Johnson’s lack of respect

To turn up looking like a tramp is showing clear disrespect to all the fallen.

It is funny or clever, it is a disgrace.

His previous employer Hastings warned the Tory party against him.

westendgirl Thu 18-Nov-21 13:38:25

I'm sure you remember his report from Eton:
"I think he honestly believes it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else."
I think the question should be how on earth did the Conservative party think he was an appropriate candidate for Leader. His previous careers showed that he did not have the qualities necessary to lead a country.

I would have thought that the things he’s had to deal with since becoming PM would bring anyone to their knees.

I’ve just googled when Johnson was mayor of London. I’ve scrolled through dozens of images and he looked absolutely fine.

FannyCornforth Thu 18-Nov-21 12:22:26

As I said upthread, I’m sure that his deteriorating physical appearance is something psychological.
I don’t think that he used to look this awful.

I had missed that 'joke' from Johnson, if anyone thinks that actually was a joke and not a clear statement of Johnsons view of women, then they dont understand Johnson at all. A deeply deeply damaged man.

You’re not wrong. His childhood was utterly bonkers. I don’t think anyone could have come out of it unscathed and well rounded.
The man has issues

Personally I think he looks a right mess and he really should do something with his hair. There are plenty of hair products on the market - he should make use of them. He has no pride in the way he dresses or presents himself - he’s a bit of a slob really.

Totally, but that does not really bother me that much.

His absolutel lack of moral compass, humility and honesty- is MUCH much more serious imho.

I’d like Jeremy Hunt to replace him. He is, at least, speaking up for Nazanin and has done so for a long time now. It was pointed out to Johnson today that there is a way that we can repay the money we owe Iran, because Obama managed to get some prisoners released a few years ago. Johnson said he would consider it: he obviously hadn’t given the matter much thought and seems oblivious to the fact that it was his comments that enabled Iran to keep her incarcerated. For years there has been this strange perception that behind the bumbling facade is a highly intelligent man. But that facade is now crumbling away. He hardly answered anything at the select committee today. It was full of things that should have been done or things he should know about and all he could do was say he’d ‘get back to you about it’. All the people behind brexit are now showing themselves for what they really are. Johnson, Cummings, Bannon in America. Chope, Rees Mogg, Paterson.

They would have kept her incarcerated without Johnson’s remarks. You really think they would have set her, and don’t forget there are others incarcerated by this terrorist regime, free , no way. Even if we pay the money back there is no guarantee they will free them.

Oh, and I’ve just had a message from Tulip to say how overwhelmed she and Richard have been by the amount of support they’ve had. I’ve been politically active throughout most of my adult life and quite often people have said about things I’ve done ‘what good will that do’. But, you know what, sometimes it has worked.

I cannot understand why some posters fell they have to make excuses for Johnson's appalling behaviour. He does not improve and as a leader of a country is a disgrace. I would hate to see my grandsons thinking that his sort of behaviour is acceptable.

Well, it certainly won’t harm the cause will it? I believe Obama replayed a debt to Iran a few years ago and got some prisoners released. So, do you think it was a good thing for the, then, foreign secretary, to tell Iran that she was training people up? (yes or no will suffice)

Superb quote from The Great Gatsby, Scones. ? So apt.

With a few exceptions the Tories are not turning on Johnson now because of their own moral sense of right and wrong.

I think it's statements like that which upset the tory voters on here. I think most of them would regard themselves as having a good sense of right or wrong. But I'm afraid I just think 'Why on earth do you go on supporting them?'
--And I don't think ridiculous statements like 'Labour couldn't do any better' are a valid reason--

I never aim to upset anyone and I apologise if my post has done so.

It is impossible for me to see how anyone who believes they have a good sense of right or wrong can read the list detailed in Kali2's post (9.32) and think that these guys are the right people to be leading our society.

I understand where the 'Labour couldn't do any better' sentiment comes from, but really? If you really think about this, could anyone have done worse? Could anyone have made things worse than the way we are now and the way we are heading? Differently bad perhaps, but not worse. Surely it's time to give someone else a go and I don't mean another Conservative PM.

He might have meant it as a joke, albeit not in the best of taste.

A joke at his young, pregnant wife's expense.

What sort of man does that?

Just bantz, Scones, just bantz... ?

Well you are probably spot on there MaizeD. In 2015 the membership of the Garrick Club voted on whether to allow women members the vote was 50.5% in favour. This didn't come to pass though as a majority of 2/3rds is required for action apparentlyhmm.

The reason given by one member was that keeping it men only "allows for camaraderie and banter".

Did you enjoy it Maizie?
I quite agree that it could do with an update!

Every word of it. Should be required reading for all voters.

FannyCornforth Thu 18-Nov-21 10:02:49

‘Buyers effing remorse?!!’

I can’t believe he has the cheek to use that expression!
How does he think vaguely sensible Brexit voters / Conservative voters feel?!

Neither are they doing so because the opposition and press are holding up a mirror. Experience shows us that they don't care what face they see in the mirror, however ugly it is.

They are doing so because the can feel negative pressure from the electorate's moral sense of right and wrong. Maintaining power is their only compass.

I highly recommend a book called ‘The Assault on Truth; Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and the New Moral Barbarism’.
Despite its title, there is very little about Trump, it’s really about Johnson. It’s brilliant.
It covers all of his lies and disgusting behaviour.
It’s by Peter Oborne, a Tory.

I bought it months and months ago! It needs updating now that there is another volume's worth of material to add to it grin

Will you all never tire of excusing this poor excuse for a man?
