, thank you Grumpa . I thought there were more old Etonians than that

Atqui Sun 26-Sept-21 22:40:16

But , what do I know?

Anniebach Sun 26-Sept-21 22:35:38

Thank you grumppa I didn’t know how many of the cabinet
went to Eton.

She must have been referring to more than the government.

Atqui Sun 26-Sept-21 22:34:08

Does BJ s ill judged comment about letterboxes / nicab/ burka make him a racist? To me this clothing is just an example of female subjugation .Are we racist if we abhor the way the Taliban treats women?

It would be very interesting to know what proportions of Labour were 'remain and 'leave' in 2016- and how many are now- for sure.

It was somewhere in the region of 66% Remain to 33% Leave.

It would appear to be straightforward choice for Labour to promote rejoining the Single Market.

What complicates it is that many if the red wall seats that Labour needs to get back are in over all Leave voting areas.

grumppa Sun 26-Sept-21 22:17:01

It is hard to tell how far AR’s comments were directed against Conservative MPs in general, the Cabinet, or just Boris. But on a point of fact, JaneJudge, the only Old Etonian member of the Cabinet apart from the PM is Kwasi Kwarteng. Rees-Mogg, a quintessential OE, attends Cabinet meetings but is not a member.

I mention this solely in the interests of accuracy. I should make it clear that I have never voted Conservative, and am not an Old Etonian, though I did work there as a supply teacher for a couple of weeks in 1963.

That’s what this Labour Party need to do, but they won’t, because they hate Britain and it’s people, for rejecting its wokery and its beloved EU.

They don’t hate Britain! What a strange thing to say!

However, I do agree with you about Blair. He was rather like Boris in many ways. All charm, a man of the people and totally unscrupulous.

I prefer politicians that speak their mind. Thatcher and May are excellent examples of those with principles. Not mine but preferable to those who say what people want to hear.

There is far too much dishonesty in politics. No wonder so many people are disenchanted and fail to vote.

Urmstongran Sun 26-Sept-21 21:07:29

She is Starmer's stand-in. She is Starmer/Biden's Kamala Harris.

But Rayner is money in the bank; votes in the ballot box for the Conservatives. Her rant was just to curry favour with the Party faithful at their Conference.

Keir Starmer says ‘he will deal with her later’. Ooh, bet she’s quaking in those Doc Marten boots (love them actually!). She has chutzpah in spades. Last time he took her to task, she ended up with more titles and responsibilities!

Urmstongran Sun 26-Sept-21 21:04:07

Blair boxed Prescott (2 Jags) off. He was the union dinosaur of his Cabinet.

Galaxy Sun 26-Sept-21 20:59:20

Actually Prescott was a really important part of New Labour, anyone who doesnt understand that, doesn't really understand what Blair was doing or why he won.

Petera Sun 26-Sept-21 20:56:05

eazybee

We cannot get any worse than a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, mysoginistic, absolute pile …of banana republic…Etonian…piece of scum.
Not blunt. Dangerous accusations to make.

Which of the accusations is dangerous?

JaneJudge Sun 26-Sept-21 20:55:47

I don't really think of Angela as woke at all confused
