Well done the Queen.

Most years, the Queen invites her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to join her at Buckingham Palace for a festive party.

But a Buckingham Palace source confirmed she had called off the royal gathering, because it could put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk.

It must be so dull doing the same thing every year!

BlueBelle Sat 18-Dec-21 07:23:57

She’s a very frail looking little old lady now and probably hasn’t the umph for holding a big family gathering after losing her husband and being ill herself ..but I guess it looks good to say she’s leading the way ??

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 18-Dec-21 08:08:37

Sadly I think this will be HMQ’s last Christmas. She is looking extremely frail. I do hope Charles doesn’t call himself George VII, which he has threatened to do, that would be silly.

Anniebach Sat 18-Dec-21 08:11:03

Why is it a threat ?

Alegrias1 Sat 18-Dec-21 08:14:44

Didn't it used to be treasonable to discuss the death of the monarch? I think it's still unbelievably bad taste to do so, about anybody.

And this from a repubican. Maybe it's because I'm a republican. ?

Aveline Sat 18-Dec-21 09:48:18

Not just saying she's leading the way, she actually is leading the way!
I suspect she'll be around for a long time to come.

Can’t recall any coverage of these family pre Christmas lunches
in the past, yet the cancellation this year is leaked to the press.

Coincidence ? Parties at No.10

maddyone Sat 18-Dec-21 10:21:45

In fairness Annie, I have seen cover of the annual Christmas lunch before. It’s usually held at Buckingham Palace and I’ve seen pictures of the royal family arriving by car. I believe this lunch is for all the family members, including those of the extended family who are not invited to Sandringham.

Anniebach Sat 18-Dec-21 10:53:01

Yes maddy but that’s the press , same as family visiting Balmoral, we know whose there because the cameras are hovering, we never hear from the palace about private family gatherings yet the cancellation of this years family gathering was , it seems, from the palace.

I really do think it was done so to lead by example.

Jaberwok Sat 18-Dec-21 14:39:10

Pre Xmas gathering is now at Windsor. It used to be B.P when it was the monarchs home, but since HM now resides at Windsor that's where this event is now held. Sandringham for Christmas, always. As has been said, George V1th died at Sandringham on Feb 6th 1952. (He was born there too at York Cottage in December 1895.) I remember it quite well as I was nine at the time and we were called in from lunchtime break to be told that the King had died and how sad everyone was.

BlueBelle Sat 18-Dec-21 14:56:35

What’s wrong with Charles being George V11 ?I don’t really understand that comment if that’s what he wants
Wont he automatically be Charles 111 anyway or do they choose whatever they want plucked out the sky

MayBeMaw Sat 18-Dec-21 15:03:36

It's this pre-Christmas gathering which used to be for the extended family- Kents , Gloucesters, cousins, younger Royals and spouses , Princess Alexandra etc which has been cancelled.

Josianne Sat 18-Dec-21 15:05:51

Yes, * MaybeMaw*, where Princess Michael of Kent wore that brooch.
All the hangers on!

Calendargirl Sat 18-Dec-21 16:34:17

Oh yes, the Blackamoor brooch which was apparently a snub to Meghan.

Probably they’ve all got one now!

(Joke).

Andrew remains a Vice Admiral in the Navy and holds a number of honorary military titles. His conduct would surely have seen any other officer removed by now.

"Vice” Admiral? The irony! ?

Anniebach Sat 25-Dec-21 12:37:00

Andrew has not been found guilty of any crime, some can’t accept British law, innocent until proven guilty.

Jaberwok Sat 25-Dec-21 12:46:59

The new monarch can decide which of his/ her names they wish to adopt. Queen Victoria's first name was Alexandrina, but she chose her second name on her accession. Edward V11th did the same, his first name was Albert, Edward V111th first name was David , George V1th first name was also Albert, so if Charles wants to use one of his other names, he's at liberty to do so.

I think she looks bloody amazing for her age. I don't think she looks at all frail

Jaberwok Sat 25-Dec-21 13:15:26

I agree, I don't think she looks frail! I think she looks marvellous . Most of the time she doesn't even use a stick, never mind a frame. Her voice is strong for a lady of her years and her intellect sound. Life in this lady yet!

Anniebach Sat 25-Dec-21 13:19:57

I agree, she does look bloody amazing, and nearly 70 years of
meeting and greeting , amazing woman

Grany Sat 25-Dec-21 13:59:36

Anyone would look amazing if they had servants everything done for them palaces castles grand houses acres of land, dressers, various transportations, the best food prepared by the best chefs loads of public money to spend daily, travel.

A neighbour who recently moved to live near to her family in
North of England is age 96, was a nurse in a children’s hospital until retirement , then worked for the volunteer bureau until this autumn , last Christmas age 95 cooked and delivered lunch
to several disabled people, was a devout Quaker, and looked fantastic for her age. Never an unkind comment about anyone,
could this be the same reason the Queen looks amazing, no hatred in their hearts

Well said, and a happy Christmas to you.

JaneJudge Sat 25-Dec-21 15:10:58

Anniebach, I don't suppose she drank or smoked if she was a Quaker?

My Grandparents were the same age as the Queen and Duke, they didn't fair as well but one had been to War and had been shot. They both worked a hard manual job but even though I am not keen on the Royal family you can hardly say the Queen has not worked!
