Elected dictatorship, works well in China - for the elite, with luck they won’t make Boris PM for life.

I often wonder how posters will cope if Johnson is voted in again next time.?⚡️?Fireworks I should think.
Look, all the nonsense about dictatorships may be swallowed by the gullible, sensible people know better.

Does it not bother you that decent MP’s such as Clarke, Stewart, Soubry, Grieve and Soames couldn’t possibly serve under a Conservative leader such as Johnson?

I find it laughable reading lavish compliments about Ken Clarke from left leaning posters.?
He’s a bitter Remainer and has always been full of himself in any case.

I think he’s one of the most respected politicians of recent times. I know of several Labour voters in his area that voted for him because he was a very good constituency MP.

We've discussed this before and it's been dismissed as nonsense, or it can't possibly be a dictatorship because we haven't got people in jackboots walking all over us..

Several commentators have written much the same thing. Perhaps it might be taken more seriously coming from a former tory minister and highly experienced parliamentarian.

Very good article, I agree with him. Thanks GagaJo.

It really is. And it was so obvious what was coming and yet the 'better than Jeremy Corbyn' lemmings swarmed over the edge of the cliff to vote Tory. And here we are.

I’ve got a lot of respect for Ken Clarke, he is very sensible. Parliament has felt his loss since he stood down.

Scary isn't it.

I couldn't agree more with this. It's exactly what I said on here (and elsewhere as I'm sure you can imagine!) two years ago.

The UK is “dangerously close” to becoming an “elected dictatorship” under Boris Johnson, veteran Tory Ken Clarke is warning – as he branded his handling of Brexit clashes “laughable”.

The former cabinet heavyweight lashed out at the prime minister’s disregard for “constitutional constraints”, calling his party “more nationalist than at any time in my lifetime”.

“He gets angry if the courts or parliament try to interfere. As the elected prime minister, he thinks he should not be impeded in these ways,” Lord Clarke said.

“We are now getting dangerously close to the “elected dictatorship” that Lord Hailsham, the former Lord Chancellor, warned us about half a century ago.”
