No 10 was breaking Christmas Lockdown rules last year.

While most of the UK was observing the Lockdown rules last Christmas staff at No. 10 were having a great time...

When asked three times at PMQs yesterday to deny the story Johnson refused to do so. Because, it seems, even he couldn't take his habitual lying that far.

All that an official Downing Street spokesman could come up with was that 'covid rules were observed at all times... No denial. hmm

This is only the latest in the steady stream of high profile lockdown breaking stories we've heard over the past 18 months.

Some very sad stories on this thread from people who weren't able to see dying relatives because of the rules.

With the possibility that the spread of the Omicron variant may call for more stringent rules just before Christmas this year these revelations may well lead people not to observe them.

While I realise that we will never get rid of this virus how can we even begin to reduce its spread when those who are supposed to being giving a lead by showing a good example flout the rules?

I should add that I'm hmm as to why this story has only broken now.

Josianne

^Can’t help wondering who recorded this, though, and kept it as a weapon to bring out later.^
Yes Witzend, but why now, not months ago?

My guess is it Dominic Cummings…

On the news this morning (sorry cannot recall if it was BBC or GMB, TVs in different rooms on different channels) they said that the Metropolitan Police are now going to investigate the party .

If it was found to be illegal (and I assume it will be) I do hope that the appropriate heads will roll. I am not sure if Mr.Johnson can survive this, surely the backbenchers should grow a backbone and voice their opinion’s ?

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 09:20:11

To cause the most damage, I presume?

When Ant and Dec are commenting in their shows about political goings-on, you know that those goings-on have reached a far wider public than Boris et al could possibly have imagined.
Absolutely Oldnproud and they have totally grasped the mentality of a huge swathe of the population who will now be discussing that introduction to IACGMOOH today.

I’ve just watched Allegra S laughing about this at a political news conference. Johnson is surrounded by people like himself who don’t believe normal rules of engagement apply to them
I know I’m not the only grannie posting here who didn’t have family or friends round last Christmas. Infuriating, talk about led by donkeys. Whoops apologies, my experience of donkeys is entirely positive. Plus they have particular significance in the Nativity plays

Must say I’m (wearily) unsurprised.

Can’t help wondering who recorded this, though, and kept it as a weapon to bring out later. Will they find out, and hang them by their entrails from the nearest handy lamppost?

Shades of House of Cards (the original novel) but not as deviously plotted as anything by FU.

They're probably practising a new bunch of lies out for size as we speak.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 08-Dec-21 08:20:25

Rats disappearing overboard. Cowards as well as liars.

I've never seen anything like it!

We watched open-mouthed when that clip was shown on TV news last night.

My money would be on Hunt or Truss.

I keep wondering if Osborne would try to come back. Not that I think that would be good.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 07:37:44

There were journalists who were in on the secret, too, it's alleged.
Stratton is married to one, for a start.

M0nica Wed 08-Dec-21 07:20:43

Surprise, Surprise.

Petera Wed 08-Dec-21 07:15:29

..and now government ministers are withdrawing from interviews that were planned this morning.

TopsyIrene06 Wed 08-Dec-21 07:14:54

I really enjoyed being on my own last Christmas, terrified of mixing in case Covid got me while I was recovering. Don't tell me it's OK.
Having said that, nothing will happen so don't get excited.

vegansrock Wed 08-Dec-21 07:02:48

Yes she was supposed to be green washing the governments’ policies on climate change, but she’s made a hash of that too.

Mamie Wed 08-Dec-21 06:56:33

I thought Allegra Stratton moved on to COP?
There is some schadenfreude to be had from the fact that the millions spent on the briefing room that was never used, have resulted in this video emerging when they were having a practice run. No wonder they gave up on the project.
Inept doesn't come near to describing it.

Mamie Wed 08-Dec-21 06:48:25

Tugendhat and Ellwood seem to be capable and would appear to have some moral compass left.

Lucca Wed 08-Dec-21 06:32:11

Good post Monica, good post Josianne.

vegansrock Wed 08-Dec-21 06:29:05

Allegra Stratton should at least lose her job. She is inept flailing about like that- so unprofessional! Also laughing about breaking the law when you work for the government and holding the public in contempt, is unforgivable.
Trouble is, where are all the honest decent tories? Or did Johnson get rid of all of them?

growstuff Wed 08-Dec-21 06:20:03

He is already there Growstuff sitting right next to Johnson. Not that I am a betting person but if there is a change of leadership it will be Rishi Sunak

Hmmm! Not so sure about that after the revelations about fraudulent support, which weren't checked adequately.

I don't think Sunak has enough political experience to do a good job. In any case, a whole new cabinet is needed.

Can’t help but feel that this is the Conservatives way of getting rid of Johnson so that they can reinvent themselves before the next election? If not, who is pulling the strings here? Has Murdoch decided he wants a Labour government? Who or what is behind all this? Or is it all so corrupt now it can’t sustain itself?

Silk purse makers desperately wanted! Apply Conservative Party HQ.

growstuff Wed 08-Dec-21 04:37:20

I don't know who the "we" in your post are, but I know I've been going on about wider corruption and the sinister undermining of democracy and parliamentary processes for months. Maybe some people are now listening, although I suspect many will still not look below the surface.
