Her poor husband, Richard, clearly at desperation stage, is 17 days into his hunger strike. It seems the Iranians will not discuss anything about this case until £400m which is owed to them by the UK is paid. For heaven's sake pay the debt and let this lady come home to her husband and daughter. Is there no compassion for anyone any more?

Susie 42 's post is the truth of the matter, and only a fool would believe that if the money they claim is owed was paid to them this action would stop; they would simply find another victim.

Even if we were to pay them, I doubt they'd release her, anyway. And the government will not agree to any payment, because the deal was with the then Shah, who was deposed by the Islamist regime, which our successive governments have deemed makes the agreement null and void.

And if we did pay and they did release her, they'd find another Western hostage. Iran doesn't see itself simply as a regional power, they are actively trying to expand their influence, and this is all part of their game.

When religion is used for a political agenda, the absolutism becomes immoveable.

I can't see her ever being released all she can hope for is house arrest then at least she can see and speak to her husband and daughter over the Internet. My heart breaks for her and her poor husband on hunger strike. It's a cruel world we live in.

I believe also that she is in contact with her husband and daughter via FaceTime or equivalent.
No substitute for actually being with them of course.

You are right. However, the article I read said she could be returned to prison at any time when the Iranians feel like it. The not knowing must be unbearable. Poor family.

Nazanin’s sentence ended in April 2021 and her ankle tag was removed. However, a week later she was put back on trial and convicted of a fresh charge with a one-year prison sentence.

In October 2021, Nazanin lost her appeal against her second prison sentence - a sentence that could begin at any time.

No her imprisonment on trumped up charges by a vicious , terrorist backing regime, is entirely their responsibility , yes Iran. They have other dual nationals imprisoned also. Now they are threatening us not to make it political, the Government also requested to be present at her trial, this was denied. Iran didn’t need an idiot to make it worse, they did that themselves. What do you want, to start a war over this, because if we went in that is what would happen. How many times, Iran does not recognise dual nationality, we have no power over them. They will do as they please, whatever we say.

Whilst we may not have any "power" over them, they are not holding her for fun. They want something, goodness knows what. Maybe it's just to make the UK look powerless, I don't know. But we need to be talking to them properly. We need to be negotiating. But we're not very good at that are we? As long as nobody takes it into their head to send Frost.

We don’t know how they are talking though, do we . This has been going on since 2016, Cameron’s premiership. Can you really negotiate with terrorists.

I think its fair to say that we don't know how much is going on behind the scenes, but I do really think if there was anything tangible going on Mr Radcliffe would know about it. He's certainly astute enough to know that if there was any negotiations going on at all, he wouldn't jeopardise that by drawing attention to the situation.

And yes, I'm afraid we do have to negotiate with them, or she will die in prison. Unpalatable as it is, they're not terrorists, they are a sovereign nation.

Well in the case of Terry Waite and the others, was one Brian Keenan, and the other John McCarthy, if I remember correctly, anyway it was negotiation that eventually secured the release of them all. I think negotiation has got to be the way forward.

I wonder if the cruel people who keep her in captivity realise that they are depriving her of having any more children. Or is that part of the plan ?
