Liberal elite grin. Conpated to the man if the people that is Johnson.

Pardon!

They all ‘do fine’ until they get into government at which point doing fine goes out the window and the real self emerges.

Anniebach Tue 14-Dec-21 08:57:24

Agree Lucca

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 08:54:11

I thought he did fine, too, Maizie*.
I'm just representing both views.

Lucca Tue 14-Dec-21 08:51:17

I couldn’t give a monkey’s about Starmer’s supposed lack of charisma if he has integrity, just as I wouldn’t care about Johnson’s regrettable appearance and delivery if he had some !

Some twitter responses to the speech

@marktudball said: "Seen more life in the local mortuary, if blancmange could talk it would be Keir. #kierstarmer."

@rushton_sarah added: "I am a Labour supporter but #kierstarmer made his address with all the passion of someone announcing the 5.45 has arrived from Grantham."

I saw plenty of positive statements about it on twitter, too.

At least Starmer didn't spring a complete surprise on the hollowed out NHS and expect them to achieve the impossible by yesterday...

I thought he did fine.

JaneJudge Tue 14-Dec-21 08:09:44

Rowley Birkin QC goes to Peppa pig world and he vair vair drunk

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Dec-21 08:09:40

The clear advantage that Starmer had, was, that he isn’t Johnson.

Lack of trust in Johnson has become a real issue in the country, so what was needed was the same message but coming from someone known to have integrity and honesty as part of their character.

Starmer can deliver that.

The message was a serious one. It is about saving lives.

It was delivered in a serious and statesmanlike way. No bells and whistles - that would have been totally inappropriate.

The message was delivered and understood.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Dec-21 08:08:33

I don't think people have ever been so divided.
Mind you, we've never had a pm asking people if they've been to peppa pig world before...

MerylStreep Tue 14-Dec-21 08:03:57

if blancmange could talk it would be Kier Starmer
That is evil, but so so funny. PMSL. ??

My grandad had hair like that, couldn’t do a thing with it. If anyone had said he looked drunk and unkempt I would certainly have given them what for.

JaneJudge

Jamie Oliver has just said ^From my family, to yours - have a lovely Chritmas

Yes he said it with joy and meaning, not as an after thought, after watching his programme, made me feel there is some sunshine out there.

Calistemon

^But he does lack charisma, which sadly now is what politicians are judged on. Boris has committed a whole raft of acts that lack integrity, but still he hangs on^.

He might, but he did appear statesmanlike imo.

I thought he is just what we need.

In the same vein as Biden really, no charisma, boring to listen too. You need some character to get people to listen, and he has non. My family to yours, utter tosh from another liberal elite.

I rewatched both addresses this morning
From Johnson informative and pretty hard hitting I could find no reason for not understanding exactly what he was saying.
Starmer was also ok a little more like a party political announcement in disguise but nothing wrong with it
One of the differences I felt was that Johnson was talking to you and Starmer less so

That’s simply not true JaneJudge though I realise it’s what you wish to be true.
Watching Johnson last night I wondered aloud why he couldn’t always be as clear in speech ( no jokes/ Latin or umming and erring) because he obviously can do it, and can be serious too.Combing his hair would be good but we can’t have everything.

you must have watched someone or something else

I disagree MissA. Tonight was NOT the moment to be wishing everyone a “happy Christmas”. It jarred, definitely. It was not the moment. Duh.

And undoubtedly you and others would have criticised him if he had not. I thought he came across as sincere, sensible and a grown up unlike the unkempt fool that you put in charge.

MayBee70 Mon 13-Dec-21 23:05:10

Sorry. I keep talking about Johnson don’t I!

MayBee70 Mon 13-Dec-21 22:48:15

An old celebrity gogglebox tonight featuring the police being called to Johnson and Carries flat after being called by the neighbours. Yet another thing that people have probably forgotten about.

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 22:47:54

Makes a change from the daily fail.

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 22:47:15

I read the Morning Star.

Kamiso Mon 13-Dec-21 22:44:04

The message seems to have got through in our area at least. Queue of people waiting for their vaccine.

Luckygirl3 Mon 13-Dec-21 22:40:19

BJ can look a mess and babble on as much as he likes - all I ask from him is honesty and integrity - he fails on both counts.

Starmer did well tonight - there was absolutely no political point-scoring - good for him.

lemongrove Mon 13-Dec-21 22:38:13

EV that means that Starmer is doing something right.tchgrin

Callistemon I have an unruly blonde mop of hair, so can sympathise.
