According to the Daily Telegraph there were 2 parties held at No. 10 Downing Street the night before Prince Philip's socially distanced funeral.

This thread by the Telegraph's political editor:

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

It's the ultimate symbol of disrespect, for any and everyone.

Calistemon Thu 13-Jan-22 23:49:20

I'm just speechless

It gets worse and worse

Watched Auesuon time tonight. One of the panelist’s said 12 parties are known about so there’s clearly more to come. Drip ? drip ? drip ?

Really feel for Sue Grey whose name is constantly on the radio who has to produce the answer to all this and especially feel for her as she has to present it to her boss first and he just happens to be the current PM.

Dear me, it’s beyond a joke now, not that it was really a joke before! I wonder if Dominic Cummings is behind all these leaks as the papers were insinuating earlier and if so, how many more leaks are still to come. I can’t see Boris remaining PM much longer but unfortunately, there is no one else I rate highly enough for the position. I just hope Michael Gove is not a serious contender!

Question Time typo! Fat digits

The government has no moral authority to continue. They should resign.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Jan-22 07:59:38

Blimey I wonder if they had time for any work.

It really is absolutely astounding, and it would seem that things have got totally out of hand.

We need a lot of brooms to do a lot of sweeping from the prime minister, the government through to the head of the civil servants in no 10.

Aveline Fri 14-Jan-22 08:00:21

I don't understand why all this is coming out now. Presumably whoever leaked it could have leaked it ages ago.

JaneJudge Fri 14-Jan-22 08:01:23

no wonder so many of them caught covid

Curlywhirly Fri 14-Jan-22 08:55:08

I can't believe they had so many parties at number 10! What a great place to work. I worked at our Town Hall and we never got even a sniff of an alcoholic drink or an office party (we did used to have a Christmas party in the 70s, but that was all stopped). I'm surprised they managed to get any work done, they must have had permanent hangovers. And all those social gatherings took place under the noses of the Police. You couldn't make it up.

Boz Fri 14-Jan-22 09:02:26

You only had to look at the scruffy Cumming with his deliberate dressed-down look and the PM with his shirt hanging out and uncombed hair to realise standards in Downing St. had dropped.

Boz Fri 14-Jan-22 09:04:09

Altogether now, "It's my Party and I'll die if I want to"

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 14-Jan-22 09:10:40

So where were all the police officers in Downing Street? The place is usually crawling with them.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Jan-22 09:12:13

I think you are right boz.

It may seem a bit old fashioned, but even where dressing down is the order of the day there are still standards, and I think the head is always the one to set it.

Johnson does not to have any standards about anything. His lying will potentially cause real problems with regard to the number 10 staff. How can you run any department where the head lies continuously, where on earth do you know where you are?

That was my first thought, too. They’re rotten to the core as well as being useless.

Greta Fri 14-Jan-22 09:16:56

We should not be surprised at the latest party revelations. If you choose a corrupt leader you get just that - corruption. And it spreads just like a virus.

annodomini Fri 14-Jan-22 10:21:16

Given that office workers all over the country were (and many still are) working from home, why were all these partying civil servants not doing likewise? These people who were in on the imposition of rules on the rest of us apparently had immunity from prosecution. I wonder how many of them were also immune to Covid.

Kali2 Fri 14-Jan-22 10:30:13

Did anyone watch Question Time last night. The verdict was clear, from public and those on panel. Yes, even Isobel Oakeshott! (sp?). Hart tried and tried to excuse it, sort of, but without any convictions, and he was seriously taken to task by all.

Kim19 Fri 14-Jan-22 11:22:58

I think all leaks are timed with precision and not by accident. I feel they are usually of unkind or even malicious intent

Are you saying we should ignore them and continue to tolerate having a completely worthless individual as our Prime Minister?

Grantanow Fri 14-Jan-22 11:28:10

Disgraceful. Corrupt. Embarrassing. Watching the Secretary of State for Wales trying to defend Boris on QT last night was depressing to say the least. Hapless. Boris has set a climate in No 10 and more widely that we cannot accept in a PM. He has demeaned the role and he must go.

Joelsnan Fri 14-Jan-22 11:37:45

What I find most interesting about this issue is: If these ‘so called’ parties were such an issue, why were they not brought to the public attention at the time. The media were obviously well aware that these events were taking place as there are more leaks in No.10 than a colander.
Could it be that now that BJ has got Brexit through and he has borne the worst of the pandemic whilst ushering in a vaccination development and delivery that is regarded as world leading, he is now considered too socio/liberal and should be replaced by a person that aligns more closely with the Conservative ideology.

jaylucy Fri 14-Jan-22 11:42:52

I would like to see every single one of those party goers to be treated the same as anyone else outside No 10 that have attended gatherings that were at the time illegally held and be fined.
What sort of people are they ?
You would expect that they would be relatively intelligent people with the brains to follow, like the rest of us, the rules that were in place at the time.
A public apology wouldn't go amiss either.
