You thought Starmer was on top form? I have not seen one commentator agreeing with you. No Conservative government will ever be any good in your eyes, but at least you make me smile! Starmer is a clever man but he does not have any charisma. While he remains as leader, Labour will find it difficult to break through. Andy Burnham would have more voter appeal surely?

So sad that that people don't vote on merit but on charisma. Boris Johnson was labelled charismatic. Donald Trump, ditto. Look how that ended up.
Until elections stop being Mr(s) Popularity contests then we continue to have eejits in power.

If the PM would ever answer a question directly then the question wouldn't need repeating.
People seem to lose sight of the fact that it's the job of the opposition to question the government, to highlight their failings - of which there are many.

It was a good watch.
1) BJ is a serial liar. He only cares for BJ.
Partygate has to be seen in context of recent lack of morality - flat redecoration in return for? sex with Jennifer Arcuri, never mind more historic indiscretions.
2) Starmer is a seriously competent man and did think on his feet yesterday. Loved “comfort from fact his staff can pack a case” and “if a pint and a takeaway was all operation big dog had to worry about” or similar words. He is not an entertainer and sadly this may hinder him. Just an old fashioned good person.
3) BJ claims the vaccine roll out as his own. Same re NHS despite his mates wanting to privatise. Nauseates me.
4) Corbyn would have been a disaster.
5) The MP who crossed the floor will know his days are numbered. He will not be automatically re-selected to stand again. Not sure I like him but crossing the floor does take courage (or stupidity): He represents the constituents not just those who voted for him, whether conservative or protest voters due to Corbyn / antisemitism.
6) Sue Gray will present a masterly civil service-speak report that doesn’t really reveal anything so BJ is confident he will fight on. However, partygate may be his undoing in the long run. All his boosterish posturing and his unethical behaviour to date has been forgive by those who like to see an all too human character as PM (a bit like Trump) but harder to forgive such poor judgment when we were all suffering under the rules.

I think his days are in all probability numbered.

If the new leader comes in with a new broom and sweeps clean it could lead to the Conservatives winning the next election, is that what you want?

I’ve had discussions with Labour voters on Facebook and the general consensus is that we want him to go even if it costs us the next election. What matters to us is this country, it’s people and it’s standing in the world. Johnson is our best weapon but we still want him gone for the sake of everyone.

A damn site better than the Johnson Gang, who's mates were awarded numerous contracts for stuff they had no experience in either making or delivering.

Locking down too late, leaving borders open, and offloading Covid patients from hospitals to care homes, whilst at the same time ordering PPE that was unfit for use. This PPE was then - maybe still is - stored in rusting containers somewhere in a railway yard in East Anglia.

But oh my, haven't they worked hard.

Yes, but to be fair to David Davis, the Brexiteers never had any kind of plan.

They had no idea what to do to replace the systems the UK economy had relied on for years - he and the Brexiteer army were always going to turn up to the battle armed with a stick and a cheery grin.

The more sinister aspect to the Johnson cabal in power in the UK is that their modus operandi mirrors that of the Mafia. And, I think it was Roberto Santoni who noted that whilst researching their operations, the use of the City of London as the world's foremost money laundering capital was commonplace.

Sad that the UK has come to this, run by incompetent and ignorant bullies who believe the individual is more important than society. And today we have allegations of blackmail.

No. It takes a lot of courage to do what he has done. It isn’t something that anyone does without thinking long and hard about it. A friend of mine, a Tory councillor, left the Conservative Party and joined the LibDems because he could no longer stomach their policies and he suffered a great deal of abuse, which he knew would happen.
Courage? I am absolutely livid about what Christian Wakeford’s done. I was one of the people in Bury South who voted for him, therefore I voted for the Tories, not Labour.

Not many are happy about what he’s done in Bury South I can tell you!

In response to both of you ! He would not have this unless he felt many of his constituents were behind him, many in the so called “red wall” voted on the back of Brexit and for the so called new vision Boris had created, how have both of these fared ?? Not great so far, in my humble opinion! MPs often “cross the floor” it’s not new and it will happen again. You might be “livid” and happy to vote in this party again, many many are not !!

That was my immediate thought as well.
I believe it was said that the seat had been Labour for yonks until the last GE.

The man clearly has no regard whatsoever for the people of Bury who voted Conservative.

Interestingly his defection might have backfired as it’s said that his actions have resulted in Tory MPs rallying round the PM.

He had a 402 majority - not much to crow about.

There is also a relatively large Labour voting Jewish community in the constituency who for reasons obvious fell away from Labour in the last election, but are now returning with Starmers leadership.

This is as much about self survival as anything I think.

Every single expenses claim that's massaged beyond its worth is a theft, or did you not work for a living? The greatest frauds are committed at low level under the radar by smug types who think they've "arrived" when they get to join THE golf club/masons/bridge club etc. And to avoid any scrutiny vote conservative to try and keep the busy bodies out, perish the thought that a level playing field be the order of the day, with the fortunate few actually helping those less able rather than calling them lazy freeloaders . The bigger they are the harder they fall.
