According to the Daily Telegraph there were 2 parties held at No. 10 Downing Street the night before Prince Philip's socially distanced funeral.

This thread by the Telegraph's political editor:

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

As someone said it’s

“Operation save the little Eton bully”

Murdoch is no longer associated with Sky News UK, Dinahmo. Their reporting is not particularly biased to the Right.

Sky News is owned by Comcast as of November 2018 and is funded through advertising. Rupert Murdoch is no longer affiliated with Sky News UK

Independent reporting

“Operation save big dog”

“Johnson draws up plan for officials to quit over partygate so he can keep his job”

What a charmer.

The number of daily reported deaths due to Covid are now similar to Feb 2021, and in my own county the rates are the highest ever reported. Not quite out of the woods yet CarlyD7.

I appreciate that the number of deaths is an emotive subject, but I think its important to get the numbers right.

Just now, an average of about 210 people are dying every day.

A year ago, on January 14th 2021, 1,227 people died. We are in a much, much better position now that we were a year ago.

Well, given that most of us have been vaccinated you would hope that is the case. However I’ve had two messages today, one warning me that many local buses aren’t running due to staff sickness and another from the police asking people not to ask to see their GP unless it’s absolutely necessary because the surgeries are also suffering from staff shortages.

Bossyrossy Fri 14-Jan-22 19:52:25

Joelsnan, it is Boris who sets the tone of how the government is run, including how No 10 staff behave. They obviously thought that to party in the garden wouldn’t be frowned on by the PM, indeed he joined in, albeit for 25 minutes. BJ should resign. In my opinion he is just an Eton educated Trump and the sooner he goes the better.

I get quite depressed when people say of politics, There is more to life than this.

There's not. It's politics than governs how you live your life, how much money you have to spend, how you'll spend your old age, how your DGC will be educated... everything.

There's really not more to life than politics. sad

I honestly think that people who claim that there is more to life than politics don't deserve a vote.

growstuff Fri 14-Jan-22 19:46:06

It's really not conceivable that Johnson didn't realise that these gatherings (whatever they were) were happening. By his own admission, he attended at least one of them. Why was Carrie there, if they were work meetings? Why was he "wandering around" when it would have been far safer for him to have kept his distance from everybody? Why did he say he should have told people to go inside?

He was ultimately responsible for writing the rules and he should have had some understanding of the principles behind them. He must have known that they would cause hardship to many and should have been prepared to put up with some hardship himself.

No, he sounds like he's desperately trying to find excuses. He's like a squirming child who's been found out and making up ridiculous excuses - and blaming others.

How about the people who were fined appeal against their fines and Johnson volunteers to be an expert witness for those who were fined?

Joelsnan Fri 14-Jan-22 19:38:07

The majority of these ‘parties’ were not attended by BJ. They were solely Civil Servants working at No.10/11.
The political inclinations of these employees could well mean that they are maliciously conspiring to disrupting democratic governance.
Rather than hanging BJ out to dry the Head of the Cabinet office should be held responsible for his staff.
According to the Cummins testimony BJ was not initially at the table in the published image. He wandered out much later followed by Carrie. They remained for around 25 mins.
BJ was at Chequers when the leaving parties took place. So realistically it is the Head of the Cabinet office that should be being hounded.

Sillynanny Apart from two papers, the Guardian and Mirror the rest of the British national press is Tory. I don’t have Sky but almost certainly they are right wing too. As has been said Murdoch was always close with Boris Johnson.
As for BBC because of the way they are funded they must be impartial.
The running down of the government by all is because their behaviour has warranted it. Far too much to ignore.

Moogalmum Fri 14-Jan-22 19:03:03

I am not a Consevative voter, but feel sure that Teresa May or John Major would not have behaved in this way

Dinahmo Fri 14-Jan-22 18:57:52

I heard someone talking on the radio about Johnson's time at the Spectator. Apparently there were open wine bottles on all the desks, cocaine everywhere and the workers sh--ging all over the place. Possibly a slight exaggeration!

Dinahmo I do not agree that majority of the press are Tory supporters! Try listening to anything coming from BBC & Sky. They continually run down the government & it would be no different who was in power! I have a friend who’s husband is wound up all the time by the reports from BBC & Sky. He does hate everything Tory & worships anything Labour! His choice as we all have our own choices but it just gets sad listening to him ranting on all the time about Tory corruption fuelled by a lot of the Media. There is more to life than this is what I am trying to say & we have to get a balance between what is said by different sides with different agendas! New Year New Start please? Lets just wait & see what is next from Cummings that my friends husband will jump on along with many others! I really cannot be bothered with it all now, we have to get over it as cannot change it or do anything about it after all the time passed now! I really think I will leave this thread as I have other things to think of & am fed up with all the misery this is causing!

Murdoch is or was a Johnson supporter so if Sky News has changed its tune then Murdoch must have gone off him.

The corruption is not fueled by the media, it's fueled by politicians who think that they can do what they want. It wasn't the media who set up the VIP channel so that their cronies could be fast tracked to getting contracts for PPE etc.

I for one will not "get over it" and I suspect many like minded people won't either. I/we want everyone to remember all the corruption and lies when the next GE happens.

October 2020- Bas Javid in the Spectator

''One of my jobs is ‘executive lead’ for frontline policing on Covid, trying to work out how to handle this strange and unsettling situation. The difficulty is finding the right balance. We don’t want to alienate the public but we need to uphold the law, and we must find our way without being too distracted by the media — and by critics who say we’re too hard one minute and the next that we’re not enforcing the regulations enough. The truth is that anyone who’s looking for certainty about how the virus will behave, or how we will respond, will be disappointed. But isn’t it better to be careful? Remember: most disaster movies start with the government ignoring a scientist…''

MayBee70 Fri 14-Jan-22 18:35:15

Just read that Sajid Javids brother Bas is Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police. I assume that wouldn’t affect the result of any investigations into the governments activities?

Yesterday I read a report apparently given to the investigation by Cummins Who said he was in the published image.
He categorically denied that it was a party stating that the garden was used as an outdoor office particularly so because of Covid and if security footage was watched for week or so prior to the published image would confirm this.
This, if genuine is quite magnanimous of Cummins considering his previous back stabbing.

I think he is just covering himself, as he's in the photo (the garden one). But if it's an outdoor office gathering (ie they are working in the garden) then why on earth is Carrie there with the baby?

I guess if you're living above the shop as she does, you do sort of traipse round the building and the garden bumping into people!

Absolutely raging!! To be setting rules for the whole country to follow, these brain-dead waste of space people who should be setting examples are intent in doing what they want to do!! I was brought up to lead by example! I would get rid of every one of them, without out their bonuses and perks, learn to live like many of us have to and struggle!! Rant over!!?

You can accuse anyone of anything but you need proof to rest your case.
Here there's lots of proof but they're telling us there's no case.........not even a birkin handbag........well there is but they're actually saying is that they didn't realise even when whacked over the head with it that it was actually a bag at all, they thought it was a banana...........

Mummer Fri 14-Jan-22 17:03:58

Doesn't suprise me one jot! And the pitiful spectacle of his lackies opening their veins on TV in a vain attempt to try and 'save' him? Pathetic they don't even know how they're being screwed over on the altar of over entitlement and greed! Hell chuck anyone's babies on the pyre to save his own bacon that one. "They're all doomed!" If we're lucky.
