To turn up looking like a tramp is showing clear disrespect to all the fallen.

It is funny or clever, it is a disgrace.

Was it a Labour leader who wore a donkey jacket one year?

At least Boris is wearing a suit. smile

It was a duffle coat

Lets face it. Many men need the once over before going out somewhere important. He looks uncared for; perhaps Jennifer A's pillow-talk diary in the Sunday papers soured the mood at breakfast.

You're right about the service people Welshwife. I thought he was at a terrible disadvantage last night compared to the royal family who all looked impeccable.

Whatever the jacket was, Micheal Foot had a reputation for being ‘scruffy’ even though he was an excellent politician.
It’s pathetic really how we judge people on whether their tie is completely straight or they have a hair out of place.
Some really horrible people on this thread.

Johnson is judged by far more than just his scruffiness. That's just the final straw.

How people look is probably more noticeable today as all the Service people are just so smart.
Johnson does need a good tailor - if things fitted him properly he would look better and most likely feel better too. He did have a new navy suit which looked good quite recently. Many off the peg suits do not fit so well because people are not ‘even’ both sides of their body - often noticeable by the way jackets fit around the shoulder/collar area. It is interesting watching a tailor fitting a man for a suit. My father always needed to have his suits made to get a good fit and my first husband did as he could have two pairs of trousers to each jacket - Jackets spend much office time on the back of chairs - not a luxury offered to the trousers!
Shirt collars are another on the smartness scale - separate collars which went to the Chinese Laundry were a thing of the 60s and always looked smart and crisp.

Some people just don't look smart no matter what they do. I had a friend who you could dress head to toe in the most expensive designer suits - and he would still look like he had been dragged through a hedge backwards!

If the worst that could be said of our PM was that he had a hair out of place or his tie wasn't straight we'd all have something to celebrate.

I think my memory tells me it was Michael Foot who wore an anorak to the ceremony.

theworriedwell Sun 14-Nov-21 11:44:26

He might have made an effort but I think everyone else looked smarter than him. Quite a contrast between him and Keir Starmer going up immediately after him.

I know bodyshape comes into it but men of similar shape can look smart, I think Harry Seacombe was the shorter rounder shape but he scrubbed up well.

I'm not a fan but Pritti Patel looked very smart I thought.

Grandma70s Sun 14-Nov-21 11:39:35

At the Cenotaph this morning he had buttoned up his jacket and appeared to have applied a hairbrush. Effort being made.

Anniebach Sun 14-Nov-21 11:33:08

Michael Foot did not wear a donkey jacket , I saw the coat, Jill
was so upset, she bought a short overcoat because Michael had
suffered serious injuries in a car accident in the sixties, couldn’t walk without a walking stick , Jill chose a shorter coat to make
walking with wreath and stick easier.

His wobbly walk caused much laughter in the press , so wrong ,
Michael was that rare person, a honest MP.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 13-Nov-21 22:48:28

I think Michael Foot wore a brand new donkey jacket which was the right size. His wife was upset when the media picked on him. Back to Johnson - he has been seen at the HofC giving his hair a quick ruffle before he goes in to take his seat. It’s all done for effect but I don’t know what he hopes to gain by it.

Casdon Sat 13-Nov-21 22:47:57

You are correct Anniebach, nor did he wear a donkey jacket - Tory urban myth.

How extremely uncouth, Whitewave.

He’s a dreadful shape but it’s quite easy to purchase a suit to compensate just as it’s easy to have a decent haircut

I too remember a poster saying BJ looked like a burst sofa . Great description ?

ayse Sat 13-Nov-21 21:32:17

Josianne

I just caught a quick glimpse of Boris at The Royal Albert Hall remembrance service and he looked a bit smarter.

Surprisingly! At least he had some decency this time.

ayse Sat 13-Nov-21 21:30:58

Just seen him on Remembrance in Albert Hall. He looks quite presentable for a change, thank goodness.

Allsorts Sat 13-Nov-21 21:21:33

He’s a disgrace.

theworriedwell Sat 13-Nov-21 21:17:41

What's going on with his collar? He'd look better if he sorted that out, not good but better.

To be fair to Jeremy Corbyn he looked smarter in his anorak than Boris Johnson does in his suit.

Maybe he should hold himself in another position.

Other than the position of Prime Minister perhaps? smile

boat Sat 13-Nov-21 20:43:12

To me he looks massively hungover.

Grandma70s Sat 13-Nov-21 20:36:03

I believe his hair is naturally that colour.
