It isn’t obligatory ( even for Scots) to relish the writings of Burns Alegrias ?

Everyone knows you are a separatist Republican and I realise now that mostly posters ignore your posts but it's hypocritical of you to then criticise others who may post an adverse opinion about eg Harry and Meghan or Sturgeon.

It leaves you no room for manoeuvre whatsoever.
People in glass houses etc.

I just knew there would be some Scottish home spun ‘wisdom’ dispensed at some stage on here.?It was just a case of which Scottish poster out of two would do the dispensing.

The Queen’s Christmas message hit the right note I thought, and she looks really good for her age, and seems sharp mentally.

Aye, you should write to the National Library of Scotland with your excellent assessment of Burns Lemongrove. That's what they've been missing all these years.

Anyway, there's plenty outdoing you for anti-Scottish sentiment on here today. You're late to the party.

The Queen’s speech topped the TV ratings for Christmas Day. Strictly came next.

Jaberwok and Annie...you are both very knowledgable on this subject.smile

A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's aboon his might,
Guid faith he mauna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities, an' a' that,
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.

Jaberwok Sun 26-Dec-21 16:44:46

The husband of the Queen is never titled King. There has been one exception though in 1688-89 when William and Mary became King and Queen after the expelling of James 11nd./V11th. Mary was Queen in her own right, but William of Orange was not prepared to be out ranked by her in Britain when he out ranked her in the Netherlands. The wife of a King however has the title of Queen, hence Queen Charlotte, (George 111rd) Queen Adelaide (William 1Vth) Queen Alexandra (Edward V11th) Queen Mary, ( George Vth) and Queen Elizabeth (GeorgeV1th). Camilla may or may not take the title of Queen, Catherine almost certainly will. Prince Albert was very anxious to be King alongside Victoria, a la Dutch William, but Victoria would only grant him Prince Consort, a title Prince Phillip refused.

I can't identify 3 bad tempered posters.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 16:20:53

Yes I would nadateturbe I would feel very guilty having a holiday home too.

nadateturbe Sun 26-Dec-21 16:17:16

Thank you Anniebach. The remark about being subject wasn't directed at you.

Yes we don't know what life is like for others. But we do know when we are fortunate compared to others. I certainly would feel very guilty if I had £1m in the bank and people were homeless or in any kind of need. I think you would too.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 16:13:54

Why not granymp’s are called the honourable!

Mollygo Sun 26-Dec-21 16:12:21

Yes Lemsip. Sadly.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 16:10:26

sexism FarNorth

Grany Sun 26-Dec-21 16:06:52

King queen princess prince why do we put up with this nonsense hmm

lemsip Sun 26-Dec-21 16:04:22

oh dear, the same 2 0r 3 bad tempered people on here aswell and the D pf C playing the piano thread.....

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:56:52

Because she was a Queen consort not a Queen

The media refer to Diana as Princess Diana, she wasn’t a princess, if William wasn’t given title Duke of Cambridge when
they married Kate would be princess William

Mr & Mrs

wicklowwinnie Sun 26-Dec-21 15:52:22

If Kate cannot be Queen when William becomes King,
how is it we had King George the sixth and his wife was known as Queen Elizabeth?

Galaxy Sun 26-Dec-21 15:47:24

I am afraid I dont view life like that Annie. They would chuck me out of the MN feminist section for a startgrin

FarNorth Sun 26-Dec-21 15:45:22

Is that actually your view Anniebach or are you just stating
the current situation which is based on sexism?

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 15:42:33

Crikey.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:40:50

Galaxy think about it, a king is a man , a Queen a woman,
excluding drag queens,

Therefore a king, man, is higher than a Queen woman,

Queen consort acceptable, king consort unacceptable.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:36:10

Sorry nadateturbe I meant we can only think what life is like
for the wealthy, the comfortable off who can afford two homes,
the homeless, but we don’t know unless we live those lives.

I have never, ever referred to ‘subjects’ , dislike the word.

Galaxy Sun 26-Dec-21 15:35:30

That would certainly be a surprise. So was Prince Philip King consort.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 15:31:02

Camilla and Kate can be Queen consort, not Queen, the only possible future Queen is Charlotte

Doubt Camilla will get pregnant now
