Oh for goodness sake. Perhaps reading the whole sentence than just picking out certain pieces, may tell you what he really said, and in the proper context. Can’t abide people who use part of sentences to prop up an agenda.

I'm sure that there is, indeed, a lot of good stuff going on around the world. However, we live in a society that only tends to publicise the bad news.
Thats good to hear about India. I don't quite know why but I really like India. (I know its irrational of me!) Good luck to the dissemination of birth control.
I wonder what will happen in the Middle East when there's no interest in buying their oil?

There are too many of us and the only way to remedy that is if women have fewer children. Whilst birth control is available in the west, there no longer seems to be any urgency in ensuring birth control is available everywhere. Or am I wrong?

They are doing an awful lot Re birth control.
It’s not all bad.
There’s a lot of good stuff going on around the world. You just have to look for it instead of the usual mainstream channels.

There was a program on Eden Monday evening: 7.7 billion and counting. Chris Packham was the presenter.
As stated on that program the figures show that the tide is turning Re world population.
It’s not available on catch-up but might be on YouTube.

No they like a large population because there is more demand for things and more money for those who control the large companies. We are being manipulated. I often wonder what will happen to the oil producing countries when we stop using oil.

One aspect of this that I haven't heard discussed is the question of world population growth. Eg to take one African country Malawi, it had a population in 1950 of 2.9 million. It's now projected to have a population of 45 million by 2050. That's just one country. 45 million more consumers of what seem to be rapidly reducing resources. China had a very harsh population growth policy which has led to a huge overpopulation of males. Will other countries dare to risk strict population control? Seems unlikely.

Gillt57 Yes you have a good point - I do know some scientists who are also environmentalists but trying to secure funding, it's better not to shout too much about issues on the peripheral.I

Greta does have a place in the scheme of things if it makes us feel uncomfortable, so be it.
If she looks angry - so would I, if I knew by the time I was 40 life would be ......

I wasn't being silly. That was me, genuinely saying that I had taken on board what was said and am now trying to be more open minded and live and let live.

That was a bit of a bashing the other day and am just trying to show I listened and to continue to enjoy Gransnet.

I was trying to be the opposite of silly and rejoin the conversation. To be met by a stone cold "Don't be silly" has made me wonder if it's worth bothering again.

What is it about middle aged men that they think everyone wants to hear their crochety opinions? I wonder if Clarkson has a daughter? I don't care enough to check though, and how she feels? Probably "shut up Dad, you are SO embarrassing"

To all of those criticising GT for her shoutiness and write that there are 1000s of thousands of scientists with years more experience; yes, you are absolutely right, but unless you know one personally, can you name an environmentalist scientist? I can't. Maybe these 1000s of scientists are delighted that they have a shouty spokesperson in Ms Thunberg, maybe they hope that finally people will start listening and lobby their governments to take notice. We have all, teenagers, scientists and others had enough of blah blah blah
