Australia intends to deport him.

Thoughts?

The Australian government are at match point but it won’t be game, set and match until the plane lifts off with Djokovic on it.

I think there’ll be a let….

It would be so much better for all concerned if he would gracefully acknowledge his mistakes and leave the country of his own accord.

maddyone Fri 14-Jan-22 12:06:03

The judge hearing his case is the same one who overturned the original decision.

Mmmmm, that doesn’t bode well.

Kalu Fri 14-Jan-22 11:33:41

Good for Australia. That will hopefully burst his huge ego bubble. Another one who thinks he is above the rules. ?

rafichagran Fri 14-Jan-22 11:30:20

Good.

His team are intending to lodge an appeal tonight and have requested that the Government lodge theirs by 10pm Saturday. Novax wants the case heard and decided on by Sunday.
Funny how so many cases take months or years to be heard but he can get his in court within hours!

The judge hearing the case is the same one who overturned to original decision.

Franbern I do think the Government looks bad, not because of what they have done but because of the way it has been done.

Wish they had turned him around and sent him packing on day one of his arrival but now I think they're stringing this out to make time for an appeal impossible.

I think so too. Such an arrogant man.

Kali2 Fri 14-Jan-22 10:54:13

He is an amazing player and I have nothing against him. However, this is the right decision. He has deliberately tried to circumvent the rules- and I can well imagine him saying to his administrative team' do what you have to do and we will pretend it was all a mistake and get away with it'.

The OZ Governement is totally right in saying 'rules are rules- for all, irrespective (unlike you know who). It will serve as an example for others.

maddyone Fri 14-Jan-22 10:51:49

I agree with both your posts Gwyneth.

I really hope this will be the case Boz and he does not play. Better still it would be great if Nadal won the Australian Open and overtook him on the number of titles won. Trying not to be mean but can’t help it!!!

Boz Fri 14-Jan-22 10:25:50

As he is due on Court Monday, I don't see how any appeal would work. It was said the Aussie Gov, would leave it to the last minute to foil the usual legal shenanigans from team Novax.

Gwyneth Fri 14-Jan-22 10:21:11

I suspect his appeal will be successful and that this second refusal to give him a visa is just to appease the strong feelings Australians have about him being allowed to enter the country in the first place. This decision is just political. I have absolutely no respect left for Djokovic. He is an arrogant man who thinks he is above the law.

I get fed up with all these 'important' people who are so arrogant that they think they are exempt from rules imposed on the rest of us.

So do I AGAA4. All these examples from this week alone, Djokovic, Prince Andrew, and the shenanigans at number 10.

maddyone Fri 14-Jan-22 10:04:56

I hope if he decides to appeal that his appeal will fail.

Franbern Fri 14-Jan-22 09:57:27

Spice do not think it makes Aussie government look bad. Rather the opposite. They are seen as taking a stand to enforce the rules they have in place against someone who, arrogantly, seems to think that they can be an exception.

Obviously, visa should never have been granted in first place, but probably his legal team worded that application carefully enough to cover the truth.

Do wonder how he will be received when (as he says he intends to do), he comes for Wimbledon later this year. He would fit in very well with UK government with his lies, etc.

Hetty58 Fri 14-Jan-22 09:49:29

It's reassuring to know that the rules apply to everyone - as they should.

Grannybags Fri 14-Jan-22 09:47:15

Good. His legal team are going to appeal though

I feel sorry for the people trying to organise the order of play!

lavendermine Fri 14-Jan-22 09:43:56

Another "do you know who I am" - arrogant man.

This tiredness with people who flout the rules - usually wealthy or politically powerful - is becoming apparent in Society.
A pandemic is very dispiriting with so many people suffering deprivations that anger is felt for those who try to float above it all, using power and position.

JenniferEccles Fri 14-Jan-22 08:41:21

I was so pleased to read this but unfortunately it’s said he could still launch another legal challenge.
Hopefully though that was anticipated, and the timing of the announcement was carefully planned.

Sarnia Fri 14-Jan-22 08:24:55

It's been a bit of a mess all round. Pity the visa was granted in the first place. Countries need to enforce their rules on anyone trying to find a loophole in them, famous or not.

eazybee Fri 14-Jan-22 08:23:03

Good.
