Boris and Carrie have just announced the birth of a daughter. No further news yet.

Whitewave I think it was another poster who said
It has nothing to do with any of us
It doesn't really but it's News.

I could phone a friend but they'd wonder why I wanted to chat about Carrie and Boris's baby!

My friends would think I’d gone mad???.

He he, yes my real friends would think I had gone pretty mad too!

Ask the Johnson’s whether they were complicit in a plane charter and the removal of animals from Afghanistan leaving tiny babies and parents to die at the Taliban hands.

Absolutely right, Kali2. The desperation of those mothers trying to get their babies to safety is heart wrenching.
And I do wonder what the future holds for any babies born on
this planet these days.

This baby means a lot to Carrie, I'm sure, so best wishes to her and the baby.

Most babies mean a lot to their mothers- those born in war torn countries, trying to escape the misery of their life, taking huge risks to try and take the expected baby to safety... My heart goes to them

And in the spirit of Christmas even more so.

So yes, best wishes to Carrie and baby- but lots of joy for me? Not really.

Well, that applies to most of the stuff on GN, but doesn’t stop the vast majority of us (me included) weighing in with our opinions.

Were it not for opinions then Gransnet (and Mumsnet, Twitter etc) would sink like a trace!

And I am chuffed that a spin off from this thread asking for opinions on splitting Politics and News has generated 130 very strong opinions! So, never underestimate small talk or dimwits!

I think that you are underestimating those that take part in “small talk” and making assumptions about those of us who don’t take much part in small talk but prefer to post on more debate type of threads. I certainly don’t think anyone who keeps entirely to the chat threads dim, as I know absolutely nothing about them.

I’m one of them, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t take part in small talk, I do, but almost exclusively with people face to face or people I know as friends, family etc. I don’t “know” anyone on the virtual media, so prefer to largely keep it debate and the odd foray into chat etc.

I can understand those who are alone or need extra support that they can’t get from friends and family, then social media is a life line. I have replied to those in trouble or worry, but it can imo only ever be second best to face to face, love and touch.

I agree Calistemon but also we’ve all heard such a lot of bad news with the pandemic over the last two years, that the lovely news about a new baby is just nice for a change.

Teletubbies ? ? ? in your heads, people! This thread is:

Grumpy-wumpy ?, Tetchy ?, La-La ?, Po ?

At least that's what ran through my head after certain comments.

Has anyone suggested Edith?
Another old name I have heard a few times recently.

Someone's been looking at my family tree grin

Rowantree Thu 09-Dec-21 23:14:07

Who cares what the baby's name is? Wealthy Woman Has Baby. So what? I don't wish it harm but I don't consider it any source of joy. It has nothing to do with any of us.

Josianne Thu 09-Dec-21 22:42:47

I think it unlikely the baby will be called Keira.

You might have a hit on your hands Cali with Clementine (Clemmie)! Wasn’t that the name of Winston Churchill’s wife and Boris is a big fan of Churchill ...

Mind you I can’t think of much other than Huckleberry Hound singing ‘Oh ma darlin’ , oh ma darlin’ , oh ma darlin Clementine!’ ? ?
?

I know, it's my ear worm now!
I do like it.

However, I'm plugging Mabel now. Carrie said she'll consider it smile

Welcome back EllanVannin, nice to see you posting again.

It's my birthday today, so maybe the new baby could be called 'Hattie'?? grin. Hattie Johnson has a certain ring to it wine

BlueSky Thu 09-Dec-21 21:16:44

Clementine would be a very seasonal name! Congratulations to the proud parents and a warm welcome to their baby girl!

Holly Johnson hasn't been forgotten in my house. We saw him live a few times and still play his music there are some lovely covers of his songs. You may have heard this one ,I think it was used in a christmas advert a couple of years ago .

Wishing the baby girl a happy, healthy long life and hope she will get on very well with her half siblings.
