Wonderful News - No more face masks

I don’t like masks either and never go anywhere they are mandatory for more than a few minutes
If I was that concerned then I would swap my mask for a FFP2 so it wouldn’t matter what anyone else was doing

So they don't work, can you therefore tell me why nurses, drs, dentists etc wear them? The only reason they are being dropped is because it will have to go to the vote and Johnson doesn't want anymore embarrassment. I will still wear mine.

Crikey! What a snowflake! Have you thought of some sort of counselling? It seems you are aware that your dislike of masks is irrational, so that's a start.

No, TwiceAsNice, I'm not an "I'm alright Jack". It's people like you who are setting a bad example for children. Children in many other countries have no problem wearing masks. The concern for "mental health" is gas lighting.

Of course I am bothered about my grandchildren and all other students as well. When did I say anybodys mother didn’t matter? What I did say is children should not be penalised to protect adults . We are obviously not gong to agree but my opinion matters just as much as yours

You remind me of the woman who came into my DIL’s shop with no mask last year . When offered a disposable one she announced “oh I don’t do Covid””
“Well then I don’t do serving you, sorry” said my DIL.

I’m fully vaccinated and caught omicron, I was not too ill but my fitness has definitely suffered. I get tired easily and out of breath which I never did before, So I’ll continue to try and avoid another dose,

I’m also highly delighted they are stopping mask wearing in schools.

I can kind of see where LilacChaser is coming from here. I see some pretty grotty masks that people wear. I’m guilty of it on my face then in my bag then in my pocket and washed so I fully accept I don’t wear it properly and most people don’t. But I respect peoples decision to want to wear one. I will wear one in drs or chemist and busy stores and on crowded public transport where people are close. They are going to stop testing but I will always do a lateral flow before visiting my parents even if I have to buy them. I’m not afraid of Omricon I had covid in 2020 but I understand people are still scared so will try to be respectful of them. I’ll be sensible wearing a mask in places where I feel it’s important.

Petera Yes, I actually thought the government were going to ban us from breathing at one point. Now, that would definitely sort the covid problem out!!

Growstuff they are double jabbed, we are all triple jabbed. Their classrooms have the windows own all day. Life is a risk , children do not get very ill one of them has had Covid anyway so have many of their friends and the teachers are also double/triple jabbed ( if they are not it is not my granddaughters problem) . I worry much more about their mental health than Covid these two years have harmed them and enough is enough.

Replying to comments re masks and spectacles, I used to find that the mask gradually worked down beneath the rim of the glasses and pushing it back up made the ear elastic slip….

BUT, I’ve just recently had cataract surgery and don’t wear glasses outside any more. Oh boy the relief. So I’ve tried masks With and Without as oculists say. No contest. Without every time.

Anyway we now have the new rules and can decide for ourselves.

I presume you lecture in epidemiology given your statement that covid will become more like flu. Some of us are likely to be hospitalised with either, maybe introduced to us by ‘students’.
How would the poor dears have coped with WW2 gas masks?

I could also ask why so many health workers have been off work with covid if their face masks do work?

They didn't necessarily catch the virus in hospital.

It would be interesting to know how many proponents of mask wearing go out and about every day and also wear glasses. I think that makes a big difference.
None of the devices supposed to de-fog glasses work well and the ubiquitous thin blue and white ones don't fit well and don't serve much purpose that I can see.

Masks serve a purpose in crowded places but it would be a pity if they were regarded as some some sort of charm or talisman.

A large number of us as we get older I suspect. I prefer the tin blue ones as the thicker white ones make it more difficult for me to breathe. I pinch the mask around my nose and my glasses sit on top.

When I started smoking my dad tried to get me to stop by showing me a handkerchief which he exhaled through. I don't think much smoke got through but there was a horrible yellow stain which he said would be similar to the effect of smoke on my lungs. It didn't stop me though although I did give up about 8 years later.

We are required to take a sample from throat and nose to test for Covid,
which suggests that is where the virus resides. By covering our mouths and noses at least part of the time we are restricting the opportunity that viruses can enter there.

I am super delighted that my students including my granddaughters will not wear masks in the classrooms after tomorrow. I and many others are supporting young people after the horrendous increase in their poor mental health.

We should be ashamed children have had to wear masks for 6 hours plus a day, how can you learn like that? Adults can choose to wear them for whatever reason, children cannot.

I for one am very glad they are being dropped. I am happy for others to continue but it’s my choice not to if I wish as well.

Covid will become more and more like the flu, we don’t put our lives on hold every year for that thank goodness.

Why on earth should you wish your granddaughters to be in an atmosphere where Covid particles are circulating?

DH and I will be using ours when out and about too.
We’re used to them now and I would not think of going into a cinema or theatre for example, sitting close to others without one.
