Apparently she was taken in yesterday with gastroenteritis. I do hope she's ok. I'm not a fanatical royalist but have a soft spot for the Queen and she's had a ghastly few years recently.

MaizieD you obviously don’t known that what was acceptable
when speaking about mental illness 200 years is in no way
acceptable now, it’s cruel , sadly there are still a minority who mock mental illness

OH, FGS! this is utterly ridiculous.

Don't bother to respond to me with any more stupid posts. I'm out...

And why the hell isn't Jabberwok getting it in the neck for using the bloody word in the first place?

Alegrias1 you did not apologise, you managed to say ‘not nice’, that is not an apology, and since when have you ‘drawn
the line’ for poster to abide to ?

You mock and taunt, why ?

I would suggest that you read that post again, Annieb. Alegrias at 11,35.

The very first word is 'Sorry'. I believe that is a commonly used word when making an apology?

JaneJudge Sat 23-Oct-21 16:13:17

Maybe it is worth considering that we don't know what is going on in other people's lives behind what we are told on here. I have had some pretty nasty, unsolicited comments directed towards me all over the board and I try to be fair. If someone apologises for a comment they have made, it is usually kind to accept that apology. I really dislike the passive aggressive comments directed towards people who are apparently 'sniping'. I care more about ordinary women than I do about Prince Charles.

Sorry - obviously being blind isn't a reason not to hold a position of authority and "mad" isn't a very nice word.

Get the pitchforks out folks, its time for a lynching.

I cannot believe that this spat is developing from a comment about a king who died 200 years ago and has always been characterised as being 'mad' shock

It did come over as your opinion and that you were agreeing. There was no indication that you were not except for the hasty apology that thought that calling people mad wasn’t “nice”.
I did call you out on that basis. I think we should protest attitudes of that kind.

Frankly I was stunned to see it coming from a poster who concerns herself with social justice and related issues.

But, as with unconscious racism, I do think that you revealed a, perhaps unconscious, attitude towards disability that needed to be challenged. Now either you can make another comment about my lack of manners or you can take an honest look at your comment and and just take a minute to ask yourself what actually lay behind your thought process.

It’s not a comfortable thing do but I do think it’s the only way forward. The ability of each individual to challenge themselves and their thinking.

WTF? It came over as if I was agreeing? Read it again.

What lay behind my thought processes? Disbelief that anyone could think it was a valid stance to expect people to carry on being head of state irrespective of their state of health or advanced age. You have no idea about my attitudes to anything, and pursuing this line of posting is showing you to be patronising and presumptuous. Do not presume to tell me that I need to examine my motives.

I am really, really insulted, more than by any of the dopey posts on here that try to show people up or start arguments. You've overstepped the line.

Oh don't worry JJ, this is a great thread for unfounded accusations.

Just thought I'd post this again.

Its like Groundhog Day.

Alegrias1 Sat 23-Oct-21 14:49:41

Sorry MaizieD, that was meant for the poster above you.

Thanks for the post.

Alegrias1 Sat 23-Oct-21 14:48:42

But not about good manners, it would seem.

MaizieD Sat 23-Oct-21 14:48:40

I realised that by quoting what someone else had posted, some people looking for an argument might think I thought the same way as them, and I wouldn't want that.

Let that be a lesson to you, Alegrias. Always make it absolutely plain that you are quoting from someone else's post and that you say who you are quoting. Because some people don't actually read the thread, they just look for things to get upset and judgey about. grin

Peasblossom Sat 23-Oct-21 14:45:49

No, none at all. Never even been there.

I do have a fair amount of knowledge about some peoples negative attitudes towards disability though.

BlueBelle Sat 23-Oct-21 14:39:09

I still wouldn’t want to live in a country where people with opinions like that were in charge.

I apologised, right after.

Keep up.

Yup, you realised it was a pretty awful thing to have posted.

No, but you can be miserable in comfort.

I haven't red the whole thread but she is 95 fgs if she wants to spend every day watching This morning followed by loose women, have a afternoon nap and follow it with four in a bed, I don't really give a shit tbh.

I don't feel sorry for Charles, he owns a whole village.

Ooh! That's a thought. I wonder which other three she'd choose! Good idea to have a nap first ;-)

The dorgies of course! grin

Of course! smile

Why is it that whatever is discussed on GN these days is always full of snipey comments? It makes differences of opinion impossible to discuss in a thoughtful way. No wonder people don't bother to join in any more.

Which are the “snipey comments “? Maybe you are referring to one which was deleted earlier in the thread …………?

JaneJudge Sat 23-Oct-21 13:06:21

The nap couldn't clash with antiques road trip, where unknown celebrities drive around a small area of the country in lovely cars buying things from antique shops and then polish them up and send them to auction where they make a loss. She would need a gin to watch that one.

They visited a place by me and I know FOR A FACT that the antiques expert they questioned is actually the CHEF in the restaurant.
