Hopefully some leadership on display.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 23:02:22

Thank you. He was more DH's friend although he and I used to go to art class together. A lovely Welshman.

Sweetpeasue Tue 14-Dec-21 22:59:10

Oh I'm so sorry. I didnt realise. Sincerely hope your friend will feel some comfort with either of these meaningful flags. So sorry fot your loss.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 22:48:12

Thank you, Sweetpeasue, X post.
It will either be the Welsh flag or the Ensign.

Calistemon Tue 14-Dec-21 22:46:26

I don't think she meant a Union flag.

Sweetpeasue Tue 14-Dec-21 22:46:14

The Union Jack flag was draped over my dad's coffin by The British Legion. I'll never forget it, felt so respectful, he was in WW2.
Hope you can manage this Calistemon?

EllanVannin Tue 14-Dec-21 22:37:11

I suppose if you own big flags your dead body can rolled in it

A friend of ours has died today and his widow has just phoned and asked if we can obtain a flag for his coffin.

I'm sorry about your friend flowers

Alegrias1 is correct Elegran, the English covid rules do not apply in Wales or Northern Ireland either, we have our own.
We may not need them, but I don’t mind flags being on display as long as they are the right flags for the audience being addressed.

MayBee70 Tue 14-Dec-21 21:41:32

Methinks the divide and rule strategy is going swimmingly….

Alegrias1 Tue 14-Dec-21 20:59:11

Why do we need the flags on display at all? We don't need the flags in this situation.

I believe the measures announced by Johnson do not apply anywhere other than England.

Elegran Tue 14-Dec-21 20:50:58

When you say " regulations that only affect England." do those regulations apply to Wales and NI too? If so, which flags would be appropriate?

Alegrias1 Tue 14-Dec-21 20:03:26

Sheldon and Amy can have all the fun with all the flags. It is how it should be

?

Casdon Tue 14-Dec-21 20:02:52

No, let’s not get rid of flags, I love ours. Maybe Boris should only use the English flag though when he’s talking about coronavirus regulations that only affect England.

Urmstongran Tue 14-Dec-21 20:00:48

Yes on tv. But yesterday she pre-emptied Boris by saying she & Drakeford wanted certain restrictions put in place and ‘hoped Boris Johnson’ would join them.

Casdon Tue 14-Dec-21 19:58:53

? Urmstongran. She was addressing Scotland. Why would she use the Union Jack?

Alegrias1 Tue 14-Dec-21 19:58:23

I don't think Nicola having the saltire is a good thing either. I don't think any of them need flags. We know where we live. And why would Nicola have the union flag on display?

Get rid of all the flags.

And yes, more restrictions announced today. I was with 3 friends from different households when the measures were announced. Just as well we did it today because is not advised from tomorrow smile

JaneJudge Tue 14-Dec-21 19:53:58

I thought Nicola Sturgeon released further guidelines today?

Urmstongran Tue 14-Dec-21 19:49:43

Alegrias1

Actually that's a good point. The vast majority of what Johnson said referred to England only, but he had the Union Flag on display.

Difficult for Boris.
He’s giving out about Omicron and the rules in England because Nicola Sturgeon had already spoken about her proposals for Scotland. As a devolved Parliament. But can you imagine the outcry if he had the flag of St George on the podium next to him?

I noticed tonight Nicola Sturgeon just had the Saltire next to her. No Union flag in sight. She doesn’t even pretend.

Urmstongran Tue 14-Dec-21 19:45:21

Actually on thinking about it further I do recall some of the posters who voted Remain (on GN) called the use of the Union Flag in the background ‘jingoistic’. Times and opinions change it seems.
