Is this a humiliation for Glasgow? ?

Strikes by binmen, piles of rubbish (and rats) in the streets, road-blocking protests and hotel rooms priced at £1,400 a night set to cast shadow over UN Climate Change Conference which starts on 31 October. Maybe it’s a ‘trick’ for Halloween ?

What Petera said. The OP was unnecessary and provocative.

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 18:23:10

No need I’ve looked .Can’t find them.

Marydoll Thu 21-Oct-21 18:22:20

Me too*Granniesunite*. I'm also trying to find the overly combative comments made by the Scots.

Blossoming Thu 21-Oct-21 18:20:10

Allegrias ‘twas ever thus. Hurty feels, though no malice intended.

Urmstingran I’ve quite enjoyed your thread, I’ve even got a GN meet-up to look forward to.

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 18:16:57

Even poor lucca got it in the neck for her observations…

I’m left wondering if I’ve read the wrong thread tbh.

Lucca

Why shouldn’t Alegrias Elegran and others reply to the goady OP and defend their country ?

This is where you make a mistake Lucca ....it’s not about their country, it’s about the problems with a city.
Had the climate change meeting been in say, Birmingham and that city had rubbish piling up etc then nobody, even those who live there would have neither denied it/denied it was a problem/made overly combative comments/ treated it as an outrageous attack on England. Why would anybody do that....
Yet that is what has happened here.Even without Elegran’s crass comments about Southend it’s an eye opening thread with the comments from Scottish posters.

Go to the top of the page and read the OP - then come back and tell us that she was not being deliberately and childishly provocative.

Shame on us who took the time to defend for being taken in – I for one will just be ignoring anything UG says from now on.

*GrannyGravy*, we do and there is much to show off about!

We were due to visit in August, unfortunately had to cancel as our travelling companions tested positive for Covid. Hopefully rescheduling for 2022.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 21-Oct-21 17:54:37

Just returned to GN (been to the cinema to see the latest James Bond, I can highly recommend it)

I would have thought that any City and it’s citizens wherever it be when hosting an extremely high profile international event would want to show off said City and it’s attributes in the best possible light.

Zoejory Thu 21-Oct-21 17:41:28

I"m sure it will all be fine!!

It just happens to be my city in my country the digs and opinions are aimed at from those who have neither been to Glasgow nor Scotland.
It is not about another UK country which I could no doubt find plenty to complain about but good manners stop me doing so when I am aware of the diversity on GM.

Alegrias1 Thu 21-Oct-21 17:26:02

I wasn't talking about paddyann's house.

Callistemon Thu 21-Oct-21 17:23:58

It's not snide.

I know paddyann is very house proud and I don't think they'll be sending delegates or any others to somewhere that is not up to standard.

Alegrias1 Thu 21-Oct-21 17:21:13

I love it that the Scots get called out for giving snide and touchy remarks, while a disinterested observer might think it was the comments about Scots were in that vein wink

Callistemon Thu 21-Oct-21 17:14:03

We're 18 miles outside of Glasgow and we've been asked to give rooms to two people who'll be here for COP26 ,there are a number using hotels on the lochside ,presumably we'll get their staff. All good. we've had folk from all over the world staying with us before and loved having them.I like to think they enjoyed being here too ,we certainly have a more than a few who kept in touch.

That sounds brilliant and very interesting, paddyann.

And I bet you'll clean your house from top to bottom before they come to stay!
(In fact, I know you will! If it needs it, that is.)

Quite!

Lucca

It's not to do with their country - it's a UK city which has current problems with Council staff which is due to host a United Nations Summit.

Thanks Urms, I haven't enjoyed a thread so much for ages. Probably didn't turn out, quite as you expected!

Hope you enjoyed that rib eye steak!

Petera, thank you for the clip!

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 16:40:00

Petra. brilliant thanks for that. Glasgow humour at its best .I’ll be playing that again.

Urmstongran Thu 21-Oct-21 16:34:55

You’ll be underwhelmed I’m sure Marydoll ?
After the hype on here anything I say will seem flat!

Marydoll

I didn't want to volunteer you Kalu, in case you felt put on the spot!

We have been talking about a coffee meet up at some point and being such a pushy besom, I decided to join you both. ?

I only hope some of the rats we are infested with stay away.
Time to call in the Pied Piper or should that be the Pie Eyed Piper?

Elegran. I understood your post for what it was. Why not move to a newly established city? Not intentionally insensitive in the least.

Marydoll Thu 21-Oct-21 16:22:27

I can't wait to hear your response, Urms. grin
