So while our government is debating on what constitutes a party, how many parties may have been held a couple of years ago, there's a terrible threat to world peace going on at the edge of Europe. Anybody else noticed?

^The UK is militarily isolated, and not in a position to get militarily involved at the moment, for so many reasons, including financially^.
We are a major financial contributor to NATO, paying in more than France or Germany, who both know that NATO is what keeps them and the rest of Europe safe and has done since it’s inception. As members of NATO we will never be “militarily isolated”. Time to put Chicken Little back in her coop!

Correct... We may be a small island but we are very important to NATO.

^I am not talking about the News- I am talking about the UK as a military force- yes, totally^ isolated

And you're still talking twaddle. I could provide you with a great deal of information about the UK military forces, particularly regarding the RAF, but I'm happy to let you continue to stir yourself up into a maelstrom of excitement, hysteria and more foretellings of imminent doom for the UK. I know you enjoy that. Enjoy.

Thank you for writing the above post, saved me the trouble.
I would only change one thing: the word twaddle for bollocks

Jamie Shea is a former NATO official

And quite the maverick celebrity as far as I remember.

Ruling the waves is long gone

Who said anything about ruling the waves?

The UK is militarily isolated, and not in a position to get militarily involved at the moment, for so many reasons, including financially. Ruling the waves is long gone, and the RAF cannot truly compensate for this without putting all in huge danger.

The position of the UK currently with NATO is not clear, and neither is its position in relation to Europe, post Brexit. Its role and agenda are just not clear.

''The UK can best tackle the challenges of a more dangerous world in alliance with the Europeans and working closely with the EU as well as NATO. Going it alone in a world of big power blocs and rising geo-political rivalries risks a dispersal of resources and energy for little strategic gain. After the years of throwing off its EU shackles and minimising its involvement, there will come a time of reconstruction and a more sober minded appraisal of the UK’s interests and priorities. Public opinion does not stay the same, governments change and political debates can be led for good, as well as bad. The time is not far off when the UK will have mature discussions about Europe. It will not rejoin the EU after all that has happened but it can still have a close relationship with it. After all, we are talking about European Strategic Autonomy and European security and defence rather than just the EU here. So these are issues for all the Europeans working together. The mistake is to think that the objective can be achieved without putting the EU at the centre – and working only around it.

Jamie Shea is a former NATO official and now visiting professor at the University of Exeter as well as President of the Centre for War Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. He is a frequent speaker and panellist on NATO and European security issues. ''

There is only one delusional poster?

Kali2 Fri 21-Jan-22 21:34:32

Anyone who does not see that the situation is hugely dangerous at the moment, and the UK isolated- is seriously delusional. Dangerous indeed.

but perhaps you need to step back and watch with a bit of emotional distance.

gringringrin oh the irony of that!

Kali2 Fri 21-Jan-22 21:32:33

I certainy do not enjoy this- I have all my family in the UK- I don't want them in the firing line. What can the RAF do on its own- but put us all in massive danger. Throw your insults if you wish- but perhaps you need to step back and watch with a bit of emotional distance.

Misinformation is often a question of interpretation. Been doing a lot of reading recently that confirms mine.

As said, we always knew that MAD was just an illusion, until the wrong person, a psychopath (or two, or more) get involved.

^This time, the UK is totally alone and isolated in this^

As disgusted, dismayed and depressed as I am with the government in the UK, to say that we are totally alone and isolated in this is total, utter and complete balderdash. Read CNN, SKY, even the BBC for goodness sake but please, stop spouting utter cobblers.

I am not talking about the News- I am talking about the UK as a military force- yes, totally isolated.

Kali2 Fri 21-Jan-22 21:12:00

As a military family, and aware of MAD and the current situation- I would have thought you would not wish the UK to become involved, standing on their own.

It's a different world now GG13- not armies fighting each other- but robots- nuclear ones too. Russia is in Europe, VERY close.

We always said that MAD would work, only until a mad psychopath or two get involved. A VERY dangerous time indeed.

Like dumpling I noticed RAF planes flying over the Lake District during the last few days of good clear weather - lots of them, and thought 'something's going on somewhere'. Its madness, you'd think we'd learn not to follow the USA into these pointless foreign wars after Iraq, Afganistan et al.

I think it is the media that has been ignoring the Ukrainian situation as they kept on reporting partygate over and over. However, at last the media are reporting on the situation properly. The government have clearly been aware all along because our troops are in Estonia. Poland, and a few in Ukraine.

I think they were reporting this until Partygate got in the way, maddyone.
