If Peppa Pig is now the symbol of global Britain, what have you got to lose Mr Farage?

He says in the Telegraph just now:

“ ...as the official number of arrivals for 2021 heads towards 25,000 (we still don’t have the Home Office figures for Tuesday 16 November) it does seem as though something is beginning to change. Reports are circulating that the Prime Minister has become fretful. As well he should. On his watch, the mantra of “taking back control” of our borders has descended into farce.

The biggest problem Boris Johnson faces is not the sheer impracticality and cost to the public purse of housing, clothing, feeding and giving free healthcare and education to huge numbers of people who have chosen to leave the safety of France to come to this country. Neither is it the daily expense of conducting the Channel operations. Instead, it is the threat to Britain’s national security and the safety of its citizens. Johnson is ultimately responsible for guarding his people. This is the sacred duty of any prime minister. It should override all others. Yet the present occupant of 10 Downing Street seems to have abandoned his post.”

Whether within EU or without- the UK has to act in line with International Law.

Well if Farage wants to split the right wing vote- he is welcome, I suppose!

Thank you- went to babysit and just come back- for immigrants who have no family here. A much much better use of my time.

Kali2. As usual spot on.

In any case, it wasn't a personal attack. It was a hypothesis.

Kali used the word if:

If you have, and still insist on bringing him ...

She gave Maudi the benefit of the doubt.

I have reported you Kali2 not something I have done lightly, but this is not the first time you have called me or other posters racist and according to GN guidelines your post in my opinion is a personal attack and should not be allowed.

Maybe you should be reported for promoting somebody with racist, extreme views, who has been prosecuted in France for pushing them.

I’m not sure it is a ‘personal attack’..I see it more as an accurate description of disgusting, inhuman views that are grounded in racism.

The last thread on the subject of this man was pulled because it got very unpleasant. As Alegrias suggested, let's not go there.

Zemmour is dropping fast in polls in France, and 1 by 1, his financial backers are dropping him as his views are just too extreme (fascist).

It would be really good if we didn't go down this path again. It didn't end well last time.

Of course that is only my opinion and everyone can post what they like.

Urmstongran watched a really interesting programme on YouTube last night about Eric Zammour (remember him ?) Macron's nemesis taking France by storm from The Telegraph, can't do a link but worth a watch some say he could possibly beat Macron.

A journalist on the BBC news this evening did a quick calculation and said that for just one single very overcrowded boatload of migrants the people smuggler would have got around £250,000.

It’s always been obvious that it’s an extremely lucrative business to be in but no wonder these criminals are keen to crack on with their trade. A quarter of a million pounds per boat?
They are not going to let go of that without a struggle, are they?

Well that was quick.
Shows what CAN be achieved (catching people traffickers) when there’s a WILL.

“Four people have been arrested in connection with a migrant boat which sank in the English Channel, the French interior minister has said.

Gerald Darmanin said in a press conference that "1,500 people have been arrested since the start of January, and four of them today.

"We suspect that they were directly linked to this particular crossing".

Mr Darmanin's comments were reported live with the use of a translator on Sky News.”

By your figures they have been arresting between 4 and 5 people a day all year. So today is nothing unusual.

So there is a WILL and it CAN be done every day and in fact it is done.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 20:05:58

From the BBC website yesterday growstuff;

“More than 25,000 people have crossed the Channel so far this year - but it's important to consider that figure as part of a bigger picture.
In 2019, some 45,000 people sought asylum in the UK. So, the dinghies are only part of the total.”

So, 50%??

The tragic deaths of young migrants locked in a lorry about two years ago was shocking, but it seems that the tragedies are now continuing at sea.

Surely there must be a way to beat the people smugglers before more deaths occur?

Only about 25% of asylum seekers come to the UK by boat.

Yes, it would be easy to destroy the people smugglers' trade. Make it easier to come to the UK and process asylum applications quickly and efficiently.

Perhaps instead of having a go at Umg you could turn attention to the French, the migrants blood is on their hands. Or is it only the English and the Tory government you have a problem with.

It’s an international problem. Why do you put responsibility on the French? The people smugglers should be prosecuted.
The Uk government needs to stop expecting the French authorities to be responsible for preventing people smugglers and people fleeing war zones/starvation. If you already have family here, you’ll obviously try to join them.

Cut off the head of the snake.

GillT57 Wed 24-Nov-21 19:37:26

I just lost a lengthy post due to phone problems but it is probably just as well as my opinion on the breathtaking hypocrisy and crocodile tears about the dead people on the.dinghies would have likely been flamed.

I agree Urmstongran it beggars belief doesn't it and it was only the quick thinking of the taxi driver that saved women and children being blown up, killed and maimed and some make excuses for them.

What did he do that saved anyone? I watched the film and the bomb went off, the driver jumped out of the car and left the door open and ran away. Horrific for him but how did he save anyone from being blown up?

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 18:10:33

Alegrias there’s a distinction here. Yes there may well be young men who are scroungers, telling lies about their age, their sexuality and their religion, crossing to us, some as we know wish us harm.

However, a change in our laws and accountability is what some of us are asking for. To get a grip of this situation.

People coming here (in containers having paid traffickers), some from Vietnam were not fleeing for their lives. They were not asylum seekers. They want to sneak in, live off grid and send money home. They were indeed economic migrants.

The people coming over in rubber dinghies are trying to claim asylum. Which, as you have pointed out, until their applications have been assessed they are allowed to remain.

However, That does NOT mean we wish to hear of them drowning in the cold sea of the November Channel.

I believe Boris is chairing a COBRA meeting tonight on this whole issue.

Someone needs to come up with a plan before more tragic lives are lost.

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Nov-21 18:01:45

Oh - I remember.

Oh, the irony ?

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Nov-21 17:57:47

After hearing all day that the migrants are able young men who are scroungers, telling lies about their age, their sexuality and their religion, forgive me if I find the hand-wringing over the latest tragedy a bit hard to take.

BTW - what did I say that warranted deletion that was worse than all the untruths we've had to read about these poor people?
