Greta Thunberg is a Pain in the proverbial

Is it just me or is she increasingly coming across as a brat having a permanent tantrum.? She has no positive ideas, merely demands to stop doing just about everything while the media hangs on her every intemperate word? Blah blah blah…..

I don’t think that you know a great deal about ASD, lemongrove

?
Oh, if only you knew!
I know more than I ever wished to Fanny and that’s all I shall say.

I disagree FannyCornforth.

Although I think that Greta is courageous and I like to think that younger people will listen to her and act in positive ways, I do hope she will not burn out at some point.

Young people shouting that others need to do something is all very well but they are the generation that need to bring about change and to help others to change too.

"I'm just a kid, you figure it out" as in the advert is not a slogan that encourages young people to work towards better solutions. It put the onus on others while and many young people take for granted their comfortable lives.

I think Greta could have addressed the conference as invited.

It would be interesting to know what the offspring of those of you who are critical of Greta Thunberg do, or have done about climate change, or indeed some of the other problems facing the world right now.

Reading the comments of some of you on here I suspect that your offspring support your views.

Dinah....resorting to insults about posters offspring is not a good look from you.Leave the AC or DGC of GN posters out of it.

Kate1949 Sat 06-Nov-21 17:20:43

I said I find her irritating. That's not to say I don't admire her. I do. I would never, ever criticise anyone's appearance.

JaneJudge Sat 06-Nov-21 17:20:27

I find it a bit unbelievable my post was the only one deleted on this thread, so quickly too. Maybe it is nadine dorries

The many self-righteous claims along the lines of 'we were the green generation', lead me to believe that a lot of you are fooling yourselves.

You didn't walk to school because you were 'green' - you did it because you had no choice!

The coal fires that heated your houses weren't 'green', and nor was the central heating that almost all of you would have replaced it with once it became affordable.

How many of you have never had a car in the household as an adult? And if you didn't, how many of you can honestly say that that choice was made out of concern for the environment?

And do any of you remember how polluted our rivers used to be when we were young?

There are new threads here on Gransnet everyday that show that the environment is pretty low down in many of your minds, threads where the "if you want it and can afford it, go for it" attitude trumps environmental concerns every time.

Just to say how much I agree with the original post.
Yesterday Greta Thunberg's speech was rude and insulting to the people who do support climate change and are trying to facilitate it. 'Blah blah blah' indeed. She has been idolised in a ridiculous way for a young girl by adults who should know better, and we are now seeing the result.
With regard to litter droppers the people responsible are the people who drop it; I have watched primary school children, very eco-conscious, cheerfully give up lunch times to collect litter from dirty corners of the playground, only to see those same children several years later unwrap chocolate bars and hold the wrappers up to let them blow away in the breeze.
I have no idea what makes them change and abandon their principles.

No I can’t.
She’s put herself up as a political activist so she’s in the same camp as any other politician.
Just because people haven’t voted for her to represent them doesn’t mean she’s off limits.
The fact that nobody in the entire world has ever voted for her means I can criticise her even more.

Lucca Sat 06-Nov-21 17:08:38

This thread is really shocking. Such utter intolerance and narrow minded attitudes to a young person who has had the guts to “stand up and be counted”.
To comment negatively on her physical appearance is inexcusable.
She is only 18 and like it or not has had a profound influence on young people. Some posters should feel ashamed of themselves. Sickening.

Baggs

She's a terrified young woman who doesn't appear to have any belief in human ingenuity and ability to adapt. In a way I feel sorry for her and others like her. It can't be nice to feel so negative about the future.

She has Aspergers I believe, which means she only thinks in black and white, no grey areas.
She latched onto climate change when much younger and it became her obsession. If she hadn’t been ‘taken up’ by the media I think in time she may have gone onto another obsession, or become interested in a certain profession/job
As it is, this is what her life has become, this and only this.
As I see it, she may be being used and could become a rather dangerous figurehead to follow. She has no ideas ( which she admits) on practical steps and says that’s for world leaders.
It is....and that’s what COP 26 has all been about, leaders and negotiators actually trying to do something.Things cannot be completely reversed overnight and the whole world knows that. Encouraging a youthful following by shouting that the COP26 is all hypocrisy and blah blah etc will achieve nothing in the long run.Teenagers are idealistic and love a good demo but maybe will be pushed into angry acts by the negativity from her. What do we want? We want action NOW! Is always a good slogan but cannot be done in one easy act. There is action
From many countries and not a lot from the worst offenders,
But gradually they will be pushed into it by the rest of the world’s big players and not by angry teenagers.I really do understand why young people ( and older people too!) are worried and since it’s in nobody’s interest to plunge our planet into climate change chaos, can see that things will be accomplished to avoid catastrophe.

Love to see her having a go at Xi Jinping.
Bet he’d be shaking in his boots hmm

Well, she did. He didn't like it and thought the best way to respond was by telling lies about her and making fun of her appearance.

I wonder if he's on Gransnet?

Calmlocket

Not a very good role model for the younger generation in encouraging them to support climate change!

??

Can you genuinely not see the difference between people criticising Boris and criticising Greta Kandinsky?

Lucca Sat 06-Nov-21 16:56:50

timetogo2016

I feel exactly the same tidyskatemum.
She is a smug opinionated spoilt brat, who reminds me of an aggressive cabbage patch doll.

Nasty.

Kandinsky Sat 06-Nov-21 16:56:41

No it doesn’t, but people were complaining about this thread before that comment was posted.
I’ve seen far worse being said about Boris on here.

Calistemon Sat 06-Nov-21 16:51:46

Of course you can.
But it doesn't take courage.

Kandinsky Sat 06-Nov-21 16:49:48

Why can’t people criticise her?
Are we only allowed to criticise Boris on here?

Calistemon Sat 06-Nov-21 16:49:20

That took courage to post this thread tidyskatemum criticising Saint Greta. It did look as if some of the fame may have gone a wee bit to her head when she was with a group of young protesters. Difficult not to I suppose.

No, it didnt.

It's a thread started on a forum by an unknown person.

It takes courage to stand up in public and say what's needed and risk making yourself unpopular in the process.

Did any of you see her interview with Andrew Marr last week.
She was articulate and happy and responded politely to his questions.

Frankly, I fear the worst. The South American countries have 10 years to stop de-forestation. I don't understand quite why the delay because the forests will continue to be cut down right up to the last minute. Shell has agreed to make chances but they will only apply to their own business and not to their customers.

Whilst 40 countries have pledged to stop burning coal the largest coal dependent countries - Australia, China, America and India have not.

A group of 20 nations also pledged to stop all funding of fossil fuel projects abroad and divert about $8bn of spending to green energy instead from next year. However, China and Japan, two big funders of fossil fuel development around the world, shunned the initiative.

More than 90% of children around the world breathe toxic air today, with fossil-fuel burning largely responsible. Coal, oil and gas are responsible for 8.7 million premature deaths a year, one in five of all deaths.

Finally, for those of you who are critical of Greta Thunberg, try reading what other nations have to say about Johnson's performance at COP26
