Yes, I think it means accepting that we have left the EU on the the terms agreed by BJ. Sadly I think its pie in the sky to imagine that the EU will renegotiate but you never know. However, regardless of that we need to just get on and make the best of what we have and that takes strategy, which I don't feel we have at the moment. Everything seems to be done "on the hoof" and that's not good enough is it?

We are no longer a part of the EU. I don't think anyone is gainsaying that.

However, I think our trade agreement with the EU must be properly negotiated so that it works. We don't have one that works in any real way, do we?. It's a mess. I do not mean going back to where we were but just making it function, We need to be able to carry out trade with our nearest neighbours without switching off all the boarder actions that keep us safe.

Johnson had three words not a plan and legally "leaving" somewhere does not mean you shouldn't do everything you can to make life work for this country.

So we have got (so a talking head says on BBC News) that KS is saying getting over the narrative:

I am a sensible person with a clear plan. Johnson is a trivial person with no plan

He also said they need to demonstrate that where Labour is already in power - Mayors and Wales - they are coming in under budget and over performing to build trust with the finance.

What is "woke culture" in your world? Woke means "alert to injustice in society, especially racism" so why would you, or anyone else think that is a bad thing? Just throwing the word "woke" around tells us nothing.

PS I doubt that the EU will renegotiate anything with the UK at the moment because there has been too much antagonism displayed by the UK. Given time I think that the EU will be amenable to negotiations - not for us to rejoin per se but as regards trade deals and it would be good to see freedom of movement for artists and musicians etc.

Where I live in France there are many music festivals during the summer months and usually there are many bands who come and tour the music venues. They were sorely missed this year. We also used to get small touring theatrical groups performing Shakespeare, in English, the audiences for which were mainly French.

foxie48 we have to make Brexit work because otherwise we are "up s--t creek without a paddle". I suspect that it would be easier with KS as PM rather than Johnson, who appears not to be very popular with the world in general.

Well, it is in fact Johnson who is asking for so aspects to be reversed and some not to be implemented for some time - strangely enough!

Scones - it depends on how people are defining it and how it is done. 1 find much of the woke ideology racist and sexist against white males mostly. Other ideas like the kier Starmer saying it was wrong to say 'women have a cervix' is just biologically wrong.

But this thread is for talk about the Labour conference in general and its being derailed into for or against woke. Yes I brought it up because that's my opinion. If they win an election I'll eat my hat.

As people possibly know I am gender critical and just yesterday I was yet again leaving the labour party because of David lammy remarks on the issue of women's rights. But I didn't because as important as I think the issue is, and as much as the display of misogyny drives me to despair, thousands and thousands of people died due to Johnsons failures during the pandemic. Johnson needs not to be running this country and the labour party are the best hope of that happening.

I have just seen a journalist complaining about the number of words Starmer used, as opposed to Boris winning elections on three words. I rather think that would explain why we are in the mess we are in now.

All I can say is there is an audience for a well-explained programme and one for a three-word chant. You pays your money and takes your choice; it's probably not hard to guess who goes where.

If you are referring to the Daily Politics journo, he was talking about how few people will watch or read the whole speech and that a few snappy phrases will be needed to social media.
