I hope the whole system is dismantled long before William gets to the throne never mind George .Its a medieval concept not fit for the 21st century as we can clearly see .IF these people had to actually work for a living instead of the shaking hands and smiling...oh and cutting ribbons etc they would no doubt sink out of trace fast.

Do you say that about ALL Constitutional Monarchies, or is it the the British one you have a definite bias against.

Anniebach

He has been found guilty on this forum not in a court of law.

But he is guilty of fraternising with a paedophile and a trafficker, for many years.

His reputation is shot regardless of the outcome of this civil case.

Such a fool particularly after 20 years of military service and with all his advantages in life.

Granniesunite Fri 14-Jan-22 10:40:03

The Royal family have taken steps to protect themselves and the monarchy. I think that’s a big hint that they know more than is public knowledge. Huge hint.

henetha Fri 14-Jan-22 10:38:45

Yes, Anniebach, that was what I was trying to say. We are all assuming he is guilty, and he might be, but it has not been proven at all.

On a different tack, when Andrew and Fergie bought the swiss chalet it was reported they bought it together, I hope she will now be looking for a share back, particularly as they are no longer married. Why should she fund his court case?

maddyone Fri 14-Jan-22 10:27:32

Andrew’s still owns four other titles which were not removed. Why? He’s still a Knight of the Garter for goodness sake. It’s just being discussed on the Jeremy Vine show now.

Anniebach

William did not change the line of succession.

Josiesnn George may be a sensitive little boy like his paternal
Grandfather, if he is like Charles he will be a good king.

Thank you Anniebach for that reminder. Sensitivity is a good thing.

I'm not sure Anniebach, there is just something in George's demeanour that occasionally troubles me, whereas his sister is more than capable of doing the job already!! I hope he/she will be allowed to be their own person, monarch or not. Who knows?

There is something of 'The Queen' about Charlotte - she looks so sensible!

Anniebach Fri 14-Jan-22 10:22:09

We do have a Monarch and her immediate family working royals now.

Josieann George is just a little boy for goodness sake! What an unpleasant comment to make about a 9 year old child.
I’m horrified than you feel it necessary.

And this is just a Friday morning conversation fgs! I only said it troubled ME not the whole readership of GN and their uncles.
You have my permission to ask GN to remove it.

I think less well of the Queen for the way in which she has allowed this to be handled.

Indeed. She should have acted sooner. I hope once Prince Charles and later Prince William are crowned that all these honorary titles are abolished. All the Dukedoms and Duchesses, all the Knights of the Garter. All should be abolished. We should just have the bare minimum, the king or queen, and their immediate family. Honours should be earned, not given as a gift by the monarch.

henetha Fri 14-Jan-22 10:17:59

I'm not taking any sides here, but I think we should remember that Prince Andrew has not been found guilty of anything yet.
Aren't we meant to be innocent until proved guilty?
Just saying.

If Andrew had been the Queen's first born would he be our next King?

Yes.

Wonder how that would have gone with the Royalists?

Alegrias1 Fri 14-Jan-22 10:14:36

Off with her head!!!!

Whether Andrew is rude, arrogant, overbearing and entitled, it doesn't have any bearing on whether or not he is innocent.

As far as I am aware there have been no other accusations of inappropriate sexual misconduct throughout his life.

He was known a 'Randy Andy' long before these allegations ever saw the light of day, which must surely say something?
And hopefully by the time we have a King George or even a William, the Royal Family will have been trimmed back to the very minimum - there's absolutely no need for all those hangers-on with titles who do absolutely nothing in return.

Anniebach Fri 14-Jan-22 10:01:46

I think that by the time it comes to George the standing of the Royal Family will have been much reduced. At the moment it is held in esteem by our generation because the Queen is the only monarch we know and she has upheld traditions familiar to us. I admired William in having his daughter’s place in the line of succession changed to make her equal to her brothers. There will be further changes I expect so George might well find that he can decide that he doesn’t want to be king after all.

winterwhite Fri 14-Jan-22 09:52:09

Hard hat day and hiding behind the sofa for me.

I'm think less well of the queen for the way in which she has allowed this to be handled. Prince A couldn't retain his military roles, certainly, but he should have been allowed to resign from them himself, not 'be stripped of them', and she could have ensured that this was how it was put.

His behaviour was seedy and sordid and he has fallen into the hands of a gold-digger. The terminology of assault is legally correct we are told, but its use in in general conversation in the case of an older teenager with an apparently complicit father puts a gloss on it that seems excessive, as does 'trafficked'. I gather that one of the cited occasions was in London, where 17 is not under age.

Prince A has never been popular and probably not deserved to be. But it is possible to stand by the accuser while not condoning the crime, and I wish the queen had not allowed herself to be drawn into it, and I wish his daughters had spoken up for his better qualities. By all accounts he has been a good father.
