Somewhere around the bottom of the barrel?

Will happily put hands up and say I did not realise the date of the video. Makes little difference, the lack of logic remains the same. Monica, it would be really interesting to know the answer re her changing her mind by now, or not.

On the other hand, UK Newspapers and expat publications and FB and other expat groups in Europe are complaining bitterly that there are now no chance of applying for jobs, with a large variety of businesses saying they will not even consider any job application by Brits as the paperwork and redtape is costly and huge.

Yes, that bottom of the barrel is very full at the moment MayBeMaw.

Drum roll ? And the best answer goes to ………………….
MayBeMaw, yeh ????.

If the clip is 4 years old, it was recorded just after the referendum, when we were still full members of the EU and all that has happened since (including COVID) was unforcastable.

I am afraid this thread is pointless. It proves nothing. For all we know the lady concerned has changed her mind by now.

It just goes to show how far people will search to find something to try and prove their point

If you're desperate, quite a long way apparently! wink

On the subject of Eastern European workers going home when covid struck I can only speak of what I heard from a restaurant that I use where the staff came back.
They wanted to be with their family in their homeland where they could understand what was going on.
Yes, they all speak very good English but it’s not the same as listening to vital information in your own tongue.

Calistemon Sun 21-Nov-21 20:12:32

Actually, not any who came to the UK, I should add. ?

I’m not going to feed your need to know what British people feel about Eastern European workers.

I'm related to some of them
???

Before lockdown there were a large number of mainly Polish migrant worker in this area, around half were laid off rather than furloughed, they went home and just havn’t returned. So every business is short staffed, everyone is doing overtime and extra shifts to keep going and the strain is showing.
There is virtually no unemployment in this area, anyone who wants a job just has to turn up regularly, hopefully more migrants will return next spring and we can get back to normality.

This interview was 4 years ago, their website address shows temporarily closed and no activity on their Facebook page for four years either. Maybe they regret that interview, it would be interesting to hear what the two ladies would say now.

you beat me to it. I'm surprised nobody noticed the date.

The lazy locals will be habitual moaners.

The point however is not about Brexit as such- but the logic of saying the locals don't want to get out of bed to do the jobs, that she doesn't mind the Europeans ...

Oh come on, it’s always about Brexit!

Kali2 Sun 21-Nov-21 17:44:35

How can 'locals' complain that those horrible Europeans are taking their job- and then point blank refuse any of those jobs? Something just does not tally here!

I had been living in Bulgaria for 3 years before they joined the EU. You ask why would they travel thousands of miles, etc.?
For a better life and opportunities. Generally speaking they will do any work as long as you pay them.
It’s a completely different work ethic.

I think it is the same in many countries.

Kali2 Sun 21-Nov-21 17:09:30

It is indeed MeryStreep- so we should be grateful and welcome them, no?

I could never work out why migrants would travel thousands of miles to do work that the local unemployed would not cross the road for.

Yes, kitty- this is NOT the point of this thread. It is about the logic, or lack of, displayed.

Yes, Monica, indeed - so where is the logic?

M0nica Sun 21-Nov-21 16:14:28

Brexit did not mean a mass exodus of Europeans (Eastern Europeans), although more went than expected. It is clear that the immigrants, here and staying have a better work ethic than the local British and she woulld rather employ those.

kittylester Sun 21-Nov-21 15:39:37

Brexit has happened, kali!
