He might have meant it as a joke, albeit not in the best of taste.
From a friend:
The Tories turning on Johnson makes me sick. Of course I want him gone. Of course he’s a disgrace. But look at what they accepted and indeed cheered from him, and look at what tipped the balance.
A few things that are not worth removing Johnson:
Lying to the Queen
Unlawfully proroguing Parliament
Lying to the electorate about Brexit
Risking the Good Friday Agreement
Refusing to feed hungry school children
Removing £20 a week from the poorest
Accepting bribes from all and sundry
Shocking Covid response in global terms
PPE scandal
Eye-watering money waste of Test & Trace
Releasing sewage into our water systems
Creating an internal border in our country
Risking the Union
Causing empty supermarket shelves
NHS overwhelm
Care system near collapse
Justice system near collapse
Removing British citizens’ free movement
Destroying music industry’s ability to tour
Culling thousands of healthy pigs
Adopting policy with intent to drown refugees
Undermining anti-corruption measures
Needing to insist UK not corrupt at COP26
Abandoning Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe
Awarding peerage to dodgy Russian
Any number of sex scandals
Single thing that may lead to removing him:
Asking that MPs actually concentrate on fulfilling their elected duty, not take a second job and restrict their earnings to £82,000.
It’s hard to believe that this party exists for any other purpose than to feather the nests of its own members.
Buyers remorse.
This was said to 30 current and former journalists over dinner at the Garrick gentleman's club. Was it meant as a joke? Is it funny?
Imagine how heartbroken you would be if your partner said that about you.
What sort of man says this about his young wife who is pregnant with his second child? What does that sort of man thinks of women to say such a thing?
“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.” F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
I will admit to the guilty pleasure of watching this bit about 5 times last night
I watched him at that committee on YouTube last night. He is so hard to listen to, all the er er er and um um um. I'm sure if you cut them out there would be hardly anything left.
I had to laugh at the bit where someone asked him why he'd said there was cross party support for the trick they tried to pull and he admitted he hadn't spoken to the opposition asked another question he said something like, "I can't comment on that conversation as it never happened." It just sounded so ridiculous, I mean if it never happened there wasn't a conversation.
I was so pleased when the Speaker lost it with him, he's needed putting in his place for a long time.
He’s an embarrassing manchild who talks gibberish, but because he has a slick of charm some can’t see beyond that. The number of U turns and the lack of any moral compass is beginning to wear the facade down, hopefully more can see the emperor’s lack of clothing.
I’d like Jeremy Hunt to replace him. He is, at least, speaking up for Nazanin and has done so for a long time now. It was pointed out to Johnson today that there is a way that we can repay the money we owe Iran, because Obama managed to get some prisoners released a few years ago. Johnson said he would consider it: he obviously hadn’t given the matter much thought and seems oblivious to the fact that it was his comments that enabled Iran to keep her incarcerated. For years there has been this strange perception that behind the bumbling facade is a highly intelligent man. But that facade is now crumbling away. He hardly answered anything at the select committee today. It was full of things that should have been done or things he should know about and all he could do was say he’d ‘get back to you about it’. All the people behind brexit are now showing themselves for what they really are. Johnson, Cummings, Bannon in America. Chope, Rees Mogg, Paterson.

Not much respect for his wives, including the current one, as he is reported to have complained about 'buyers remorse' at a dinner recently, when he was asked about his married life.
I don't like him but I hope someone is lying about that. Horrible thing to say about his pregnant wife.

Kuenssberg has tweeted that you can see the authority leaking away from Johnson. He is getting weaker.
About time imo. But who on earth will replace him, and who are we going to be landed with?
So - how fast is it going to be, I wonder?

It depends if the current cabinet are dragged down with him. If not, Rishi Sunak. If so Jeremy Hunt I’d guess.
I'd prefer Jeremy Hunt. I think Sunak wasted alot of money during the pandemic, eat out to help out was ridiculous. I've heard from someone with a local business that lots of the businesses that have closed (and alot have round here anyway) have taken big guaranteed loans and then closed the business. I think if the are a limited company they can't touch them. Well that's what I was told. Then there are the companies that claimed furlough and kept working.
I don't understand what people admire about him. We will be paying for his generosity for years.

I'm a Boris fan. He has wit and humour and is a representative of this country we can be proud of.
Is that you Dilyn?
I really think the cut of his suit is irrelevant to his competence as PM, his honesty or lack of it , and his respect for the people who lost their lives in combat. (;and I don’t even like him)
Presumably some other people like him too or he would not be PM
MollyF You are a brave woman!

Next PM? I've seen Liz Truss mentioned a time or two...
Blimey.

I see the Tories are distancing themselves from Stanley Johnson.

Yes I would agree except what I have read about Tory members.
Quite a few of my friends and family are Conservative Party Members ( you will not be surprised at that) and they are all very pro Mr.Sunak.
As for me, not sure what party, if any I can vote for.

My money is on Mr.Sunak he has distanced himself from the PM and kept his head down (apart from the budget) in recent weeks/ months.
