That's made my day! I'm delighted and relieved.
At last, some sense from the government. Roll on 26th Jan.
I’m also highly delighted they are stopping mask wearing in schools.

everyone in my sil care home has caught covid, all have very minor symptoms, she said that she would not even know she has got it, all are triple vaccinated
Hurrah to not wearing a mask. Normal life here I come, protected by my vaccinations
Great! At least I'll be able to avoid you, if I can see you're not wearing a mask.
Germanshepherdsmum Why can't I bear to put a mask on? I don't know - I just can't. It started off as 'don't do facemasks', which morphed into 'won't wear facemasks' which changed again into 'can't do facemasks'. All along, though, I couldn't see how they could possibly stop covid, and I've become even more convinced as time has gone on - perhaps to justify my hatred of them. Does it matter which way round it was?
TwiceAsNice so true. It seems growstuff is being selfish in expecting children to have to protect us oldies - all the education they are missing out on, their mental health, etc. All no matter, so long as I'm all right, jack.

I’m fully vaccinated and caught omicron, I was not too ill but my fitness has definitely suffered. I get tired easily and out of breath which I never did before, So I’ll continue to try and avoid another dose,

You remind me of the woman who came into my DIL’s shop with no mask last year . When offered a disposable one she announced “oh I don’t do Covid””
“Well then I don’t do serving you, sorry” said my DIL.
Of course I am bothered about my grandchildren and all other students as well. When did I say anybodys mother didn’t matter? What I did say is children should not be penalised to protect adults . We are obviously not gong to agree but my opinion matters just as much as yours

Crikey! What a snowflake! Have you thought of some sort of counselling? It seems you are aware that your dislike of masks is irrational, so that's a start.
No, TwiceAsNice, I'm not an "I'm alright Jack". It's people like you who are setting a bad example for children. Children in many other countries have no problem wearing masks. The concern for "mental health" is gas lighting.
So they don't work, can you therefore tell me why nurses, drs, dentists etc wear them? The only reason they are being dropped is because it will have to go to the vote and Johnson doesn't want anymore embarrassment. I will still wear mine.
I don’t like masks either and never go anywhere they are mandatory for more than a few minutes
If I was that concerned then I would swap my mask for a FFP2 so it wouldn’t matter what anyone else was doing
growstuff, you seem to be a very fearful person. Thats a shame, it must spoil your quality of life. So much easier to hide behind a mask, than to face your fears
That's very rude karmalady. Is it really necessary on what is supposed to be a friendly supportive thread?
Growstuff again it was not me that said I’m all right Jack. If you cannot post without being unpleasant and aggressive perhaps you shouldn’t post at all.
How do you know how children manage masks in other countries? It is mostly central asian countries who expect this. I’d rather live in a democracy where Im actually allowed an individual opinion instead of being made by the state to do as I’m told
all the education they are missing out on, their mental health, etc. All no matter, so long as I'm all right, jack.
Blimey, where have you been, LilacChaser? Children have been back in school since Autumn 2020. What education do children miss out on if wearing a mask?
karmalady Brilliant!
growstuff It was me who called you 'I'm all right Jack', not TwiceAsNice. And, yes, I'm a facemask snowflake, but not a covid snowflake.
Again, Barmeyoldbat, please ask these healthworkers why so many are off with covid - one can only assume it's because they're facemasks don't work.
Sorry, their.

German shepherd you do whatever you fee you need to do to keep yourself safe. I’ll do whatever I can to make life for granddaughters mentally sound. Children have been penalised to protect people like you and I don’t agree with it
So you think people like Germanshepherdmum don't matter? You don't seem too bothered about your grandchildren either.
Thanks growstuff but obviously I and others like me really don't matter to TwiceAsNice. And there are many with far more precarious health than mine.

How nasty. People don't hide behind masks, they use them to keep themselves and others safe.

Nooooo, is this out of the conspiracy theory handbook? My quality of life is just fine, but thanks for the concern.

Well, you are wrong to make that assumption. Healthcare workers work long shifts but do you not realise they have a life outside work including a normal family life. My daughter is a nurse and had covid about 15 months ago. Her son contracted it during a school outbreak and shared it with his mum. He was incubating it and had already infected her before his symptoms started. She wears PPE at work but doesn’t wear it at home! ?

The parents of young children with whom I'm in contact are more concerned about sending their children into an environment where Covid is rife than causing their children "mental health" problems from wearing a mask. Those who are in the fortunate position of being able to home-school have chosen that option.

I heard on r4 news earlier this morning that face masks are to stay. I am ok with that and despite not finding them comfortable will continue using them. It surely makes sense.
Face masks will no longer be mandatory as restrictions of plan B life next week
But of course face masks can stay if you choose to wear one
When were they ever exactly ‘mandatory’ in the U.K. anyway? Anyone can say they’re exempt - nobody can challenge them - and so many people who do wear them, wear them under their noses or on their chins. I see this every single time I go out, which is often - usually multiple cases, both in shops (including on the staff) and on public transport.
Only today the woman on the till at Sainsbury’s was wearing one under her nose.
We have never been half, or even a quarter as strict, as they are in many other countries.
Thank goodness young primary school children never had to wear face coverings.
I accept masks were probably more important in secondary schools.
Thank goodness that children can now be free to learn about facial expressions and empathy, it has been a long time coming. There are children who don`t learn at home about empathy and about reading faces. Wearing masks has been bad for their mental health, no doubt about it

varian no, they don't
Do you even understand what probability means?
I do know that when our generation went through school, statistics and probability were not part of the school maths curriculum.
First year students at medical school in the 1960s and 1970s had to have a course in basic statistics.
If you are still relying on anecdotal evidence and saying "So and so wore a mask and still got covid" please look at the evidence.
Wearing a mask will not give you 100% protection from being infected, nor will it give you 100% certainty that you will not pass on the virus but, just like vaccination, mask wearing drastically reduces the chances of becoming infected or infecting others.
Was a bit shocked at the lifting of restrictions but glad some normality returning. We will probably return to it again next winter. Enjoy the freedom.
