It was sad to hear of the death of Stephen Sondheim who made such a great contribution to musical theatre. This prompted me to listen once again, to Judi Dench’s version at the Proms, of Send In The Clowns (available on YouTube). I have always thought that this is the definitive version, one that never fails to reduce me to tears. Ms Dench’s timing and facial expressions add so much to the song which though beautifully sung by so many artists, is given an added dimension by her performance. RIP Stephen Sondheim.

I’ve just listened to it Lexisgranny and I agree she sings it beautifully. How did I not know she sang as well as acted?

Crikey, for a moment I thought your headline meant we’d lost a National Treasure too. Whew!

Here's Judi Dench. She's not the world's best singer but WOW! So much expression and emotion.

Just watched the Judy Dench episode of Who Do You Think You Are? It was brilliant and she came across as such a nice person (not that I ever thought she wouldn't be nice)

I agree .... and she made intelligent comments whereas some of them just keep saying "Wow" all the time.

On Sondheim - I might have mentioned before that Wedt Side Story is my favourite musical of all time.
