I forgot to add - another reason for the reversal is that Tory MPs are rather annoyed by the media round Patterson did yesterday. He's also blaming the investigation for his wife's suicide last year

I am tired GIllT57 of insulting derogatory hateful remarks. If people have a point to make fine and want to make a good argument that’s fine but resorting to insulting language is not. My predictive text keeps getting the name wrong. If we were referring to a BAME of LGBTQ+ in those terms we would quite rightly be banned.

I doubt very much if Owen Patterson would have been paid the fee he received if he hadn't been an MP. Cheap at the price since the company gained orders amounting to £132 million from he govt.

The good news is that there has been a U turn and there will be another vote on his suspension. Possibly it will be held just before the next recess so 30 days suspension won't mean a lot.

Many Tory MPs complaining about mail they've received and Peter Bone's office was vandalised by a disgruntled constituent.

27 Labour MPs didn't vote but before anybody gets upset - the reason was that they were paired with Tory MPs who couldn't vote for one reason or another.

My own (Conservative) MP is being publicly excoriated by his own supporters - and he didn’t even vote. People are truly incensed about this and I think it’s because it was such a blatant case of cronyism that it left rank and file members with no way of defending it. This from someone who is leaving the party:

I just deplore all the nasty names and hate on GN.

Think that they have been surprised by the reaction. However I am sure they are busy trying to circumvent the objections to achieve what they want.

Nothing to do with a possible by election I don’t suppose?! According to the BBC if an MP is suspended for 30 days which Patterson was then it can end up with a recall petition which could result in a by election.

Unless there were to be a "man in a white suit", there's not much chance of the Tories losing Paterson's seat. Even if they did, they still have a huge majority.

I have seen this morning that my MP has resorted to type and voted for this after redeeming himself, temporarily, by voting against the proposal to waive water standards and permit the dumping of untreated sewage in rivers. Time to email him again. Mind you, he holds the record for having to repay the largest amount of falsely claimed expenses during the MP's expenses scandal so I really should not be surprised. A few Tory supporters absent on this thread I notice, the ones who were the most vociferous in their condemnation of Angela Rayner's use of the word scum in particular. So, it's not a question of standards for some, it is just a matter of party. The word hypocrisy springs to mind
